Battling injuries at safety, playing WRs there in practice, the #Giants are working out ex-Pro Bowler Donte Whitner on Sunday, source said. Link - ( New Window )
The Giants are inevitably forced to work out Otto the garbage man to play safety before the leaves even turn brown. We had the deepest secondary in the NFL! Poof... gone.
All we really know about Thompson is that it's not Lis Franc, so hopefully he'll be back in a few weeks. Can't blame the S&C program, this is simply shitty luck. Bethe's injury is self inflicted, and Thompson got stepped on.
Whitner was a pretty good safety in SF, I just feel his skill set is redundant with LC already starting.
they would bring him in on Saturday if desperate for Week 4

Agreed. Whitner may not be in lieu of Adams, but since they are so thin, he may be seen as the "next up" if Adams falls prey to the "safety bug".
Seriously, every GD year an entire position is hit by a mortar round. Two ina row for the safeties. If I were Landon Collins I'd start consulting a hoodoo priestess and check NY state law on animal sacrifice.
the seventh pick in the draft the year he came out. He was fast & could cover. I don't know how well he runs now. That's why they are bringing him in. This isn't exactly Craig Dahl. He played in the Pro Bowl a couple of times. If he's spent, his workout will reflect that. Otherwise, I hope they sign him.
Spagnuolo plays complicated coverages that are heavy on disguise. I'd rather a vet off the street than a cull off somebody's PS. They have enough young safeties. Problem being too many are hurt.
They cut like four safeties in the last two cut downs but brought back only one Adams PS. Now this is the point that always concerns me you kept these guys all camp now all of a sudden they are just not good at all, why?
How can someone who knows nothing about your defense be a better fit then a person who went thru an entire camp with your team. If we had guys who were just being changed out weekly fine but if they were there that long what does that say about your talent evaluators or coaches.

Depends on whether or not they were viewed as necessary camp bodies and nothing realistically more or viable candidates for the final 53 (or PS)..
Whitner is more of a SS so it's a square peg situation ala 2015 Safety position.

They should have brought Whitner in for a look 2 weeks ago when they lost M. Thompson and Bennett
Prefer a true FS. Adams may be better fwiw.

There are not enough healthy bodies to fill out rosters. Expecting something of quality is asking a lot

True and no idea what he has left, if anything. But, at this point, if he can even run, I'd rather have savvy than a youthful, inexperienced body..
Critical piece of 49er win against Saints.
