I think Odell Beckham Jr is probably the most talented player I have seen, outside of Lawrence Taylor, in the 55 years I have been a Giants' fan. Matter of fact, I don't believe it is even close.
That being said, there is a huge difference between Beckham and Taylor and the impact they had on their teams. Taylor's impact was immediate as well as long term. He turned the Giants around immediately and made them a feared defence. In Beckham's first two years, we have finished 6-10 and that is with a Super Bowl MVP quarterback throwing the ball to him. I believe that reflects more the impact of a first line defensive player as opposed to a first line wide receiver. Still, we can finish 6-10 without OBJ, if things continue as they are. I am 50/50 on his recent outbursts but it has to be pointed out that his play has not been that great since the Carolina game last year and he has been dropping passes...as someone pointed out here this week...he always seems to be trying for the highlight reel one handed catch instead of using two hands and focusing on just catching the ball.
That said, I want OBJ on the Giants...I believe firmly that properly focused he is a sure fire Hall of Fame player. But he has to mature quickly, in an emotional sense, or else he is of no use to the Giants and only a serious distraction. Again, I do not support all of what has happened recently. I think the unsportsmanlike rule is completely stupid and a knee jerk reaction from the NFL. I also believe the officials are completely overreacting to player behaviour on the field. As Bill Polian said: this is not high school football!
Still, Beckham's antics are me-first and selfish. He has to get back to being the player we saw in 2014. I've heard and read some things about the people he is hanging out with and one wonders if those who are whispering in his ear now are giving him the best advice. Frankly, if things get worse then I believe it is time for the Giants to consider moving him out of town...preferably for a top line defender or significant draft picks or whatever. Like I said, we can finish 6-10 without him.
I also hear he is really a good guy and a good teammate but he has to translate that to the field. I sincerely hope he does. If he wasn't a target before, he will be now. Every team will try to upset him and get him off his game.
In conclusion, let's remember something...he has yet to score a TD this year, he has dropped passes, he has been fined numerous times and he has put the focus on himself as opposed to his team. Whether he agrees with that or not, that is the perception and as we all know perception is often reality.
To me, this is a turning point in our season...one way or the other. Obviously, I hope it is the right way.
but Beckham can stop it by just shutting up, playing his best game, stop seeking contact after the whistle and walking away at the end of every play. he's in full control of the situation.
I want some additional thoughts--screw this thread.
but if he was not frustrated and not pissed off and showed no emotion, fans would be bitching about that, they would say he doesnt care...

Being pissed off and showing emotion is different from stomping around on the sideline, taking your frustrations out on a kicking net, and taking your frustrations out on other players during the game.
Lets not act like his behavior is typical. Its not. He needs to chill out.

Its fairly easy to distinguish the difference between Tom Brady's behavior and Odell Beckhams.

people are bitching that beckham is frustrated about getting the ball more because he feels he can help the team win..

how many unsportsmanlike penalties does he have this year?

Who cares? Are you trying to gauge his behavior according to some statistic?
oh he threw a temper tantrum, who gives a shit, if the cameras were not on him 24/7 you would not even know about it...
None of BBI has, plenty of media folks and pundits are turning their backs on him already though, and it started last season with the Norman stuff.

Oh, ok. So when Brady throws his helmet, screams and yells into the face of players - he's what...just a normal guy? Beckham has NEVER gotten into it with a player.

Well guess what? The cameras are on him 24/7 and the whole world knows about it. So he needs to learn to adjust to being under a microscope and act accordingly - like 90% of the other players in his sport do.
if the camera showed him just sitting on the bench and looked like he didnt care every fan here who is ripping him, would be ripping him for not caring...
everyone always says how they hate players who are happy and smiling after a losz, now you have a player that is pissed off after a loss and is showing how frusrtrated he is with the losing and you hate him for it

that is such bullshit, basically he has to become a robot so the media and fans dont blow it out of proportion and you wonder why players do not want to play in new york
but lets ignore that and say eli called out beckham
Uhhh that horse is clearly speaking so its not dead. Keep beating it!!!
But Ill come here and say Beckham was the man this game (just so BigBlueShock can see that I cheer for OBJ when he dominates.)

Who was that launching himself headfirst into Norman? An imposter?

The crews that cover the games are pretty clearly instructed to keep cameras on him at all times and try to catch any hint of this stuff.. it sucks. Then as soon as he gives them something, they replay it 50 times in super slow mo before the next 5 commercial breaks.
He needs to keep his cool but it would be nice if FOX/ESPN/etc could just worry about covering the actual game.
Launch their helmet into an opponent
Rack up personal fouls
Punch a kickers net
and have the word "distraction" included in a sentence by both the HC and QB . . .
. . . isn't passionate.
ok let me ask you this if he is jumping around on the sideline and trying to get his teammates going and hr is frustrated because the team is not playing well, you going to rip him?
let me ask you where is the line?

how many personal foul penalties does beckham have in his career?
where did eli call beckham a distraction? please i would love to see that quote

How did you miss this? It's been everywhere
"[Beckham] needs to control his emotions better and become less of a distraction to himself and to his teammates," McAdoo said Monday on a conference call with reporters. "It's our job to help him with that process and maturing."

He has gotten 6 fifteen yard penalties.
2 - taunting
3 - unnecessary roughness
1 - unsportsmanlike conduct.
the other 2 taunting are from the rams game his rookie year, where he was getting head hunted by the rams because he was torching them...
3 unsportsmanlike were all in one game and we all can agree he went apeshit that game

thats mcadoo, where is eli which i asked for
Exactly, learn to DRAW the penalty, not commit one.

One was from the Titans game his rookie year. However, what is not included is the fines he got for making personal fouls plays as well. Buffalo last year. Saints this year.

He said on WFAN when Francesa asked if he was a distraction. Eli said "it can be a distraction".
Sounds to me like you endorse all this BS? Kinda surprising. Maybe the entire sideline can start crying, launching themselves into others helmets, etc. Any OBj antic can be followed up by more than just Richburg defending him. The whole sidelines and field be in chaos, i mean passion.
funny his teammates are coming out and defending him including eli yesterday but no mention of that

ahh your right forgot about that one...
i didnt bring up fines because he specifically asked for persobal fouls that costed his team yards...

I can't slower so I'll just repeat
Maybe the entire sideline (meaning the whole team can follow the passionate OBJ's lead and) can start crying, launching themselves into others helmets, etc. Any OBj antic can be followed up by more than just Richburg defending him. The whole sidelines and field can be in chaos, i mean passion
If you can't read it again, not sure what to tell you.
The one thing I worry about is the OPI's. He does get away with a lot, speficlally shots to the head. AGain, its probably frustration, but he needs to be careful of them as well.

first off richbrug was defending shepard not beckham get that right and he did not get a penalty for the hit he got a penalty for the bullshit taunt...
secondly having 1 guy on the sideline screaming and yelling is not going to cause the entire team to start doing the same thing...
maybe you should start listening to former players and not espn analysts who have their own agenda

i agree with this, i think in that final series against washington he came onto the field to amped up and tried to make a crushing block and it was to early...
the vaccaro one is the one that worries me because i didnt see what preceded it and i cant tell what caused it, it seemed like everything else that went on that game was just your normal hand fighting
