CB Coty Sensabaugh

October 11, 2016

Q: Have you talked to Jackrabbit yet? You were kind of replacing him in L.A.?

A: No, I haven’t. I remember I’ve seen him out there, but I haven’t talked to him. When I signed, Trumaine (Johnson) from L.A. was ironically the first one to hit me up. Crazy how I’ll get to know both of those guys this year. We all came in together. Crazy situation.

Q: What did they tell you? What is your role here?

A: Just come in and compete. Pick up the defense and we’ll see where that lands me.

Q: Did you play mostly slot or outside?

A: My first three years in the League, I was mostly inside. My last year in Tennessee, I was mostly outside. This year with the Rams D, in games that I played, I was outside.

Q: What happened in L.A.?

A: Too much to explain. I don’t even know their side technically. You would have to ask those guys.

Q: Is it fair to say that you were surprised?

A: Definitely was surprised. The week leading up to it, me and my agent were discussing that it could be a possibility. It was my first time ever being cut so it’s a new experience. Everything happens for a reason. The Giants were ironically the first team to call me during free agency. They were signing Janoris (Jenkins) so I was like, ‘That doesn’t leave much room for me.’ Ironically, I ended up being here. Crazy.

Q: What’s the difference between playing in New York and L.A.?

A: I didn’t get to experience L.A. that long. I was only there for four games. It was exciting. The team was back. I don’t know what New York is like. I’m sure I’ll get to experience it this weekend and the weeks to come. I’ll get back to you on that.

Q: Do you feel like you’ll be able to get up to speed and help out on defense this Sunday?

A: Absolutely. That’s the goal. We’ll see what happens.

Q: Have you ever had to cram a playbook or a scheme?

A: I’ve never been in a situation like this. Going into my fifth year, I’ve been in a lot of different defenses. In Tennessee, I played for three head coaches and three different coordinators. This past season with the Rams, I was in another defense. It’s just about learning the terminology and meshing with the guys. Getting in where I fit in.

Q: Did you have any established relationships with any of the players on defense?

A: The only person I knew here was B.J. Goodson. We went to Clemson. Other than that, it’s all new. I have to get in where I fit in. Obviously, the guys here have a rapport. I will try to come in and mesh with the guys, become one of the guys.

Q: What made this the right fit for you?

A: Just a gut feeling.

Q: Was it that they had interest in you before?

A: That definitely played a part. It’s ironic that they were the first team to call me. It’s just something that just happened.

Q: Did you ever think you would be collecting checks from two different teams?

A: Never. I’ve heard of stories of it before, but I was never one of those guys. It’s just crazy the way things work out.

Q: Not the worst thing in the world, right?

A: Definitely not. It’s part of it. It’s a crazy business. I learn more and more every year. This is the first time I’ve ever been cut. Something great will come from it.

Q: What can you bring to the table here?

A: I like to let my play do the talking. I have to learn the scheme, mesh with the guys and get on the field first before I can contribute. Once I get on the field it will all come out.

Q: How much have you played in the slot?

A: My first three years, I was mainly in the slot. My last year in Tennessee they had me doing a little bit of everything. This past year with the Rams I was outside.

Q: What was it like with the Hard Knocks experience this year?

A: I didn’t notice it much. Being a new team in L.A., we always had cameras around. Hard Knocks was just another set of cameras. There was so much going on out there. A new team in the second biggest market beside this one, there was always a lot going on. Always cameras around.
We shall see

He can't hurt I don't suppose.
It's very ironic you would post this

if the HR people like him, I'm glad to root for him. Hope he contributes early and often.
As a Clemson

I'm optimistic about the future of Coty with the Giants. He was well coached at Clemson, was a permanent team captain as a senior, and set a team record for number of defensive snaps.
If he can take charge of the inside, DRC, Eli and Jack Rabbit can handle the rest.
(I'm disappointed that Goodson has not yet shown enough to earn playing time by now. Hopefully they are carefully grooming him for MLB which maybe takes a little more time.)
I hope to see Goodson soon

Sheppard is really playing poorly out there. Makes me wish they would've stuck with Brinkley. It also kinda sucks that Kennard has been pedestrian at best and I hope that Skinner can help us there. I like Robinson and Casillas but again we are undermanned and less than mediocre at LB.

Safety is also a trouble spot yet again. Same goes but double for TE and we have no FB on the roster.

The fact that this offensive line is so devoid of talent year after year; being ignored except for knee jerk reactionary high draft choices and journeyman castoffs; I seriously hope that the Giants decide to clean house in the front office. I am tired of Reese running the personnel dept. like he's in his own self absorbed bubble instead of getting on the same page with the coaches in deciding what kinds of guys are needed to make this team a winner.
Didn't know they reached out to him in the offseason

Anything that would improve over Wade has to be a good idea.
