I thought this was a nice tribute and gesture for the families. Not sure how many people saw it or care to so thought I'd share.
It's a shame the NFL wouldn't allow the Cowboys to do the uniform tribute like they requested. I thought the decal they wanted to add to their uniforms was very positive and not divisive, but I guess the NFL didn't see it that way or probably felt like to start making exceptions to the uniform policy would result in too many exceptions.

The NHL gets it, no idea why the NFL doesn't.
The NHL gets it, no idea why the NFL doesn't.
This should give you an idea: There are currently 10 black players in the NHL and the percentage of blacks who watch hockey is in the single digits; from a pure marketing perspective the risk of alienating any fans by seemingly taking sides on a divisive issue is almost non-existent.
others can do as they wish, but I do feel you miss the point GentleGiant.
Think about it, the NFL allows players to protest and basically call cops criminals and racists but won't allow others in the NFL to pay tribute to police that were ambushed and killed by someone with the same ideology as the players protesting.

Also great job by the Panthers with the Jose Fernandez jerseys.

That's a pretty dense comment. The NFL doesn't push anything it can't monetize. Everyone knows that. Yes the NFL players are majority black, but its money comes from the fanbase that are majority white. Just take a look in the stands of any game. You have seen the number of people who've said a part of the reason that NFL viewership is down is because of Kaepernick and his cause, right? Is that because all of the black players are against it?
By your logic, the NFL would absolutely want to do this, but again, there's no money in it. Which is why they push Breast Cancer Awareness so hard as well as military flyovers and "surprise" visits home from military personnel. They get paid. Save your race comments for Twitter.
The Arm in Arm logo/slogan/decal the Cowboys created and used in the pre-season was meant to show unity between the team (what is the NFL 75% African American?) and the police and their community.
It is a positive message, a role model message IMO, it stood for unity and if you have read anything about Dallas, their police chief and community in general they are kind of a role model city for community relations and race relations (at least from the outside that's how it seems).
I thought the NFL was short-sighted in their decision, but I understood the uniform policy, but they should have worked with the Cowboys and found some way to get a less divisive message like Arm in Arm out there and publicized.
IMO.
And more to the point, to support two police forces that were just devastated by a combined 5 officer deaths. They werent just set upon -- the officers on the scene went into the line of fire after the shooting had started.
Anyone who has a problem with this small tribute is a fool, no matter what gripes you have with police and policing generally.
