Game altering calls. It's so strange the NFL continues to employ him. It's not like they owe him a large sum of money so you'd think they would have parted ways a long time ago to appease the consumer.
despite the fact they directly tried to impact the game. I don't care but that woman official is horrendous. She missed that PI on SS but somehow DRC picks up a penalty while running inside looking back. SMH.
I've seen horse shit but that takes the cake. I kept thinking it was a joke, or the ref meant it was on Wallace or something, absolutely could have cost us a game. Yet nothing will happen to anyone involved.
Wasn't called by the official closest to the play, but by the official in the middle of the field who couldn't possibly have seen DRC's arm b/c it was behind him.

I believe the same official threw the late flag on the Trevin Wade penalty. Which was another chunk of yardage.
the defender with the receiver as to who committed the penalty--that's why you have a head referee in the game to correct obvious mistakes...there was hardly a discussion of the play, and the flag should have been quietly picked up, "there was no foul on the play..." It was astonishing.
The push on Roger Lewis, Jr. in the ez immediately in front of the ref was also bewildering as it clearly impacted Lewis...that should have been called. Same BJ?
The interception on the ball to SS where he and the DB got their legs tangled. I think that's a legit no call. It could have gone the other way, but the re-play (on the spot) did not to my eyes show the DB interfering with SS with his hands, arms, from what I could see.

No the BJ is in the center of the field, behind the play. The side judge was the one standing right there that somehow missed it.

The DB clearly had his arm wrapped around SS. Should've been PI.
A jersey grab early in the play, but it's still bullshit. He made a great play on the ball and had position. Football is tough to watch this year overall. The league is going downhill.

That's what happens when you value PR more than the quality of the game. Women as a whole I'm sure can ref games as well as men, doesn't mean ALL women can.
Ravens entire offense in the 2nd half was pass interference penalties. I'm still a bit in disbelief.
And there really should be ramifications. Nearly hands them that game and a loss there pretty much derails our season. Then that costs some players and coaches their jobs, so shouldn't the refs be held accountable in the same way?
that maybe it's not incompetent refs that the NFL doesn't want to replace, maybe they're trying to control the outcome of games.
Obviously nothing to prove that, except that it's hard to believe the NFL would look the other way while these incompetent part time refs continue to shit the bed with no consequences.
It was right in front of me. The ref had to have had it backwards. I thought we were going to rush the damn field. The stadium was pissed. If nothing else it woke the crowd up.
RE: The call was not for the foul in the end zone...

The ref clearly confused offense and defense. Thought DRC was the receiver. SHOULD have been corrected, but wasn't.

If that's the case, the entire crew should be fired immediately.
but even after time to think about it, it's not a hyperbolic statement to say that the call was bar none one of the worst calls I've ever seen in a college or NFL game (including the replacement refs Seattle/GB game), and DEFINITELY the worst call I've seen affect one of "my" teams.
It was right in front of me. The ref had to have had it backwards. I thought we were going to rush the damn field. The stadium was pissed. If nothing else it woke the crowd up.
Oh man dude, I am with you. I was in 131, so it was on the other side of the field, but I'm talking more about the anger from the stadium.
The first Giants game I went to was against the steelers in 94 when I was 5 years old. I've only missed a handful of games since then (less than 20) - I have never heard a stadium boo a call for the next 5-6 plays. In fact, the new 10 times the ref talked into the mic, even if it was unrelated, the stadium boo'd.
its time to startsuspending or firing officials; the NFL needs to send the message that it is a two way street, and calls like that from officials will not be tolerated.
Triplett said "The defender impeded the receiver from coming back for the ball". Which indicates a few things - all of which should get the guy fired.
1) He didn't confer with the ref enough to understand the call
2) It was for impedment which is why it was placed at the 8 yard line.
3) It was NOT for a grab or an arm bar or the ball would've been placed at the 20 or the 17.
4) He not only allowed the call to stand, he doubled down on stupidity by explaining it in a BS manner.
within games is maddening. On what planet can defenders push like they did on the Lewis play in the end zone ot on the INT when Shepard was tripped, but DRC can get flagged with literally no contact?
It really should be an immediate reprimand for that crew.
Seriously.
I missed most of the game while umpiring a doubleheader today
Driving home, I couldn't get a signal from WFAN, so I listened to the Ravens' broadcast. The announcers initially thought it was offensive pass interference. After the call was made, they admitted that if that call was made on the Ravens defense, they would be flipping out.
is that DRC worked his way into position where he looked like the receiver. If the two players switched where they were on the play and the WR reaches behind him and gets a hold of the DB's jersey for only a split second like that, there is NO way that gets called as offensive PI. So there's no way it should have been called on the DB in this situation.
Most of you guys have already pointed out all the bad/missed calls, but even the challenge during the Ravens interception (the one that was challenged on whether or not 1. It was a clean interception and 2. if the DB should have been down on contact) was bad. It was clear that Shepard's leg made contact with the DB once intercepted the ball, yet they said it was inconclusive. The commentators were laughing because it seemed pretty damn clear that contact was made, therefore making the DB down by contact.
It was just an embarrassment of a game by Triplette and co.
RE: Just watched the end of the Falcons/Seahawks...
i know this has been discussed on here all day but I felt like I was tripping on shrooms watching that DRC penalty. Unbelievably bad. I went to the game and that was right in front of me.
Call was bogus. Out of endzone and wasn't
Celebrating.
You don't know the rules. You need to be on the sideline at your bench area. They have lines drawn out of bounds to indicate where the bench area begins which is between the 30's. Your helmet is not supposed to be taken off until you are in that area.

The entire impedment explanation is bullshit on his part. Since DRC was also looking back to the ball, he has a right to shield the WR from getting into position from making the catch.
The play was almost comically clear, clean, and unobstructed, like you'd see in a football movie where the defense makes a great play.
Just remarkably odd and confounding. I remember thinking if we lose the game at that point I can't be mad at the Giants. I'm not a ref bitcher and I never have been, but I would've blamed them for the loss if we lost that one.
you are the one who doesn't know the rule. It isn't restricted to the bench area - it is only applied to the field of play:
Quote:
REMOVAL OF HELMET
(h) Removal of his helmet by a player in the field of play during a celebration or during a confrontation
with a game official or any other player shall result in a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Huh. Using that explanation of the rule, the player should be able to take off his helmet even if he is still in the endzone, since they clearly distinguish between the field of play and the endzone in their description of the Field:
Quote:
The lines at each end of the field are termed End Lines. Those on each side are termed Sidelines. Goal Lines shall be established in the field 10 yards from and parallel to each end line. The area bounded by goal lines and sidelines is known as the Field of Play.
....
The Field includes the Field of Play and the End Zones.
I was ready for an explanation that he started taking off the helmet before he exited the back of the end zone, but that shouldn't even matter.

Nothing. They'll be out there fucking up another game next week.
That should NEVER happen. At any level.
Triplette, the female ref and that idiot should NEVER EVER ref again.
Exactly, not to mention Perriman had no chance on that play - he completely lost the battle.
Certainly one of the worst
No that was the other corpse, the now retired Bill Leavy. Triplette worked the regular season game with GB that year
That was Bill Leavy, who has since retired.
Triplette did the regular season game that year. He should follow in Leavy's footsteps. NOW!
It's so painful to see defenses neutered. Blame fantasy and the $$ it adds from the casual fan? Who knows. But that was textbook coverage from DRC,
Have to wait till you get to the sideline I believe
They called the penalty because OBJ challenged them to call it.
That BJ that threw that flag should be fired.

Don't confuse me with that narcissistic shit stain Singer.
The penalty was for a supposed arm-bar or something like that earlier in the play around the 11 yard line.
I didn't see interference at the 11 on DRC... but that's the call.
If that's a flag, it can be called on every play.
Shitty day by the refs.
two key issues?
1. shitty officiating
2. neutering the remotest of possibilities for a team to play defense
And there really should be ramifications. Nearly hands them that game and a loss there pretty much derails our season. Then that costs some players and coaches their jobs, so shouldn't the refs be held accountable in the same way?
I nearly lost my voice from screaming so much after that one.

INCOMPLETE!!!

Thank you for posting that photo. I am a Ballard fanboy. He was a lunchpail player and that was one of his best (stolen) moments.
That team was 10-6, not 9-7 and we're lucky they made the post-season and, thankfully, got revenge on Green Bay.
It really should be an immediate reprimand for that crew.
Seriously.
