Sure it was ugly at times but...

steve in ky : 10/16/2016 5:03 pm
This is exactly the type of win that can change a season.

This team overcame a lot and came together to win what one might consider a must game at this point in the season.

The defense came up big time and time again with multiple 3rd down stops and a huge 4th and goal which may have saved the game as much as anything else.

Odell broke out and seemed to shed whatever monkey was on his back this season.

Eli showed that if he is allowed to throw the ball downfield more consistently on drives he resembles the old Eli a lot more than what we have seen to begin the game and also these past few weeks.

A lesser team would not have been able to overcome that horrible PI call and would have folded with an excuse in hand. This team was not to be denied a win today.

Sure there was a lot of ugly today but only good teams usually find a way to win even on days when for much of the game they played poorly.

Maybe this team is beginning to find itself.

Firstly, as you have always known, ANY win is beautiful..

Aesthetically? Look around the league..Oh and the NFC Champs are 1-5..😜
Ten points by the Ravens...
BamaBlue : 10/16/2016 5:07 pm : link
We're gifted with terrible calls from the Tripplett crew. The Giants beat the Ravens handily, they squeaked by the officials.

A win is a win. Am I confident this team has turned a corner? No. The only thing I'll take from that game, other than the win, is maybe they finally realized they have to throw downfield to win. This team isn't outphysicalling anyone. We need big plays to win.

We also need to use Perkins more. Our running backs are terrible.
Nobody's handing the win back

But I certainly don't see too many improvements on the things that have led to losses.

Offense looked nice, but tough to tell against a replacement defensive missing multiple starters.
A lot of players really stepped it up today.

OL kept Eli clean and comfortable--even without a run game, they gave Eli time and he was able to work his way out of a funk.

DL finally made an opposing QB feel some pressure, albeit against a banged up OL. Still a nice improvement.

DBs - this team is just much better with DRC in the game. Collins, Jenkins are playing like pro bowlers as well. Let's hope Apple and Thompson can get back on the field soon.

Casillas and Roger Lewis deserve some props as well.

On the downside--Donnell, Wade. These guys are just plain bad.

there is no excuse however to be making it difficult on themselves as they are. If they show to show some semblence of cleaning up mistakes (not asking for perfection) then they are onto something..until then
I don't think this team is going anywhere

The weaknesses are enormous and crippling to the areas that aren't weak.
the issue is can we put up points without OBJ going nuts
chris r : 10/16/2016 5:13 pm : link
I don't see much evidence of that over the past few seasons. And until this game, teams have figured out how to keep OBJ from going nuts.

You are right. They played dumb again today. But at least they got aggressive on o today .......this is a 6-8 win team but we can hope so I agree with Steve

Perhaps..Be patient..Only 6 games..This shit is endemic to the league..I'm not going to point to recent SB years as it's not germain other than Eli is still leading us..No team really impresses me even if their record (s) is very good..They all have warts..Let's see where we are late November, early December..And yes, you could ultimately be spot on..
The list of bad plays
CT Charlie : 10/16/2016 5:20 pm : link
outnumbered the good ones by a lot. But OBJ rescued us with the 4th and 1 rub route, and OO was bailed out by the Ravens' clock management.
Change a season perhaps overstating

But there are things to build off of. Offense needs to find more consistent rhythm, esp the run game which is horrid, but some good things to point to. The D made some really nice plays today...Casillas, Jenkins, Collins, Hankins, DRC.

I've said it all season: I think we know what the Giants are as a team in week 9 vs Philadelphia. I want to see them blitz and kill (figuratively) Carson Wentz. If they fold like they did past 2 seasons in prime time, I'll be looking to 2017.

Whole lotta nothing in this post.
Sure it's great to win
RetroJint : 10/16/2016 5:35 pm : link
However the only real difference between this game and the previous three was the level of competition dropped precipitously. Forget their record coming in: Baltimore stinks. They are heading back to last season's 5-11. They didn't have three o-linemen. Their best corner went out during the game, as did Suggs, later.

And the Giants? Before you allow yourself to be swept away on a tide of hyperbole , remember Wallace running wide open at the eight, and Flacco missing him on the sideline.

I still have hopes for this season. But the Giants aren't anywhere near being a good team, at least yet.

Yeah, having never seen Wentz prior to coming into the league, not sure what to make of him, though I believe I read he's prone to taking a bunch of sacks. He did today..To date, hard not be be impressed after 6 games (after Dallas finishes theirs) with Dak and Wentz

You are describing virtually every team in every game..Every game has QBs missing wide open receivers, it's indigenous to virtually every game that's ever been played. I don't know what to make of this team so far, but pointing to specific plays the other team COULD HAVE MADE is rather silly? Imo
It wasn't pretty at times
Matt M. : 10/16/2016 5:43 pm : link
But, I agree about this win. First, I felt a loss here and the season was done. Second, fighting back and fighting the officiating made this sweet. They way they kept responding in the 2nd half could be the character building win you mention. I hope so.

I do believe this was a step in the right direction and it had little to do with the level of competition. This is the NFL---look at Miami vs. Pitt today so lets give the Giants their due. One thing I would like to see is more Paul Perkin's --there is a real difference in speed when he hits a hole and the rest of our backs. I am sure the O line would like to see him to because you do not have to hold their blocks as long.
Congratulations to the D for their goal line stand. Haven't seen that in awhile and overall they played well.
Do all of the "realists" here who don't give the Giants credit for a

win because the other team was injured hold Giants opponents to the same standard when they're playing an injured Giants team? Or do you more likely criticize the Giants for their injuries. Everything is seen through a negative light.

I'm so damn disappointed that pass rush is one of these weaknesses.
Then entire NFL is composed of weekly accidents

That's all it is anymore. Sure there are good teams and bad just seems like every game breaks down to 5-6 freaky plays. Five or six games are somewhat predictable the rest are chaos. Giants epitomize this shit. Be nice to string a few wins together and then just try and survive the big games down the stretch. That's all we can do is hope.

Perhaps you're are right and it was overstating it but a win like this for a team having a rough start under a head coach in his first season and it just may be a turning point.

We shall see.
Maybe the beginning of the turn
jcn56 : 10/18/2016 7:40 am : link
These guys needed a confidence boost in the worst way. New HC, new position coaches, some new schemes - and a 3 game losing streak just made them all look like they wanted to be anywhere but out on the field on Sundays.

A win, some of the media pressure dying down, some of the fingers being pointed get put away - and maybe they can focus on improving enough to pick up another one next week and build up momentum.

I also think that with time the roster will improve, with continually increased snaps for Perkins and Adams, maybe a return to health by Vernon, the return of Apple - so the team will strengthen on the talent end as well.
And so it begins (grin)
