How good was the Giants Defense today?

gidiefor : Mod : 10/16/2016 6:26 pm
They made some outrageously good stops - that first fourth and goal was a critical stop
Pass D was good minus one good long pass against Jenkins
BestFeature : 10/16/2016 6:28 pm : link
Run defense was very disappointing to me except the goal line stand.
More good than bad, I thought.
BlackLight : 10/16/2016 6:28 pm : link
Flacco through a handful of lollypops that should've been deflected or picked, but overall, I liked the effort.
.
Danny Kanell : 10/16/2016 6:29 pm : link
They're everything we needed them to be last year.

Decently mediocre.

The secondary is the strength. We need Apple back though.
But they continue
NewBlue : 10/16/2016 6:30 pm : link
To give up 30-40-50 yard plays and they cant take the ball away. We applied a lot of pressure on Flacco today that was good to see, I thought JPP was as active as I have seen him this year....loved the blitzing, can't wait until Apple, Berhe, and Thompson return
JPP was very good
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 10/16/2016 6:30 pm : link
he might not be racking up the sacks, but he has had a good season.

Our DBs, besides Wade, played well.

Casillas with a monster play on that 4th down at the GL, might have been the defensive play of the game. Our big guys in the middle were the reason it even got to that 4th down in that situation.
Defense was very good, need to improve ...
DennyInDenville : 10/16/2016 6:32 pm : link
Need to Improve short yardage run D tho
Jenkins and Collins are the MVPs of this defense, thus far.
Dave in Hoboken : 10/16/2016 6:33 pm : link
DLine needs to get home alot more often. Last in sacks in the entire league isn't going to cut it. A TO once in awhile would be huge, too.
Defense is a mid pack one
hassan : 10/16/2016 6:33 pm : link
better than average in secondary, slightly below average in front 7. Talent is there but coaching is problematic.
They played well overall...
M.S. : 10/16/2016 6:35 pm : link

...but they played against a make-shift offensive line.
The Goal line stand
ChicagoMarty : 10/16/2016 6:35 pm : link
may stand as the turnaround point of the whole season imo

I was standing in a sports bar with no audio of the game but I jumped a solid two inches doubling my best vertical pr when Casillas made the stop on fourth and goal
Mixed bag.
shockeyisthebest8056 : 10/16/2016 6:36 pm : link
Positives:

- Most pressure they've gotten all season, but that was to be expected
- Goal line stand
- Jenkins & Collins looked great most of the game

Negatives:

- Early 3rd down defense was poor
- Gave up bombs to the only deep threat the Ravens had in the second half
- I honestly don't know what the fuck they were doing at the end of the game with Mike Wallace

Shades of Washington, game 3, 2007?
You can't go far
ChicagoMarty : 10/16/2016 6:39 pm : link
without a D making big stops

The Jints are starting to do that now

This was the first game in maybe many seasons that I felt some confidence that we could get a big stop when we needed it late in the game
Can't Complain
Bluesbreaker : 10/16/2016 6:39 pm : link
Collins is a freaking Stud ...
Hankins had 3 TFL .. Kennard was Active
Casillas was all over the place and the 4th down stop was
Awesome play .
DRC got screwed on the PI but he was solid as was Jack Rabbitt
and not too manys WR's have the speed to run that ball down
on the one big play he gave up . Otherwise he has been the
best FA pickup and he is the best cover corner we have had
in a long time .
I think Okwara and Odi will improve so the arrow is pointing
up although the Ravens were missing key players so we
caught a break there . But hell nobody gives a damn
when were ravaged with injuries .
Be nice to get Apple Thompson and Behre back though .
Flacco
Mark from Jersey : 10/16/2016 6:46 pm : link
had all day in the first half...turned it up a bit in the second.

That stop by Cas was HUGE...Shed the block and tackled the RB...great play.
A bend but don't break for most part

The Ravens were 5 for 18 on 3rd down, that's a bit better than 'bend but don't break'.
That Casillas stop
UConn4523 : 10/16/2016 7:13 pm : link
was like Kawika Mitchell's against the skins.
They were pretty damn good today ...
Beer Man : 10/16/2016 7:20 pm : link
They were placed into some bad situations by the Offense and by the Refs, but otherwise they were solid.
I don't know if others noticed
Beer Man : 10/16/2016 7:22 pm : link
But Kennard was very active and played very well. Hopefully, we this is the beginning of what we all hope from him.
Not all was good ....
Beer Man : 10/16/2016 7:27 pm : link
Wade cost the team again with his poor play; Eli Apple can't get healthy quick enough.
Beer Man
gidiefor : Mod : 10/16/2016 7:29 pm : link
I agree -- Wade was truly a weak link out there

but I thought the Giants made more than a handful of significantly awesome stops

Definitely. He had some awesome tackles and big stops short of the first down marker.

Also, Casillas had the tackle of the game. The LBs looked decent today. Sheppard looks surprisingly good in coverage at times.
If we had this years defense on last years team
mfsd : 10/16/2016 7:32 pm : link
We would have been about 11-5
And Andrew Adams
adamg : 10/16/2016 7:32 pm : link
looks like a good backup FS. Nothing big happens near his number, from my memory. And he had some good pressures today. Good blitzes.

True - Add Darian Thompson to that list.
after the first few series pretty good
chris r : 10/16/2016 7:34 pm : link
got helped by a ton of penalties against the Ravens though.

Shaky in coverage, but he's shown he can tackle well. Definitely a NFL player.
I thought the D did an admirable job today overall...
richynyc : 10/16/2016 8:16 pm : link
...we gave them field position with turnovers several times and the refs gifted them several other early Xmas presents. That said, anytime Wade is on the field you know the ball is going 31's way, and more often than not bad things happen. And Hall isn't much better.

Wade needs to be gone, which I and many other posters have been saying since he was forced into action due to the Apple and DRC injuries during the Skins game I believe and he got torched repeatedly then and since.

Idk. I think he'd be better in the slot than Hall has been. Hall has looked really bad. I don't know why he gets a pass. It seems to me that his track record is shielding him from the Wade treatment.

I agree and said that last week - Hall blows bigtime.
Pretty good

The goal line stop was a thing of beauty.

OBJs fumble put them in a hole early in the game but they didn't fold and that shows mental toughness, good coachIng and players making plays.

Still seems like offenses are finding our mismatches too easily: thought Flaco found Wade for one big first down and Collins matched up on a WR for another.

I was worried at the end of the game. I still don't trust these guys to come up big in the big spots. But, today was a good win and a step in the right direction.
Is there any film

Goal line stand was awesome!!
BigBlue in Keys : 10/17/2016 5:42 am : link
Haven't seen that in a long time from this squad. I thought they really kept us in the game early when the offense couldn't stay on the field. Finally got some pressure too. I love seeing Collins up on the line. Defense won this one for us today.
we need Thompson and Apple back
djm : 10/17/2016 1:03 pm : link
it might be asking too much to be that healthy on D but if those guys can come back the D would be nearly 100% intact. They really need to limit Wade's snaps. Every team has holes on D and Wade has played hard but he's just getting ripped out there.
