I read after the bye
pjcas18 : 10/18/2016 10:28 am : link
from one of the beat writers on twitter.

I'll see if I Can dig it up.
If I had my choice, I would absolutely not

even think about playing him until after the bye..That should be a slam dunk mindset, imo
Apple and Thompson
Tuckrule : 10/18/2016 10:37 am : link
Should wait until after the bye. Thankfully we're playing keenum and Kenny Britt and tavon Austin. We can afford to sit Apple this week. I just hope anybody plays over Wade. Wade cannot play on the outside. Hall or even sesnaubaugh please. I'd prob take hunter too over Wade

Mornin' Tuck..Yup, agree totally about Apple. Hope he and DT don't even make the trip
These guys should all play

when they're medically cleared and the coaches think they're game ready.

Not to be a dick, but any other opinion is beyond presumptuous.

I don't get the fan mindset of saying "...no way player X should play until..."

none of us know anything.

When the team doctors clear them and the coaches feel they're game ready they should play.

Schwartz tweeted 'looks like after the bye' while boot was still on...
Big Blue Blogger : 10/18/2016 10:54 am : link
...then Stapleton tweeted that the boot had come off, but he didn't really try to pin down the timeline. He just speculated that Thompson wouldn't play against the Rams, which seems like a safe bet. I think his most recent DB guesses for London were: Berhe yes; Thompson and Apple no.

The Rams' offense is pretty bad. Like Baltimore, they have a few guys who can bust a big play here and there. While it would be nice to have Thompson back, this isn't a game where you would want to rush his return.
If both are healthy, they will play
gmen9892 : 10/18/2016 10:58 am : link
But if there is any doubt, you sit them and give them an extra 2 weeks ahead of a HUGE division matchup as opposed to rushing them back to play a shitty Rams offense. Dont even chance it if they not close to 100%.

It's a fan perspective as well as a medical generalization..That's what we do here..That extra two weeks of healing could be huge moving forward as both guys are extremely vital towards our playoff aspirations..Not that we can overlook ANY QB, but if we were facing Brady, I might agree with your take on this..But Keenum? I don't believe, even if he's capable of beating us, that he poses anywhere near the threat that a Brady would, so as a fan, I would keep them out and think remaining 9 games after Sunday

I know and I didn't mean to see critical, but a W is a W, nothing should be taken for granted in this league and I think that's how coaches coach (without taking anything for granted). If a player is cleared and deemed ready and maybe this is the key, playing wouldn't risk further damage and is a potential improvement over other players I don't know any coach that would say well next week is a bye week, we can win without this guy and get him back better rested.

Jobs are too non-secure (IMO) to make personnel decisions that way.

Best chance to win on game day is who you play.

I think this has been evidenced with the way the Giants have handled DRC.

I don't think anyone wants to hold out the rookie DBs if they are healthy and looking good in practice. The question is how to optimize the 46-man active list for a particular opponent if convalescent players are cleared, but still a half-step slow or at slightly elevated risk for re-injury. If it comes down to, say, Apple vs. an extra defensive lineman or receiver, it might make sense to give Apple the extra two weeks to get back to 100%.

Obviously, if Apple is full-go, he plays. Britt, Austin, and Quick may not be the greatest receiving trio in the league, but they are all good enough to beat Hall, Wade or Sensabaugh.

Well, anything can happen. Keenum and Britt both played very well last Sunday. I think at one point Keenum had thrown 18 straight completions.
I agree
pjcas18 : 10/18/2016 11:59 am : link
obviously if a player isn't ready or risks further injury by playing don't play them.

But I definitely do not think the Giants are saying "let's rest them another week even though they're ready because it's just the Rams"

the Rams have the same record as the Giants and 6 less points scored and have played some tough defenses too.

I would not take them lightly, I'd approach it like Parcells, if you can play you will play.
Getting Apple and Thompson back
blueblood'11 : 10/18/2016 3:39 pm : link
Getting those two guys back will be a huge shot in the arm. The defense for the most part has played pretty well and done a good job of keeping them in games. Those two rookies have shown to be very able and did what Wentz and Prescott have done for the Eagles and Cowboys respectively and have not played like rookies.

I thought this defense would be very dynamic when I saw the way the two of them contributed to the defense. Getting them back will only make the defense better and harder to score on. If they stay healthy the second half of the season will be very interesting to watch. I think this defense which showed signs of being top ten early on may just become that once Spags has them back and gives him more flexibility, and depth of options.
I watched
Photoguy : 10/18/2016 4:12 pm : link
some of the Rams/Lions, and both teams were moving the ball pretty well all afternoon. Lots of holes open for the rb's, and several big gains for recievers of both teams. I don't think anyone here is taking the Rams lightly, given the problems we've had moving the ball for long stretches.

If they're deemed at or close to 100%, they're playing..If not, might as well not force the issue with the coveted bye week coming up, imv

I agree but can understand fan's caution because the team's miserable health history over several seasons.
Got to leave these decisions to the staff.
