I don't know anything about minor league prospects, but whoever the Yankees got for Miller better turn out to be an all-star! What an amazing job Miller has done this postseason for Cleveland; nothing short of Mariano-esque.
we wouldn't be in the playoffs to use him. It was a win win trade.
Bingo. What good was having that bullpen if we weren't scoring runs and winning games? It was the right move and the Yankees are a much better team for it.

Well put. A closer is a finishing touch. We don't even have the foundation.
Miller seems like a good guy with a great attitude, and I'm glad he's been delivering for Cleveland like he has. I just hope the Yankees' compensation works out equally well!
No sense keeping a talent around if he will be too old to help you once you finish rebuilding for the future when he could instead help bring back prospects to assist in that process.
so far makes it clear that while we had a nice run this year, the Yanks are more than just one reliever, however dominant, from being a legit World Series contender
I wouldn't bet the farm on that. In baseball Prospects are just that until they prove they can do it on the big stage. The Yanks have some highly promising prospects in their system, but for every Gary Sanchez and Ron Guidry, there are probably 20 Kevin Maas and 20 Brien Taylors.
the Yankees farm system went from top half (maybe top 12 based on who you go by) to #2 in baseball.
The deadline deals were a no-brainer.
I didn't understand the Clippard acquisition, but it's was a small move, either way the Yankees long-term and short-term improved within that 6 day period.
I think my post was misconstrued; I think that the Yankees made an excellent decision in trading Miller, as the team is too far off from contending. In light of how well he's doing, I hope the prospects turn into perennial all-stars.
This article from today's NYP echoes my sentiments...
the fact that some people have only realized it now speaks volumes...
And, questions of ignorance aside, it is interesting how a player who has some degree of success for a winning team is perceived as more valuable/better/whatever than one who does it for a lousy team - even in something that's largely individual and stat-measurable like closing games.
Certainly NFL pro bowl rosters reflect it every year.

nobody ever said he wasn't great here. what was said is that at this stage of the team's development it was the right move to trade him for futures.

Smart move by the Yankees
What don't you get about that?
And even if it WERE the Yankees, Miller loses much of his value when Pineda gives up 5 runs in 6 innings.
