FROM DAVE TE-BEST TIGHT END PROSPECT FOR NEW YORK

nflscouting : 10/20/2016 5:50 pm
Hey guys, I am at the game tonight between Virginia Tech-Miami. If you watch the game, give me your thoughts on the Tech tight end Bucky Hodges. Whether it is blue or green jerseys, this kid would be a natural in New York. I'm pretty much tired of seeing other teams invest in quality tight ends while both NY teams going bottom bin shopping.
Also, look at the Tech QB Jerod Evans - Cam Newton without the flakiness. They have a great receiver in Isaiah Ford, but he's hobbled with a bad ankle tonight. Remember when fullbacks were important? Check out Tech's Sam Rogers tonight - a blast from the past.
Well, teams have been hounding me for my Hodges report. Here we go;
THE NFL DRAFT REPORT’S “CREAM OF THE CROP SERIES - Former Prep Quarterback Bucky Hodges Is Mastering the Art of Playing Tight End
In just two-and-a-half seasons, this former quarterback has developed into the nation’s most gifted tight end. Sure, the media will continue to hype Alabama’s O.J. Howard, but when it comes to athleticism, sheer desire and outstanding determination, Hodges is head and shoulders above the rest. If the junior decides to test NFL draft waters in 2017, do not be surprised if he is not only a first rounder, but possibly suiting up in either a blue or green uniform while playing in the Big Apple. Great vertical, according to the article.

"At the Atlantic Coast Invitational, he recorded a high jump of 34 feet/4.5 inches."
You Got it CT Charlie

I love this kid. I probably have not been as excited on an ACC pass catcher since Megatron. Nah, VT never really threw the ball much, but this year looks different. Watch how they use him tonight, as they line him at TE, wide at the X & Z & also have him taking direct snaps. Best TE in college, hands down

A great pass catching TE, but really lacks in the blocking department.

A player the Giants should watch is Isah Ford. He's a fantastic posession reciever.

Hell Brad Kaya could be a draft pick for the Giants as well, since we are approaching the end of Eli's career.
Imagine if we had him bow !

Is it in our DNA to take a TE that High ?
Shockey is the last great TE off the top of my head .
We so lack in size and quality in the pass game .
Have No problem if they took a chance on him .
Nor would I a top notch Running back .
I wouldn't be shocked to see them grab an O-lineman
in free agency , round #2 probably a pass rusher .
My Day 1 + Day 2 mock:
Anakim : 10/20/2016 6:27 pm : link
1) WR Courtland Sutton of SMU or WR Mike Williams of Clemson

2) LT Ryan Ramczyk of Wisconsin, Julie'n Davenport of Bucknell (never saw him play but scouts apparently love him) or Jamarco Jones of Ohio State

3) LB Azeem Victor of Washington

Before this year, I agree. This year, 44 knockdowns, 17 second level blocks and 6 TD-resulting blocks in six games

But this year he has been playing more of a Flanker role this year not TE. He is split out wide and isn't inside blocking on the line. He is blocking corners most of the time.

Is the true TE on the team now.

Hodges is playing X, Y & Z positions, but look at the game tonight. On practically every jet-sweep, there he is out in front. Fuente's has been using in combination with FB sam Rogers to seal the edges, as he's not happy-happy with pass blocking from his OTs. I have eight scouts sitting right here in the booth with me. I just asked about Hodges' blocking. Not one is saying anything bad this year. Understand, until 2014 fall camp, this kid was a QB, & a prep QB too. Think of this kid as a tremendous talent that is still a work in progress, but think more Jimmy Graham/Gronk pass catching skills

I'm no scout, but I am looking forward to watching Kyle Allen next year at UH after sitting out 2016 (transferred from A&M). The former 5 star recruit will be eligible for the draft in 2018.

I'm not as high on Kaaya as some of the scouts but he will be gone by Rd 3 and the Giants have some huge holes at other positions. Don't see hem going that early for a QB but you never know.
I prefer the TE on the other team....

Howard from Alabama.

Big, talented kid with speed and hands to match. Well coached and has played in big games, which to me is a valuable thing to have on his resume

Ok, can anyone give a scouting report
barens : 10/21/2016 7:58 am : link
on #49 from V-Tech? That guy, and #60 Baron(who looked like a poor mans Aaron Donald), just crushed Miami's offense.
Howard seems like the better blocker
njm : 10/21/2016 8:20 am : link
And given the Giant's WR corps I'll sacrifice a little receiving ability to get a solid blocker to assist the OL.
Here is the issue
robbieballs2003 : 10/21/2016 9:05 am : link
We all want a perfect TE. The problem is that they don't really exist. The solution should be to get both types of TEs. We NEED a TE that is a threat in the pass game. The Giants NEED a TE that block his ass off. It shouldn't be one over the other.

Yes we need a complete makeover to the TE position. Which basically is getting rid of Donnell and adding two others. I wouldn't mind them taking a shot early in the draft with a young pass catcher and then sign a veteran who can block.

Do you really think they would go WR in the first two rounds? I don't think its the greatest use of resources. We need quality depth on the EDGE and a LT and fresh face at TE would do wonders IMO. We have OBJ and Shep. Lewis looks like he may be able to be a solid 3/4 and you could add a bigger vet FA at a decent deal.

I'd really like to see two of these positions drafted in the first two rounds. I get the BPA style of the Giants, but we need to start investing in some of these positions:

RB
TE
LT - depending on Flowers production and position next yr
LB
DL - depending on who's here JPP or Hank
LB
TE

People on BBI continue to think that all these dual threat TE exist in college - they don't. Good blocking TE that are not pass catchers are not getting drafted. Guys that can catch and can't block are drafted all over.

Ertz, Eiffert, Ebron, Sefarian-Jenkins, Amaro, Nicklas, Rodgers, Feidorowicz, Kleco, Reed, Fleener, Allen, Green, Kendricks, Housler, Thomas, Cameron, Williams, Wolford, Kroft - who here can actually block and catch

Kyle Rudoplh might be the only guy drafted in the last 5 years who can do both.

You really have to go back to 2010 to see guys who could do both
