Since being released by #Bears, free agent K Robbie Gould has waited for the right opportunity. #Giants is it. Could be for an extended time

Wouldn't mind a long term deal myself.
Gould is a solid pick up

used to kicking in bad weather.

And hey, in the Giants first 2 Super Bowls, they had to replace their kicker in season: Raul Allegre replaced Joe Cooper and Bob Thomas in 1986. In 1990, Matt Bahr replaced Allegre.

Still, the Giants have sunk a lot of money into kickers this year. Good riddance Brown.
Good move.......
Simms11 : 10/20/2016 8:18 pm : link
hopefully he stil has that mojo.
Best choice given the slim pickings.

Hopefully DeOssie is available to start building rapport... He's with an injury now...

Under over on 4th down attempts? 1.5??

Great move
David in LA : 10/20/2016 8:26 pm : link
I can't believe the team didn't cut their losses sooner on Brown. Even when we didn't know all the details before, the ensuing distraction and PR backlash is not worth dealing with for a kicker. I know it's shitty to say, but a kicker costs little money, and you can go out and find one.

Well, taking a flyer on a guy with a chip on his shoulder isn't a bad bet.

50+: 7/9
40-49: 7/9
30-39: 10/12

Those were his misses last year. Also missed 1 XP.

Don't know about his kickoffs.

He was *terrible* in 12 games in 2014. Maybe he meant that. 75% FG kicker.
If Gould doesn't totally screw up,
old man : 10/20/2016 8:33 pm : link
this is my take:
Brown gets cut, Gould signed for balance of the year.
Giants issue a statement:
Given new evidence, we've evaluated the situation, and, in the best interest of(all, Josh, family, the team, the game,or some combination) we have released Josh Brown. We will support his efforts however we can to make sure that those incidents do not reoccur. We thank Josh for the tremendous contributions he has made to help the team win and wish him well.
Even if RG screws up, they have 2 weeks to find a kicker for games 8 through the Super Bowl(gotta think optimistically).
What happened to Josh Brown?

Serious post?

They left him in New York. He's done. Not officially cut, but he won't play Sunday.

Kickers to run in cycles. Matt Bahr was cut by the Browns because his kickoffs were short and they didn't feel like he had the leg for long field goals. And he came off a poor year in 1989 and was cut at age 34. He worked out pretty well for the Giants.
Well he can't wear number 9

Gould was a good kicker for quite a while. As people have said, even good kickers have dowm years.

Under the circumstances, this is as good as we could have hoped for.

Josh Brown also had a down year after being one of the best kickers in football for years and he bounced around before resurrecting his career with the Giants. It does happen quite often hopefully Gould returns to form and is the Giants kicker for the next 5 years.

That's what I thought..Curious why the Bears let this guy walk, if he's still anywhere near the top of his game..

I don't think that means much. Brown had to go.
Gould supposedly changed his entire workout regimen
nygiants16 : 10/20/2016 9:49 pm : link
gained weight went 5 for 6 in oreseason bit missed 2 pats
For his career, he's automatic from 30 yards in......
Simms11 : 10/20/2016 9:56 pm : link
about 90% from 30 - 39 and then from 40 - 49 about 72%. He's actually a little better over 50 yards at around 74%. He had an XP blocked last year, but for the most part has been around 99%. Statistically not bad and he's been with the Bears for around 11 years.....so he had to do something right.

Good signing as the Giants have an experienced kicker that can hit some long ones with some accuracy. I'm optimistic.
hope

He's a kicker look at Vinatieri, Janikowski, Bryant etc.
Why is he available?
Vanzetti : 10/20/2016 10:37 pm : link
23 for 29 in FGs from 30-39 yards over the last 4 years. He missed a lot of big kicks.

Career:

89% from 30-39
77% from 40-49

Twenty-five years ago those would have been great numbers but not so today. However, he has been really good from 50+, making 68% (23-31)
