This isn't another Josh Brown debate... just something about our current football team.
Gould is:
- The leading scorer in Bears history (1,118 points)
- The leader for most field goals in one season (33) in Bears history (2015)
- The Bears' leader for most consecutive 50+ yard field goals made (11 straight in 2013)
- The record holder for longest field goal in Bears history (58 yards in 2013)
- The 9th most accurate kicker in NFL history
Of course he's gonna miss 3 kicks now on Sunday, but we got a very successful player who isn't that old by kickers standards (34). Josh Brown was very good for us, but Gould has been great for a decade. I have a feeling he's gonna hit a very, very big kick for us at some point this year.
Exactly

So it's a lower quality guy. That said, Gould is very average (85ish%) which is fine. We should be fine with him. He missed 2 in the 30-39 range and another 2 in the 40-49 range last year. He's not an upgrade by any means.
Brown is a top 10 kicker btw. Don't know what the haters are talking about. His talent hasn't been in question.
But career Brown is only 83.6. So Gould's an upgrade.
During his time with the Giants, that's 3 full seasons plus the 5 games from this year, Brown has a 91.7% FGP. Gould has never broken 90% in a season. It's not an upgrade in any conceivable way.
Statistically, Josh Brown has been one of the most impressive place kickers in team history.
Brown has been exceptional with the Giants for sure. Can't be improved upon.
But as that's good as he's been, the full body of Gould's work gives me much more confidence when a big kick is coming up. So I'm not really comparing who was better last year. I'm saying I think Gould is going to be a plus for us moving forward, in confidence and in practice.
Gould has costed the Bears several games over the last couple seasons, missing FGAs in the 40s range. Therefore, I am not optimistic about this tradeoff in place kickers. Additionally, because he is rusty, Gould could very well cost the Giants a game tomorrow, a game I expect to be very close.

Don't ever change.
doesn't cost us the game .
Would be nice to win a game going away instead of biting
are fingernails off in the closing seconds .
It's nice to have a kicker who can boot regular season field goals at a high clip, but history has shown that half of those guys melt down in the playoffs when the stakes are highest.
Excited to have Gould on board
Yeah, that kick would have gotten us into the playoffs where we definitely would have moved onto the Superbowl...
That said, it is very fortunate that a kicker with his resume was available midseason
Gould is young, and hungry.....he is playing for next year's contract.....unfortunately, lately Giant's doing that, don't seem to come up big...
I love watching the Giants and it s more fun when they are still revelant. That kick Lupe have kept them relevant for one more week, so for me it meant something. For fans who would only really care if the team is a Super Bowl contender it wasn't t.

You know, I actually agree with you on the relevancy concept completely. Just taking a cheap shot at your extreme post of "never forgave"...
No worries. I felt he was going to miss that one anyway...it was that kind of year. :-)
