NFT: Boston question

B in ALB : 10/22/2016 10:31 am
An obscure question for you guys - I hope you can help. What would be the easiest way to get from Salem to Boston College without a car? Can you take the train into Boston, then cab it to BC?

I'm going to be in Salem today but I want to skip the tourist shout and bring my son to the Cuse/BC game instead.

Many thanks.
Probably a lot easier...

Train from Boston to BC.

Google Maps is your friend.
Will your wife have the car in Salem? So that's why you're looking at

public transportaion?

Salem is a freak show this time of year (cool to see once, but never again).

There is a commuter rail train from Salem to North Station, leaves I want to say once an hour.

From North Station you need take the silver line bus to South station (or uber to South Station) and then get the green line T to BC.

It's a hassle but doable. Because then you need to do that same thing back.

Doable though I wouldn't do it.

I'd uber it, though that would be expensive.
Bus to Boston,

Then Green Line, E Branch to BC.
I agree w/pjcas

Uber is probably easiest although not cost effective ,if that is an issue.
Don't take a bus

the Newburyport/Rockport Commuter Rail train goes through Salem to and from North Station.

much faster than a bus.

Commuter rail is like Amtrak where the T (what you'd take from South station to BC) is a more commuter-like (cheaper) train like a subway, but mostly above ground.
Sorry Train

To/From both destinations

Google Maps is only your friend if you can read what it says!!
Or you can do what you said

take the Commuter rail to north station and grab a cab there to BC. BC is technically not in Boston though, it's Chestnut Hill which is a village that is part Boston, part Newton, part something else, maybe Brookline. Only mentioning this because North Station is near the Garden/North End - nowhere near BC. It would be a long-ish cab ride.

An uber or cab of any type would be more direct and faster.

I used to go to a lot of BC games, if you and your son go, there's a good chance cuse fans outnumber the BC fans and those yellow super fan shirts are hideous.
Thanks all

Its probably easiest to rent a car but they're only open until noon today and I might not get there in time. Uber is about $60 each way. The rail is like $12 then a $10 uber.

$120 is cheaper than I thought it would be roundtrip. Doesn't seem bad, renting a car would have been what $85?

And parking at BC games is almost as bad as parking at MetLife. I'd avoid driving for that reason. One tiny road into one parking garage, that takes hours to get out of on some days.
