Alabama TE

Rjanyg : 10/22/2016 6:20 pm
Watching the Bama/ A & M game. Good game.

I like what I am seeing if OJ Howard. Although a little light, 6'6" with good blocking technique, very athletic. I'm sure he will be 1st round pick but I would love to see him on the Giants next year.

He seems to be a natural West Coast offensive TE.
Howard is a great athlete
GeorgeAdams33 : 10/22/2016 6:38 pm : link
He's been somewhat of an enigma up to this point. If we drafted him I would hope that with some maturity he might reach his vast potential. He could be better than Shockey was.
Good Class this Year

Bucky Hodges Evan Engram and Jake Butt all have great
size and are productive .
Its time we added a big time threat would help Eli
immensely .
Until this org gets strong on the LOS

all the skill positions in the world won't fix the mess IMO.
Howard is the best TE in the class

and is a two way TE which is a rare breed these days. Not only is he an outstanding blocker, in line, up field or as an H Back, he can line up in multiple formations as a receiving TE and has soft hands. Statistically I don't think he's dropped a pass yet.

He's criminally underused but that's not his fault. Remember, he's playing with a freshman QB this year and the two previous QBs he's played with went undrafted and aren't in the NFL. When he gets to the NFL and with a pro QB he'll take off. If he stays clean and healthy, there are multiple Pro Bowls in his future.

Howard looks like a big time pro prospect at TE.

Engram looks like a beast as well....

You do realize that TEs are part of the equation of controlling the LoS, right?
Easier to beat

Cover 2 with a great TE than build a running game. Both would be nice though

Wow, you should be an NFL coach.
I believe Sy is much higher on Hodges

this year's draft class appears to be very deep at TE, so perhaps the value will be there to take a TE in round 1. A big, tall TE would help threaten the middle of the defense in those double high safety looks. If he can also block, it'll help us set the edge for those outside runs. Kill two birds with one stone.
Donnell and Tye have both caused us TDS this year
adamg : 10/22/2016 7:57 pm : link
That problem being resolved alone makes us a much better offense. If Donnell could turn those flat routes into bigger gains that'd be nice, i.e. if another TE was running those routes...

Giants2012 is obviously a WCO analyst. So, I defer to him the rest of the way here.
Thank God

A new GM will be in place in 2017 to make this much needed pick.
Would rather draft a DE or OT
The_Boss : 10/22/2016 9:46 pm : link
Without a run game and better pass protection off the edges, this offense will continue to hold the team back.

JPP is a barely average DE now and it is obvious Odi is just a guy.

These are the 2 biggest needs at the moment. TE is likely 3rd followed by LB, but you can forget that idea. You can also say, with Cruz appearing to be vastly diminished, an outside WR could be added as well.

It would be a blessing to have a 2 way TE, run blocking red zone threat
I'm not sure who specifically is responsible but....
Crispino : 10/22/2016 11:34 pm : link
these Alabama players sure are coached up on their blocking skills. The tight ends and wide receivers are incredible downfield blockers. Their running game is so effective because the blocking downfield continues right to the whistle. Consistently. It's also the best tackling team in college football. Fundamentals.

It starts at the top IMO. Saban is a great college coach. It's like playing for him is going to a football acacemy and you take classes on learning and knowing all phases of the game.

Come draft day if it's a choice between two guys and one played for Saban, I'm taking that guy every time.

It's similar to me to a HS basketball player who plays for Bobby Hurley. Every D1 coach in America knows if he gets one of his kids he's getting a coachable, talented kid who knows the game. It's as if they have a leg up in the understanding of the game, and now can just let their talent play.
Howard is pretty good but how about that
Jimmy Googs : 10/23/2016 8:27 am : link
#10 Reuben Foster the inside LB.

Would look great in blue...

That's the point. Saban does not accept continual fuckups if you want to play on his field. Read a few of his books and discussions and you find serious attention to detail, consistency, follow-up, and reinforcement. Also listen to an interview going into half-time or at the end of the game. They could be leading by 20 or won and the first thing out of his mouth is what they did not do well and it will be resolved. Winning is a habit, losing is not and issues that involve actions that steer toward losing take priority over "atta boys" and other mouthbreathing.

I also like Jeremy Sprinkle and Jordan Leggett. Pharaoh Brown has amazing potential, but he has durability problems.
