Eli Manning: 24 for 37, 196 yards

robbieballs2003 : 10/23/2016 12:53 pm
Yes, we are all happy we won. Any win is a good win. But what the fuck happened to this offense? We complete almost two-thirds of our passes but we averaged just over 8 yards a completion and just over 5 yards an attempt. This has to change.
Offense the first half of season

is very concerning. Unless there really isn't talent on it (which on paper looks to be 'explosive)
We just had a HUGE win

Sure it does.

Eli and the O will snap out of it..McAdoo needs to loosen up his ass and get creative OR, hand over the PC to Sullivan(not that that would be a huge improvement)..

The good news for this fan? While we and McAdoo are finding our way, we're at least in the thick of it re playoff contention..
Serious question...

Does anyone play well in London?
And this isn't a thread knocking Eli at all.

It is more the play selection and overall state of the offense.
It's a valid concern.

ANd we won the turnover battle. What a surprise we won the game.

One game at a time. Giants need to improve but for now we're ok. Relax for two weeks.
It's frustrating
bceagle05 : 10/23/2016 1:00 pm : link
but we had shitty field position most of the day, and we pulled in the reins once our defense gained the upper hand on Keenum. These London games typically suck anyway - NFL needs to give it a rest. Landon Collins makes an incredible play and it draws polite applause from the Brits.

The Eagles are over-rated. Agreed, they'll beat the Giants if the Giants bring this same garbage on offense, but beat-down? Doubt it.

They very fact that both you and I look at it objectively as a a very winnable game is precisely why I see a beat down coming. Just par for the course the last few seasons. The eagles in recent history always get up for the Giants game and the Giants seem to go between playing average for them to playing awful. A bye week to prepare and coming off a win? Sets it up perfectly for the consistently inconsistent Giants to shit the bed.
They have zero threat at RB/TE/WR #2.
drkenneth : 10/23/2016 1:25 pm : link
Perkins/Adams/SS need to step it up.

OL has been ok.
They can't run the ball against any front, they have the worst TEs
Devon : 10/23/2016 1:30 pm : link
in the NFL, they lost their best pass catching RB (sorry, Rainey), and they can't even go 4 wide and try to blow the top off because of their OL. It's pretty clear their #2 WR has lost a step and isn't really all that suited to be playing outside with any consistency anymore as well.

This isn't a 2013 situation where it's a lost cause, but they've got a lot to figure out this bye week and try to cover for going forward. Most teams aren't going to do them a solid like Baltimore almost did.
...
christian : 10/23/2016 1:32 pm : link
The Giants absolutely need to run the ball better. It's brutal.

There's no magic imagination or secret hidden plays coming to save the season.

Our play action is comical. Our push upfront is comical.

I think that Eli had a very good game considering the

poor OL play. There was no running game once again, and only Eli's ability to make quick decisions and get rid of the ball very quickly kept him from being sacked on more than one occasion. He had almost no time to throw today.

Well, it's for the reason I mentioned.. our run game is horrid. It's tough to have a great pass attack when no one is afraid of you running the football.
When you go shotgun 90% of the time
JohnF : 10/23/2016 1:43 pm : link
run options are limited to variations of the shotgun draw. Really, we should be running more screen passes off of play action (instead of shotgun draws), but there simply isn't a lot there to work with in terms of play variations.

I get that McAdoo is trying to put his best offensive threats out there (the 3 wide), but we have problems there, too. We miss having a speed burner on the opposite side of OBJ...neither Cruz or SS are deep downfield threats at this point. And our TE's are average (Tye) to awful (Donnell).

Deep threats won't matter if the line can't hold up, and this line is having issues with the 2 seconds Eli has now. We need to take the bye to get Beatty in there, either swapping him and Flowers around, or getting him at RT. May want to put the Canadian kid at center too...Richburg simply is having too many issues at center in the power runs.

So, my fixes for the running game would be:

1) If Beatty is ready, get him in at LT over the bye, switch Flowers to RT, put Brett Jones in at center, sit Richburg.

2) Get a Fullback. There has to be someone on a practice squad, or free agent. Or use Adams as a hybrid TE.

3) Sit Cruz, make SS the full time Slot, and put Lewis or King opposite OBJ.

4) Get Eli behind center, save the Shotgun for end of half/game. Use Perkins as a 3rd down back, Jennings and Darkwa otherwise.

I'm not coach, though, so I expect things to remain the same.
I don't understand it myself.
Mike in Long Beach : 10/23/2016 1:57 pm : link
But my best guess is, believe it or not, Will Johnson may have been a bigger loss than we thought.

As LT'56 noted in his other thread, we're constantly doing these draw plays that go nowhere. Johnson is a great blocking fullback, and we lost a big opportunity to have success on the ground with him as our lead blocker, IMO.

From there, that would naturally open up the pass more.

We can't run it at all. I think if he were here we'd be running it much better and defenses wouldn't be able to sit in these cover 2s against us all the time.
Only time offense resembles of coming out of it
micky : 10/23/2016 2:08 pm : link
Is when they go up tempo..get to line and go with play
Eli has always seemed to work well in the no huddle..
arcarsenal : 10/23/2016 2:20 pm : link
But the problem with it is that you also risk a quick 3 and out and in a game like today, we really needed our offense to spend some time on the field after the way it started with the defense out there almost the entire first quarter.
Maybe this is the year we beat Philly somehow
joe48 : 10/23/2016 2:47 pm : link
Defense is playing better and we get time off to rest and maybe get Darius Thompson back.Their defense is very good. Wenzhou starting to look a bit like a rookie,
The Rams defense shut down
Les in TO : 10/23/2016 3:22 pm : link
The short passing game and run game. Cruz and Donnell dropped and fumbled away opportunities. Eli managed game well and didn't make any major mistakes but accuracy was inconsistent and got rid of the ball too quickly at times. Play calling was inconsistent:The third and one pass attempt for 25 yards is infuriating.
Teams can drop
Big Rick in FL : 10/23/2016 3:48 pm : link
A ton of guys into coverage because we don't have a run game. It's time to play Perkins & get more touches for Rainey/Darkwa. Jennings just isn't cutting it. He's hesitant & has never had the speed to get outside. Our opponents know we are going to run inside the tackles. That's what is killing this offense IMO. Let Perkins play. Bring in Rashad to block on 3rd down. They need to try & find a Fullback. Also I'd try to make a trade for a TE.
...
christian : 10/23/2016 3:59 pm : link
I jus can't believe Will Johnson was a big part of the plan, he gets hurt, and they screw it, we're not using a fullback at all?

Well the problem was that we really didn't have anyone else with the same skillset. I don't think Whitlock would have made much difference.. and I'm not really sure who is available at this point.

christian : 10/23/2016 4:07 pm : link
I think Macadoo needs to make a commitment to WCO principles in the short game or not. Everything short to sub the run gets eaten up so easily. It amazes me we don't get anything productive from even our WRs in the short game.
