Have the Giants ever had a worse running game than this?

Del Shofner : 10/23/2016 12:58 pm
Been following the Giants for 50+ years and I can remember lots of Giants teams that had terrible O's, but I am trying to think of a season when the Giants had a worse running game than this, and I can't come up with one. Usually even the offensively challenged teams had an RB who was decent.
It's hard to run the ball

when you only call the same run out of the same formation each time. Easy for defenses to defend what they know is coming.
But..but...the problem was Andre Williams

At least that's what I been told.
I miss it the most watching other games

Seeing teams with just ordinary running capabilities blows me away any more.

the running game is

ridiculous -- but it still sets up the play action

I get the frights, though, every time Donnell is on the field

"bad old days" - they still had Doug Kotar and Larry Csonka such that there was a semblance of a running game.

One has. Toning to do with the other. Why people rode that kids jock is amazing. Where is he tearing it up now. I mean he will work for the vet minimum and is still out there. OL is of good at run blocking. No FB. AME McAdoo is a shitty offensive coordinator. A west coast offece guy. Can't find any of those anywhere but Mara and Tisch annoited him. Definative evidence of the Peter principal at work.

thanks - so I'm not imagining it -

I'm old but I don't go back to 1940 ...
Awful its a disgrace ...

I am talking Leon McQuay George Adams type looking bad.

Considering where his career is right now, this is not the hill to die on.

He stinks and so do a lot of current factors in their terrible run game.
Remember it has been some tough DLs
BillT : 10/23/2016 1:55 pm : link
Balt, Minn, GB, and the Rams have good DLs. So, of course does Philly. Lets see if they can get going against Det and Chicago, etc.

True, but this team is worse so far. 2011 team averaged 89 yards rushing per game; we went into today averaging 76 and had only 36 today.
1975
Giants86 : 10/23/2016 8:53 pm : link
We were pretty bad. Eh. It's horrible our running game. Vereen is missed big time. We just aren't strong at the point of attack. It's sort of amazing that we are 4-3. We have shown some resilience this year, pulling out close gsmes.
the 5-9 team from 1975 was indeed pretty bad on a YPC basis -
Del Shofner : 10/23/2016 9:05 pm : link
only 3.4 - but on a YPG basis (which is the criterion I'm using) they were a powerhouse compared to this year's team @ 116 YPG.

1999

Tiki was there but he barely carried the ball. The leading rusher was Joe Montgomery. The team averaged 3.3 YPC.
OK, looking at 2013 -
Del Shofner : 10/23/2016 9:55 pm : link
that team was 7-9 and I won't disagree that they were bad at running. They averaged 83 YPG running and 3.5 YPC. But again - this team is worse - we are down to 70 YPG and 3.3 YPC after today.
Time to start

OK, that's a pretty tough comp, but I'll hang in there. The 1999 team was 7-9 and indeed had the same sucky 3.3 YPC that we now have. But their YPG was 88 and the current team is down to 70 YPG ... so this year is worse ...
Last year was worse
Matt M. : 10/23/2016 10:27 pm : link
And they should be playing Perkins much more at this point. McAdoo also needs to give up playcalling. Then again, he should have hired a real OC, not promote the QB coach simply to keep things the same.

No it wasn't. And there is no statistical evidence that shows otherwise at this time. Not to mention, the run game got on track at the end of the year.

Last year was actually quite a bit better, with 101 YPG and 4.0 YPC, versus this year's 70 YPG and 3.3 YPC.
