Cut Larry Donnell thread

est1986 : 10/23/2016 1:25 pm
This fucking guy, after showing promise early has been a absolute nightmare. He can go up and catch it with the very best.. But does anyone else get afraid watching him after the catch? It's either going to look like he has an easy first and he falls down short, or he jumps up and lands on his head, or he turns it over. Dude is "THE WORST" giants receiver "AFTER THE CATCH" I've seen by far. His blocking is equally bad he totally whiffs and misses assignments blocking. Odell is 6 inches shorter, 50 pounds lighter and can block better than Larry. Tye and Adams Have been better so far despite neither of them really doing anything either but Donnell is really, really bad. CUT HIM before the 1pm games are over.. Please and thanks.

He's bad at everything and a moron to boot. Enough
He's the only player I've ever watched in our uniform

Of Donnel and get a FB! PLay action is your friend.
Actually, Donnel isn' a horrible blocker, it is just that he tends to choose the wrong man to block.

There has to be a retired or FA TE out there who is slow as hell
Patrick77 : 10/23/2016 1:46 pm : link
Can catch and can block. I'd take that over him. At this point Jeremy Shockey drunk and coked out off the street couldn't be worse, could he?

He really does nothing well. Low IQ player, drops passes, fumbles constantly, not a great blocker.. really just useless.
I have to admit

Running out of bounds before he got the 1st down to avoid contact was just shameful for any football player let alone a tight end. He should have been cut then.
Just a losing type of player
Kyle in NY : 10/23/2016 1:54 pm : link
Nearly got Rainey destroyed for a safety when he just completely bypasses the LB he should be blocking. And this on top of the obvious ball security issues.

He's a risk to the rest of the team out there, got to move on.

the guy is a negative player, just like Rueben Randle...and yet, the coaches keep trotting these players out onto the field... blame Larry all you want, but it's the coach who lets him play and Eli keeps throwing to him.

If last week's 3rd down bail out wasn't bad enough to keep Donnell on the bench, nothing will.

Danny Kanell : 10/23/2016 2:00 pm : link
We have 2 weeks. He needs to be cut, move Tye and Adams up on the depth chart and find someone else out there. He's the worst player on this team.

is hard to call for someone's job to be eliminated, but I would cut him and pick up a street FB to help with the blocking. I do think this is his last year with the team, but I'd be stunned if that happened. We just aren't having a lot of luck at the position.

McAdoo doesn't want to use a roster spot on a FB. I thought people were joking about it last year but he actually stated he rather have two TEs sets with Tye as the H and Donnell as the receiver. I guess that was the role that Johnson was going to be. As I said that Johnson injury was a huge hit to this coach playbook.

Hope they take away his plane ticket

They don't just use Donnell strictly as a red zone weapon. He's of no use outside of the 10-15 yard line. Donnell should not be allllwed to run with the football. Period.
Tye, Adams,
Beezer : 10/23/2016 2:34 pm : link

Hell, Chris Cooley? lol

Even a fullback?

Donnell is a problem.

He should have been cut last week for his idiotic play. Now it's just mismanagement on the coaches and front office.

Well that's the thing, and I do think the reaction on this thread is a little harsh... though as I said above in my previous post, I agree that it's time to move on from him.

He has some skills. He's made some nice catches for us. He's a big target in the endzone (where you can't fumble!) and he does a good job finding soft spots in the zone and getting open around the marker. As a blocker, he's maybe a little below average but not a huge liability. I don't think he's "useless" as some have said.

But it's not just that he fumbles so much, it's that he continues to fumble in the same way... plowing into the ground head first and having no regard for the football. That to me shows he simply isn't going to improve and you just can not have a player out there who is going to continue to turn the ball over at such an an alarming rate.
He's terrible

If they insist on keeping him, I 100% agree with you. That's the only time he should see the field and it should be as a receiver only. I don't want to see him in pass pro in the red zone.

arcarsenal : 10/23/2016 3:26 pm : link
I don't see an excellent athlete with raw tools that you try to work with.. I don't see a really smart football player that you hope can overcome limited tools.. I don't see a great blocker who you are trying to develop as a pass catcher or vice versa.

What exactly are the Giants hoping Larry Donnell becomes?

I know he made a great catch to beat SF last year.. I know he had that 3 TD game against Washington in 2014.. but what else is there aside from a billion failed hurdles, awkward falls, dropped passes, blown assignments and fumbles? He sucks.
Donnell does something well
chris r : 10/23/2016 3:26 pm : link
he's very good redzone target - in fact our only large mismatch there.

He also doesn't get a turnover on every touch.

He is pretty awful overall though. I'd just use him in the redzone.

On that play today, I literally said out loud
Mad Mike : 10/23/2016 3:30 pm : link
