Were the Refs told to swallow their whistles

ZogZerg : 10/24/2016 8:20 am
yesterday's game because it was in London?

I'm thinking so. There were at least 3 PI penalties that weren't called, that would have been called the previous week. I think the NFL told the refs to minimize the whistles because they are selling the game to Great Britain.

What do you think BBI?

I think they may have been

Though I'm not sure it had much to do with London. It was refreshing to see.
not only that

but the Rams were decidedly less chippy than usual, and Odell was more subdued.

I think Goodell read them the riot act before the game, particularly with the Brown controversy. Sadly for the NFL, the Giants offensive line suckitude and Keenum's suckitude made for a bad product.

Seemed to me that commercial breaks were slightly less frequent and shorter. Not much, but once I noticed it, it seemed more obvious to me.
Those in attendance

were fortunate not to have to listen to Kevin Harlan.

I was going to say, "Well it made it boring and bad."

didn't even try to fuck up the kneeldown!
I really do not want to believe the league
pjcas18 : 10/24/2016 9:04 am : link
instructed an officiating crew to call less penalties in one specific game, in a market the league is actively courting purely to make the game seem more enjoyable to that market than it is to their hard core fan base.

So I am choosing not to believe that to be true.

I believe it's just wild inconsistency and even incompetence between officiating crews.
Well, may e in London but they didn't swallow them in the

in yesterday's Giant game either.

I agree that the refs were much quieter this week.
Could just be the crew

If the league Thinks swallowing the whistles makes for a better product which means more viewers why wouldn't they always swallow the whistles? Some crews let the guys play more then other crews do is probabaly the most likely explanation.
And commercials
Jesse B : 10/24/2016 9:25 am : link
Are set by the networks right? not the NFL. I think there were less commercials because it was on at 930 in the morning on NFL network and not prime time Sunday viewing

but I got a kick out of the NFL Network calling this game "Thursday Night Special". They couldn't come up with something else to call it like "Sunday in London"?

I said the same thing. I usually go to church and I never watch the Sunday Morning game.
The NFL being cheep

They choose to just use the Thursday night graphics.

I did find it odd, but just looked past it.
Yeah it seemed pretty apparent of that

They are use to watching 45 Mins straight of soccer action before any commercials and extended stoppage in Europe

Not odd or cheap. They do it to try and promote the Thursday games.

And delays of less than 10 seconds, you better not stop for 2 minute replays.

I would not be surprised that the officials got the message to keep it moving.
All of NFL Network's games are basically Thursday Night Football
glowrider : 10/24/2016 6:11 pm : link
Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. So stupid to brand a game with the day unless it is that day.

christian : 10/24/2016 6:34 pm : link
The NFL Network uses their other games to build equity in the Thursday Night brand. It's neither cheap or ineffective, at least not on this group.
