Pro Football Talk reports the 49ers are willing to trade LT Joe Staley for a first-round pick.
Cant imagine anyone would trade a 1st round pick but in lieu of the discussion about Joe Thomas below I figured this would be a better alternative option. Staley is a beast when healthy and just turned 30 an has played all 16 games 5 seasons in a row.
Not one to be all over unrealistic trades and signings but could be a player to keep Eli healthy for remainder of the season.
I'll be honest - if we're looking at deals, I'm more interested in trying to find a legit TE and/or a fullback than trying to solve LT, where I still believe Flowers will be a viable option after he's had a bit more time in the system.
Being that we are not contenders, but would benefit from shoring up the OL, Reese should toss out 4th rounders on either with the pick being upgraded if conditions are met (health maintained and playoff qualifiers).
I still wouldn't give them a first given Davis's lack of dedication to football (or at least what that seems to be). Firsts are way too valuable. I'd give them 3rd straight up which I'd doubt they will take.
Nobody wants Nassib and we wouldn't get a future 7th rounder for him.

Just wondering BBI's opinions on Nassib and his value. His value may have taken a hit this year because he didn't look great in preseason. But would he even bring any sort of relative value in a midseason trade?

I feel about the same, however not even a 7th? I think you could find a team to give up a 7th for him either because of stupidity or desperation.
He would "only" make about $5.5MM in each of the following two years, but that's still a lot for a player who will be 34/35. Offensive linemen who remain upper-tier much past 30 seem to be getting rarer.
Dorian Thompson has something to say about this. If he can stay on the field at least.
Whoops 32, saw his bday Aug 30th and got mixed up.
I like this game!
Hi Mr Mara,
Why haven't you allowed JR to spend high picks on OL?

with the hole plugging and overspending and fire Reese, or give him a year to fix the oline. Use draft to do it.

Being stuck in 2013 might be the only way to explain it.

The flip side (from a cap perspective) is that you can cut the player with (usually) no dead money. So if his play falls off a cliff, they're not on the hook for any bonus money.
Nassib might get a conditional seventh, but at this point I wouldn't be surprised if there's no interest in him. The Giants picked up Johnson right at the end of the preseason, which was frankly a damning indictment of Nassib. That certainly lowers whatever minimal trade value he had. He'll get some vet minimum offers in the offseason with a few incentives, but I don't think he has any trade value.

Let's put Larry Donnell on the block for a first round pick. We do a one-for-one, and picks offset.

Larry is worth more than a first rounder....should also toss in a player to be named later....

$8.25MM in salary, plus $700K in roster and workout bonuses. That contract sets his trade value pretty low, except maybe to a team that is clearly a LT away from strong Super Bowl contention.

And presumably the cost controlled 22/23 year old that wouldn't be on the team.
Its a huge risk. If he was a few years younger I'd be all over it but we just got over handing out big contracts to aging players, not sure why we'd go back on that unless the price falls significantly.
I know itd smack against Reeses(and EFs ) ego and pride, but a better functioning offense and Apple/D Thompson likely back for the D, this is a good team.
If Im Reese Im on the phone to both Cl and SF, start with an offer a pick down with a conditional '18 pick and let THEM fight it out to see who bites.
If both fall through use Beatty some; if one bites then they can start working EF for RT.
All that said, we know JR won't do it.
Of course, the past should not influence what you do in the present. But in reality it does.
If Reese trades a second for either guy and Giants fall flat, he will be crucified. Could be the straw that loses him his job, in fact.

Okung is a "cripple" and Penn was headed to NY to meet with us, but the Raiders, whom he wanted to stay with, signed him before he got on the plane..So how is that again?
Pump your brakes tough guy. Last three 2nds were Shepard, Landon and Richburg....all starters.
It's like selling a car you don't really have to sell but will gladly part with it at the right (over) price.
They didn't even give away Anthony Davis, who is nothing compared to Staley.
I don't agree with it. Staley is still a top 5 LT in this league. Run block, pass block and even has a few receptions to his name.
