Well, we liked those guys we had to waive, Hornacek said Saturday. Its a tough thing to do. All these guys are capable players. We have to look at our roster and see the different balance that we have. Chasson, hes done a great job for us. We hope all these guys get other jobs and other teams pick them up, but our hope is if he doesnt go to another team he stays with our organization. We really liked what he did for us.

For now, Mitch McGary is hoping to resume career in China or Europe, sources tell @TheVertical. Wherever he plays, he has issues to resolve.

Vertical Sources: Oklahoma City plans to waive Mitch McGary and Ronnie Price ($5M guaranteed), keep rookie Semaj Christon on final roster.
hunter looks like he can be a kyle korver type of player...
havnt seen enough of him to comment of his defense
And get rid of whom?

He's not a great athlete so I can't imagine he's a great defender but for "free" might be worth looking at. Celtics are unusually deep so him being waived doesn't necessarily mean he's not a potential NBA rotation guy. Thing with him is, he shot well from 3 as a Frosh and Soph (38%) and then JR year only 31% and last year in the dleague 30%, with Boston also 30% so that hurt. On the plus side a very good Celtics team liked him enough to give him burn as a rookie including 10 minutes per game in the playoffs.

I personally don't think much of Plumlee, Vujacicor NDour so either one. NDour is very slight for a 4 and doesn't have the skillset of a 3. They are going to keep Vujacic because they "have to" with only 2 other PG's on the roster but I'd just as soon let Baker be the 3rd PG and pick up Hunter.
R.J. Hunter is a wiry, 6-foot-6 shooting guard with unlimited range and a 6-foot-10 wingspan. He needs to put on weight but is stronger than he looks. Hunter is a coachs son who has a high basketball IQ. He also wants the ball in the clutch (and excels in the clutch), and thats an intriguing combo. His wingspan and quick release make it extremely difficult to challenge and/or affect his shot. Hes ready to contribute in the NBA at the offensive end right now. Hes a fantastic shooter with a quick and clean release, who is very good at reading defenders off of screens. I love that he always gets his shoulders squared to the basket in catch-and-shoot opportunities. He does, however, need to improve his use of screens. Hes likely to play off the ball at the next level and those screens will be his greatest ally. He settled a bit this year, allowing defenses (which keyed in on him) to push him far away from the basket. That resulted in a rougher-than-expected shooting season, but Im not concerned with that. He can and will make shots. Hunters quick feet and instincts allow him to change direction very well. That will translate to his ability to free himself for shots in the NBA, and it also indicates that he can become a good defender. He has a very good handle with both hands but likes to take the ball off the dribble to his left. There is a heavy tendency for him to finish almost exclusively with his right hand around the basket. He does show some jitters in traffic, as things seem to speed up on him. However, when the floor is spaced, he has proven to be a very capable passer and playmaker. Hunter has quick feet and good hands but does not display lateral quickness and change of direction at the defensive end, which is unique and worrisome. He proved at the Draft Combine testing that he has great lateral quickness, but it doesnt show face on defense, which leads me to believe that his instincts might not be on par with his athleticism. He also doesnt always give maximum effort at the defensive end and gazes at the ball when the opponent takes a shot, rather than boxing out or attacking the glass. He needs to keep his center of gravity lower and not over-stride, which should help that lateral quickness show face. He must also eliminate his tendency to gamble on steal attempts and bite on shot fakes. Defensively, I believe the ability is there, he just needs to bring it out. Getting maximum effort out of Hunter and cleaning up his defensive mechanics both of which I believe are attainable goals should help him to become a capable defender in the NBA.

Ok, I could see that. I'd guess that NDour is the guy they'd get rid of. I just wonder if they can keep Vujacic, Baker and Hunter on a roster. That's a lot of guards, especially if they want to bring back Randle. But, perhaps Hornacek would like to go small.
But he's talented enough to try and figure something out.

Confirming @JakeLFischer, the Sixers cutting Brandon Paul. He's received interest from other NBA teams, no talks of Sixers D-Lg, per source.
+1. You couldnt trade 1/4 or more of this roster for the right to swap #2s. Literally.
If BOS is cutting guys because they just had too many picks, it's worth looking hard at their castoffs. But I know nothing about Hunter since he turned pro.
Still, If Noah goes down our options are Willy, KOQ, and Porz. That's not shabby, and Im ignoring Plumlee on purpose. If Rose goes down, it's Jennings and then what? Where are you getting 13-18 minutes a game to spell Jennings? Sasha? Baker? Come on. I'd cut Plumlee or Ndour. I mean I like Ndour, but he's a 4, and we have a ton of guys who can play some 4 (KP, Melo, KOQ, Thomas, Cheese at least). Do we need a 6th PF or do we need a 3rd PG?

I 100% agree but I also disagree with this being a way to defend Sasha remaining here over "better" talent. Should we need major ie consistent 15+ minutes per night over an extended period with Sasha running the offense we are in some trouble. He's only a "PG" because at one point he played with Kobe in an offense without the need for him to run an offense. He can shoot a decent 3 ball, that's his skillset now. He should be your emergency PG if he's on the team at all not 1 injury away from major minutes.
-"The mechanics on his set shot look good...
This is somewhat new information, as in the past Archie's shot mechanics haven't looked particularly solid. This could be the result of off-season work we know he did with Jeff Hornacek."

He's a FA?
I'd take Archie Goodwin. He's hardly a PG or a shooter but he's a freak athlete.
can't cut Baker ... our last link to the '70s!

I dont expect a win toniight but as the season goes on i think knicks match up well with thr cavs...
it is going to be funny to see melo react to how his team plays lebron because noah and rose absolutely hate him, jennings and shumpert hate eaxh other..

Yes. If the Knicks can be competitive, this can be a fun game for sure because of the personalities.

love herring, tells it like it is with no agenda
Our best depth is already at the 4/5. Noah, Porz, KOQ, Willy, Plumlee and then our collection of swing forwards: Melo, Thomas, Cheese, and Ndour. Plus my sense is that there are always more available NBADL bigs who are playable than smalls. We need more depth at the 1-2-3.
Barber
Goodwin
McGary (though I realize he has off court issues)
Ray McCallum
Was bummed Staukas made the Sixers. There were heavy rumors he might be waived and while he's been a turd he would have been a nice buy low.
Yi Jianlin was waived
To all the patient Knicks Fans, its been a long, long time since we've had something to really feel good about! Let's Go Knicks!

Honestly, as someone who is skeptical of our moves and advocated a full tear down... what the fuck is the market for this kind of writing? It's not merely negative. Every word is dripping with assholery. Berman finds a way to infuse an attack into almost every sentence.
How does he have a job? Who is his editor? This is pathetic.
you know what this game reminds me of? when the knicks played the heat right after the melo trade...
same kind of feel
It's beyond parody. Everything the Knicks do is wrong, everything is always horrible, they will never improve, etc.

the funny thing is if melo was traded to chicago, everyone would be saying how the bulls can beat the cavs and are a real threat but because its the knicks no chance...
look at 2012, knicks were said to be to old and were not going to do anything and even with winning 54 games they are still shitted on as a lucky team

I suspect a model would have lots of problems with our team. It's nice for fans to look at our starting 5 and recognize the talent even if they're honest about the very likely permanent fall off in Rose's game. But fans spend less time thinking about the fact that 3 of the starters are 31 or older. Or factoring in missed time (Melo and KP missed 10 games each in "healthy" seasons; Noah has missed 70 games over 2 seasons; and Rose is Rose).
In my opinion the Knicks have the talent to be well into the 40s in wins. Frankly, at full health they have talent to be at 50 wins maybe (depth is still a huge issue). But there is so little chance the injury gods will smile on us. We took big risks on injury prone and 30+ players.
Not that hard if you think that Rose is shot and wont play much, and that Noah isnt an upgrade over Lopez due to some combo of DNPs and Noah's game falling off (obviously Noah pre-injury was better than Lopez).

better this year.

Well, the Knicks had the worst backcourt in basketball last year. A shot Rose + Lee is better than what they had. And Jennings improves the second unit backcourt. Even if Noah doesn't match Lopez because of injury, you can offset that with some expectation that KP will be better.
But yeah, it could all go to shit, I suppose. This is the Knicks.
538 assesses him as going from 2.4 WAR to 5.5 WAR @ 50th percentile, 10 WAR at 90th percentile. It's worth noting that 538 admits that KP breaks their model. They have no idea what he is.
Before the season opener in Cleveland, the Cavs will be presented with their championship rings. What do you anticipate feeling while you're watching that?
Well my approach will be the same. Just knowing what's at stake there--knowing that they're getting their rings. I wish the NBA would let them get their rings the day before, you know what I'm saying? Like I don't know who came up with that rule that you get your rings at the first game.

Bad for the Knicks beat for sure. Good for fivethirtyeight though.
