NFT: Knicks Chat: Hornacek hopes Randle returns

DanMetroMan : 10/24/2016 12:16 pm
“Well, we liked those guys we had to waive,” Hornacek said Saturday. “It’s a tough thing to do. All these guys are capable players. We have to look at our roster and see the different balance that we have. Chasson, he’s done a great job for us. We hope all these guys get other jobs and other teams pick them up, but our hope is if he doesn’t go to another team he stays with our organization. We really liked what he did for us.“

I think they're about a .500 team,

but they sure could go either way depending upon injuries (35-45 wins). I'll go with Berman's 41 win prediction, even though he's a dick.

I suspect a model would have lots of problems with our team. It's nice for fans to look at our starting 5 and recognize the talent even if they're honest about the very likely permanent fall off in Rose's game. But fans spend less time thinking about the fact that 3 of the starters are 31 or older. Or factoring in missed time (Melo and KP missed 10 games each in "healthy" seasons; Noah has missed 70 games over 2 seasons; and Rose is Rose).

In my opinion the Knicks have the talent to be well into the 40s in wins. Frankly, at full health they have talent to be at 50 wins maybe (depth is still a huge issue). But there is so little chance the injury gods will smile on us. We took big risks on injury prone and 30+ players.
It's just hard to imagine that the Knicks will only be three games

Not that hard if you think that Rose is shot and wont play much, and that Noah isnt an upgrade over Lopez due to some combo of DNPs and Noah's game falling off (obviously Noah pre-injury was better than Lopez).

Well, the Knicks had the worst backcourt in basketball last year. A shot Rose + Lee is better than what they had. And Jennings improves the second unit backcourt. Even if Noah doesn't match Lopez because of injury, you can offset that with some expectation that KP will be better.

But yeah, it could all go to shit, I suppose. This is the Knicks.
Also we had 32 wins last year
Deej : 10/25/2016 3:18 pm : link
so the o/u is +6.5 over last season
On the other hand, it's hard to accurately assess how much

538 assesses him as going from 2.4 WAR to 5.5 WAR @ 50th percentile, 10 WAR at 90th percentile. It's worth noting that 538 admits that KP breaks their model. They have no idea what he is.
Should note
Deej : 10/25/2016 3:54 pm : link
last year their model was 50% accurate to within one WAR and 80% accurate to within 2 WAR.
the coach may

trying to understand this controversy. It's not as if the Cavs beat the Knicks or that the Knicks have even been rivals of the Cavs/contenders. Why should the Cavs getting their rings bother the Knicks? I'm confused.

Before the season opener in Cleveland, the Cavs will be presented with their championship rings. What do you anticipate feeling while you're watching that?
Well my approach will be the same. Just knowing what's at stake there--knowing that they're getting their rings. I wish the NBA would let them get their rings the day before, you know what I'm saying? Like I don't know who came up with that rule that you get your rings at the first game.
I'm not surprised that he breaks their model
Greg from LI : 10/25/2016 5:13 pm : link
He's unique. Can't really think of a single player who compares to him.

Bad for the Knicks beat for sure. Good for fivethirtyeight though.
