How much is Vereen missed?

oldutican : 10/25/2016 9:17 am
I don't see anyone talking about this. I know Vereen had some costly fumbles, but seems to me he is their best back out of the shotgun. He was averaging 4.7 yds per carry. Jennings is at 2.7. And Vereen is best catching passes. I'm not saying he would make the run game a strength, but he has quickness and vision others seem to lack.
He's missed a lot.

Beyond that, what's there to talk about?
I don't think his loss is that great.
Brown Recluse : 10/25/2016 9:21 am : link
He had a good game vs Washington but so did Orleans Darkwa.

Thats no knock on Vereen. I like him. But I don't think the drop off from him to Rainey is that significant and Perkins will most likely prove to be better than them both.
the trust of him on the field is gone

as well as his ability, but we also just don't use him properly so i'm not sure how much we really do miss him. Our whole offense is so out of sync that i'm not sure him being on the team right now would even matter.
He was a nice piece
Metnut : 10/25/2016 9:25 am : link
for us despite the fumbles. Hopefully he can come back down the stretch and add another dimension to the offense.
UConn I disagree
Stu11 : 10/25/2016 9:25 am : link
last season they totally misused him, but through 3 games this season they seemed to really be figuring out how to use him best. They miss him a lot, but I think Perkins can be worked in effectively into a similar role as the season goes on.
nice piece but personally

I feel like the vereen injury allowed perkins to enter the lineup. After the bye week i expect perk to be a big part of the offensive backfield
If we can put some wins together

hopefully he can come back. I think he needs to wait until week 11

I imagine Vereen's fumbling was the result of playing with a torn tricep.

He's one of the few guys eligible to come off IR. I hope he makes it back.

How long was he playing with it?

christian : 10/25/2016 9:44 am : link
I don't think that was confirmed, but Macadoo said he had been playing with it.
i'm not
Les in TO : 10/25/2016 9:46 am : link
sure our offense would have been significantly better the last few weeks the way we have run blocked.
Anybody have a real injury update?
SLIM_ : 10/25/2016 9:54 am : link
I thought he tore his tricep and was out for the year. I heard Dottino speak yesterday and he said he expects to be back this year. Others have said the same on this post.

You could be right, didn't realize he had almost 40 touches in the first 3 games of the year.
I think Rainey could be as productive as Vereen
Ivan15 : 10/25/2016 11:13 am : link
but they haven't been getting him the ball in a position where he can do something with it. He is moving laterally away from the QB instead of facing downfield when he gets the ball.
Isn't Vereen still leading the Giants in rushing?

?
From the NFL.com article on the injury.

While McAdoo said the surgery would end Vereen's 2016 campaign, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports that might not actually be the case, per two sources informed of the prognosis and the team's plans. Vereen's recovery time is six to eight weeks and depending on what the Giants do with him and their IR spots, Vereen might return to action for them this year, Garafolo added.

Remember how bad Eli looked
Thunderstruck27 : 10/25/2016 12:31 pm : link
in the games after Vereen got injured? I think there is a slight correlation
While Vereen
Doomster : 10/25/2016 2:10 pm : link
may have been a nice accessory to the offense, I don't think he is missed that much.....
He has been missed
Matt M. : 10/25/2016 2:15 pm : link
But, I also think playing Perkins more will make us forget Vereen is out.
Vereen
Fish : 10/25/2016 4:06 pm : link
was nothing special. Giants offense would be in same situation today if he was still active. If it was Tiki Barber then thats a different story. Vereen not even close to a Tiki type back and thats what he was brought in for.
The idea that Giants misused Vereen is nonsense.
Devon : 10/25/2016 4:17 pm : link
He had the best year of his career catching the ball last year here -- most yards, most TDs, best catch % on his most targets.

They do very much miss him now because they have no replacement for him, he's a good player in role that could help greatly against how defenses are playing them, but it's clear some people think he's always been the guy from the Pats' last SB week in and week out and that's not remotely the case.
He's missed, BUT
David B. : 10/25/2016 9:34 pm : link
His absence ain't the problem.
Doesn't Rainey do
section125 : 10/25/2016 9:57 pm : link
the same thing?
