that he was overrated were laughable. Fantastic player, if the Chargers weren't foolishly cheap and had him in there from the start they might have won a few of those early games they blew
I a torn because I watch Zeke Elliott and think fuck, Emmitt Smith all over again. You know he's going to run, you're in the right defense for it and so what, 5 yards when you stuff him. So demoralizing.
but then I watch Bosa and I'm kind of glad the Cowboys didn't take him. He'd eat the Giants OL alive.
But what I did see of him in college looked mighty impressive. I was surprised to see so many people not think he'd be an impact player because I saw a guy who just looked absolutely relentless and nearly impossible to get out of a play.
Tiny sample... he could turn out to be nothing special. But I'm not terribly surprised by what he's doing so far.
He's fresh and hasn't hit that wall yet. If he does. Fine start though
I have no idea what this means. He's "fresh"? If anything that makes how he's playing more impressive since he had limited practice and zero pre-season.
And what is that "wall". I don't think the Chargers have to worry about a 21 year old in world class shape getting tired.

Weird post. Bosa is awesome.
Fresh legs..Not worn out from camp, pre-season games and the first 4 regular season games
The rookie wall often alluded to with College players who play the 10-11 game season with no preseason games and the additional 5-6 regular season games beyond college
seems to me like a decided disadvantage to have no preseason and almost no practice. I would have thought it would take him 3 or 4 games minimum to even be a blip on the radar.
But what I did see of him in college looked mighty impressive. I was surprised to see so many people not think he'd be an impact player because I saw a guy who just looked absolutely relentless and nearly impossible to get out of a play.

Completely agree. Obviously saw a lot of him up close being at OSU, but some of the scouting reports from our draft "gurus" here looking at sack totals or other factors that really didn't matter were just silly. This isn't a surprise, he was a dominant player right from the start in college as well.

Ever the contrarian on anything not Giants :P
I never purposely try to be contrarian. I call it as I see it..I was called that during our OTAs and minicamps when I constantly opined that culling anything meaningful from them compared to how they might perform in pads and with contact during the season was a futile exercise, imo..Then when the season starts, I'm called a homer..😎

Possible, but Strahan and others who missed camp through the years benefitted greatly from not taxing their bodies before the season starts..YES, they are vets and do not need to be brought anywhere up to the speed that rookies do, but I was just referring to the physical aspect of it..
You know me, I always prefer to wait to see how the full slate plays out, but I did say he was off to a fine start..Perhaps fine isn't strong enough, how about great start?
in the least, but is he being helped by a good pass rush from the other 3 on the DL?
And, for a team that looked worse than us in pre-season, they are pretty good so far.
But I think what happened is that his combine numbers were fine, but nothing special, so he was downgraded. I don't know how anyone could watch him play and not think that he was going to shine at the next level.
37 carries for 161 yards (4.4 ypc)
5 rec for 70 yards (14 ypr)
Murray's on pace for ~380 touches, so they might try and increase Henry's workload down the stretch.
Either way, if a RB has lived up to their hype it's Elliott. He's on track to break the rookie NFL rushing record. I don't think getting 37 carries is Henry living up to the hype. He could, but so far it's an incomplete for him IMO.
But I think what happened is that his combine numbers were fine, but nothing special, so he was downgraded. I don't know how anyone could watch him play and not think that he was going to shine at the next level.
He couldn't have been downgraded that much right? He did go third, after all.
Watch him play if you haven't seen him. Obviously Bosa had a stronger pedigree entering the league, but watching his pass rush moves and run d, I think he could be very Strahan-like.
The QB fell at his feet after about 5 seconds and after others on SD pressured the QB.
Watch this 2+ min video of Bosa's debut, these are great sacks and the TFL is impressive, plus the downfield speed to catch Cooper. No idea why anyone would try and minimize this effort or production of his first two sacks.
Hopefully you watch again and get a better appreciation for it, no one fell at his feet. He crushed Carr on that first sacks and ran him down on the second one. Link - ( New Window )
When JPP has a game like that, KWALL is all over it telling everyone how much they underrate him.
That said, his 1st sack was pretty 'weak'. He cleaned up after the rest of his line got pressure and turned Carr around.
The 2nd one was legit though. He got the initial pressure off the edge and forced Carr up into the pocket. Then after Carr had to scramble from the pocket, Bosa recovers to clean up the play.

Cleaned up is fair, though Bosa crushed Carr, so "the QB fell at his feet" conjures up images of Favre/Strahan and even if the first sack was aided by the pass rush of his teammates the Bosa "clean up" was severe.
He got 2 sacks. Nothing impressive about either one. Any guy off the street would have picked up these 2 sacks. But he was on pace for 20 so he's awesome!
And the Giants DE? Worst pass rushers in the league I hear on BBI. Were lucky they've been covered by guys like Wade and Adams playing so strong in the back.
RE: Actually I used the Bosa sacks when they happened

Well I don't think any guys off the street could have picked up those sacks nor did they, but whatever and I have never made one comment about any Giants pass rusher.
but I'll leave you to your opinion.
That's a pretty impressive debut, even more for a rookie who missed all of training camp.
Thanks for the video. Both late sacks as I remembered. First one the QB was in fetal position. Next he was hit by another and trying to get away. Both sacks at about 5 seconds.
Not ripping the player. Just the fans posting about sacks numbers after such a small sample especially after the first 2 were team sacks.
It's what we here about our guys. Not getting sacks and a waste of $200 million. And its BS.
A DE may play a 1000 snaps. If he falls into a few sacks like Bosa did in that first game the sack numbers can be misleading. That is all. Our DEs are playing very good 2-ball and the only thing most talk about is the sack numbers. It sucks.
But I think what happened is that his combine numbers were fine, but nothing special, so he was downgraded. I don't know how anyone could watch him play and not think that he was going to shine at the next level.
What happened is that his 40 yard time was blah. And that got a lot of the focus because it's the simplest, most media-friendly number.
But his agility/change of direction numbers (3-cone/shuttle) were very good for a DL of his size.

Saying he "was trying to get away" is like saying Bromley earned his sack this past weekend. In Bromley's case, he was the recipient of Keenum stepping up after quick pressure from Vernon. In the Chargers case, Bosa had the initial pressure and then after the DT failed to record the "Bromley sack", Bosa also cleaned up the play.
The first one I agree with you about. Nothing impressive about Bosa on that play. In fact Bosa only gets the sack because he was stonewalled at the LOS.
And I'm definitely not one to bash JPP/Vernon for their lack of sacks. I've had several posts about Vernon playing great this past weekend (drew a holding, made the initial pressure on the Bromley sack, and forced at least one of the INTs).
I thought he was 'downgraded' (is going #3 really a downgrade?) because of reports that he liked to 'party' too much like the DE the Pats traded to the Cards (can't think of his name).

But then he became underrated because of "just because he's white doesn't mean he's JJ Watt" talk.
As if not being JJ Watt means you aren't worthy of a Top 5 pick. Talented guy with a nice start to his career, but it's early.

Whether people want to admit it or not - preconceived notions about the athletic ability of large white men are real, haha.

They're in a tough division (best in football?), but the Chargers could easily be 6-1 now. Wager they bounce back to compete for a WC.

Yes, an impressive start..
I don't see them getting a playoff spot unless they can turn fortune quickly. KC, OAK and DEN are no easy wins.
And, for a team that looked worse than us in pre-season, they are pretty good so far.
I don't get this comment.
Did the Giants have the opportunity to draft Bosa? I seem to recall they picked 10th in the draft.
but thanks

No they didn't. I'm just being an ass.
You're welcome. =)
Henry? do you mean Elliott? I don't think Henry has done much with Demarco Murray excelling and not giving him much opportunity.
37 carries for 161 yards (4.4 ypc)
5 rec for 70 yards (14 ypr)
Murray's on pace for ~380 touches, so they might try and increase Henry's workload down the stretch.

Or Ramsey. So glad they didn't take him.
If we say overall, he is a lot like Aldon Smith, but I'm assuming his lack of pigment makes that difficult to see.....

Another example that those numbers are often more telling. When combined with productivity on the field, of course.
