Looking ahead at the schedule

est1986 : 10/25/2016 11:32 pm
We have three straight weeks of home games
Philadelphia (4-2)
Cincinnati (3-4)
Chicago (1-6)

Then we have two on the road in the AFC North
Cleveland (0-7)
Pittsburgh (4-3)

Then our final two home games of the season
Dallas (5-1)
Detroit (4-3)

Finishing with two division games on the road
Philadelphia (4-2)
Washington (4-3)

I think we beat Philadelphia next Sunday, can't wait to see our guys get after Wentz. Eagles are still suspect in the secondary, Beckham, Cruz, Shepard and Eli better be on their A game and take advantage.

Conceivable all four teams end up with winning records.
adamg : 10/26/2016 12:36 am : link
It'll be an interesting race.
Said this when the team was 2-3
giantgiantfan : 10/26/2016 12:58 am : link
That we needed to go on a 3 game win streak to save the season. This Philly game is the season. Can't drop to 1-2 in the division and 4-4 overall. That's garbage. Need to be 2-1 in division sitting at 5-3. Chicago and Cleveland can get us to 7 wins. Find another 3, preferable 2 in division.
Giants win 3 in a row

at home
If McAdoo is planning to give up playcalling
BlackLight : 10/26/2016 2:54 am : link
the Philly game is a great opportunity to do it. Division rival that's already familiar with us, sure to scout us for our tendencies - turning the keys over to someone else may well give us an edge.
I think when they self scout
joeinpa : 10/26/2016 3:29 am : link
Their. Ias will allow them to see what they want to see. MacAdoo isn t giving up calling the plays
Should say
joeinpa : 10/26/2016 5:48 am : link
That when they self scout they see what they want to see.
No doubt,

The Philly game sets the stage for the rest of the season....

Giants have to show they can beat teams with winning records......Yes, they beat Dallas, by one second, with a qb playing his first game in the NFL....but until they do it consistently, they will just be a middle of the pack team....

This game is a confidence builder for the rest of the season, followed by 3 games with teams with a losing record.....games they have to win....and if this team starts beating teams they should beat, they have a shot at the playoffs....

Let's take a quick inventory of where they are
UberAlias : 10/26/2016 8:27 am : link
They are 4-3 by way of a 1-3 record against teams with winning records and 3-0 against teams .500 or below.

Scoring offense is 22nd in the league and scoring defense is 10th.

So what is holding them back? I think most assume lack of a running game is holding back the potential of the offense, and I would agree. They are last in the league in rushing yards per game. What makes this particularly troubling is that this offense for the most part looks to take what the defense gives them. That means that the 3.3 yards per carry average is despite favorable fronts.

The team's top rusher currently is Shane Vereen, the 3rd down back who's been out a few weeks, and oh, yeah, is averaging a full 2 yards a carry more than Jennings (4.7 to 2.7).

I think there are some obvious things they need to do, but I'm not going to get into that now. Let's see what they do with the bye week. The HC keeps saying all things will be evaluated, let's see if he really means this.
Washington..
FatMan in Charlotte : 10/26/2016 8:56 am : link
still has to play GB, MIN and AZ.

They have the roughest schedule remaining.
LOL..

I love the qualifiers that are always put on a win.

I like how it isn't that they've handed dallas their only loss, at home, in a game that the Giants had never beaten them for a season opener.

Instead it is extreme luck - by one second - against a rookie QB, etc.

Funny, when we lose by a second, don't you usually rant that we need to take a hard look at the coach, the GM and the players and then dissect all the minutia to pin blame?

Since that one is on the books now, do you think the Giants can beat them right now with the current offensive play?
Of course I do..
FatMan in Charlotte : 10/26/2016 9:38 am : link
the offensive play looks a lot worse when you factor in turnovers. Against Dallas, they sustained enough drives to score and their D focused on shutting down the run. Without Bryant at 100%, Dallas is beatable, but teams are getting mauled in the running game.

People make it sound like we are looking at a terrible offense and one that can't do anything. The lack of a running game is worrisome, but in this system, it is de-emphasized.

We can beat any team in the division.

The flip side is that any team in the division can beat us, too.

I agree with you. The key to beating Dallas is stopping their running game. Period. We have a D that can focus on that.

I truly believe our O will right itself eventually. They are more talented now than at any time in the last 2 years, when Eli and the offense thrived. To me, McAdoo needs to hand over the offense to Sullivan, including playcalling. I feel, as the HC, he is gameplanning and calling plays not to lose. The offense, for example, was implemented to counter the weak running game and poor pass protection. And it successfully did just that for 2 years. Now, with better WRs we are taking that concept to the extreme by mostly dumping the ball. There is no creativity and no rhyme or reason to how we try to establish the running game. They keep calling the same few plays. that is fine when nobody is stopping you. When they constantly get stuffed, you need to try new things. Where is the misdirection? More motion of TEs and WRs? Bunch formations? TE in the backfield as a lead blocker?
Realistically, Minnesota was the only team
Matt M. : 10/26/2016 10:15 am : link
I didn't expect to beat. This team is capable of beating every other team in the NFC, right now. As FatMan points out, though, a lot of those teams are also capable of beating us.

For me, it wasn't so much that we lost to Minny and Green Bay, but how we lost. We looked completely outlcassed, which I don't think is the case on paper. But, the one loss that will haunt them is Washington. They gave that game away to an inferior team in the division and conference.
to me
djm : 10/26/2016 10:24 am : link
it all boils down to philly after the bye week. Take the schedules and throw them in the garbage. Beat Philly. Then we can talk.

Yes. Talk about a must win.
Beat Philly?
exiled : 10/26/2016 10:48 am : link
When does this team EVER beat the Eagles?
That schedule isn't so bad
Patrick77 : 10/26/2016 10:52 am : link
If they can beat Philly twice imo they can win the division. At worst I see 7-9. Washington should lose a few. It comes down to being able to match up with the eagles and cowboys. Pittsburg is winnable, Cincinnati is a team I always overrate.

We have to beat Philly twice
est1986 : 10/26/2016 11:40 am : link
And Dallas and Washington. Get those 4 plus Cleveland and Chicago and that should do it with a little luck.
Eagles
jc in c-ville : 10/26/2016 11:40 am : link
And Redskins schedule going forward is much tougher than Dallas/ours.

Anything less than 6-3
est1986 : 10/26/2016 11:41 am : link
The rest of the way and we are shit out of luck and out of the playoffs.

Would be nice, but I just don't see us sweeping the rest of the division games. It'll probably be 2-2 vs. 4-0.
