The Reds just retired his number in June, and he was there for the ceremony. Also, he was in the stadium for the All-Star game that year that Jim Gray ambushed him.

Ah...I thought part of his ban was stadiums and baseball functions. Thanks.
suspect had Rose only been found to be gambling (even on baseball) but not his own team (or his teams games) his suspension would have been lifted by now.

The penalty for gambling on games in which you're not involved is only a one-year suspension, so unless there had been some reason to extend it, it would've been lifted a long time ago.

Mike,
Thanks. I had no idea it was only a 1 year bar. Even if it's your own sport? He certainly committed the cardinal sin.

Yes, that's the rule for betting on baseball games you're not involved in. I'm not sure what the rule is about betting on other sports (I don't even know if it's prohibited if it's done legally).
but didn't he bet on his OWN team to WIN? I would never condone betting in your own sport or team, but (again if my above statement is correct) he bet them to win....win that is. I know he has been further digging his own hole the past few years, but can't MLB just move past this and let one the best players of all time in the HOF. He didn't cheat. Am I way off here?
Way off, imo. When you bet on your own team as manager
you can make moves you wouldn't ordinarily make to win your bet...leave a BP ace in longer, for example. Your priority may be to win your bet at the detriment of your team.
It also lets bookies know which bets to lay off and which to keep. Not cool.

So he says he only bet on them to win. This from the guy who spent years straight faced lying about betting at all.
Dont Bet on It - ( New Window )

I don't know of anyone else who ever was accused of doing that

Then he thought he could get back in by confessing.
He's nothing but s self absorbed jerk.
