It came out of the Syracuse Post Standard a couple of days ago. It said that "unlike 'el Nino' we had last year, this year we will get what is called a 'la Nino'. What that means is that the temperature might be warmer than average or it could mean cooler than average. As far as snow goes, we could get more snow than average or less snow than average". I shook my head and said, "WTF???"
I couldn't believe that some weatherman actually said that or that the paper actually printed it. It's like a joke on SNL Weekend Update or something. The information was so useless that it was literally a waste of time to read. Almost as stupid as when the weathermen say there's a 50% chance of rain (translation, it's just as apt to rain as not...duhhh)
I've been joking for years that I want to be a weatherman when I grow up ...
What other occupation would tolerate someone being wrong 50% of the time ??

Nice!
That's awesome
As far as La Nina is concerned (not La Nino), yes, there is widespread disagreement as to how it will affect local weather. El Nino patterns are much more consistent, but even there, differences at the border of various weather patterns are often enormous. For La Nina, note that there are huge swaths of the country for which the impact is highly uncertain--including the Northeast.
It's amazing how much ignorance you packed into such a short statement. Kudos!
Then we also have a nutjob spewing conspiracy nonsense. BBI is in rare form tonight!

Santa Claus isn't real either. Sry to wreck your world and hope the Great Pumpkin saves you.
It's an analogy of speculation not a direct comparison of apples and oranges skippy.
So long, El Nino; hello, La Nina: What does that mean for winter in Upstate NY? - ( New Window )

I've been offshore when the weather service was saying the seas were 9 ft and they weren't even 9 inches.
Best to look at the radar and figure it out for yourself
Wow, just wow.
I feel terrible for the OP's teachers. Those book reports must've been something else. 'Like, Holden lost the fencing gear and worried about ducks all the time, stupid stuff like that.'
