The Giants are the only team still on the radar screen. But even that is a long shot because the Giants don’t seem to be inclined to give the Browns the kind of offer they’d want. |
So there you have it. Odds are Thomas is going no where. But if he does, it'll be the Giants. Maybe they drop their asking price to a 3rd to re-coup the Patriots trade earlier.

If he can block the guy standing in front of him, I say it takes about as long as it takes to iron his name onto the back of a jersey
I still think this doesn't make sense for the Browns unless they get blown away, which isn't happening.

how long would he take to contribute? Two weeks?

Yup. If it happens it depends on what day they get him in. I doubt he'd be ready for this Sunday but definitely next.
Get it done Jerry!
3rd & 5th is a very sweet deal for the Brown (who are rebuilding); we get a top tier lineman who can instantly fix our running game woes.
We have the skill players on the roster (better than the 6th best offense that we had in 2015); the problem is in the O-line (and lack of a fullback).
This would be a major step toward becoming a top-5 offense.
The draft is built on your top-3 players. We get Thomas for a #3, that's "even-steven" to me.
(How many #5 become impact players in the NFL ? - Not many)
Plus, if we do well the rest of the season, AND close to the bottom in the 2017 draft order - that's a win for us.
Do we just move Flowers to RT and have him have to adjust to that in season or would it be easier for him and better for the whole line if they just slid him over to LG and move Pugh back to RT for the rest of the year since he has experience there?
Great course of action, lets do it!
Agreed. I'd do a 3rd rounder for Joe Thomas
Put Eli behind a line he is confident will block for him and he will get the job done.
Maybe not having to even think about his blind side when dropping back or the team actually being able to run left might just be what's needed to see the best of Eli.
If the Giants were to make this trade, he better play right away.

Why? What difference would this week or next make? It's not like we'd be trading our current LT for him and be left short handed at the position.
I'd love to see the trade and him in there this week but I don't think he has to be in there so soon. Would he even be here in time to get a practice in this week? I guess he could be here for Wednesday but I don't know if that's enough time to be ready even for an All Pro.
Not. Happening.
Now you can run 4 wide. Now you can keep defenses homest w the run and do something besides the shotgun draw.
Hell I might even see what it takes to throw Barnidge into the deal.
and key guys up in the air next season.
JPP Hankins DRC .. I don't think giving a pick away is
gonna make or break the franchise ...
We are capable of hitting and missing in any given round .
Get the run game going so we don't waste Eli's arm ....
is this a serious comment? the guy is a PRO BOWL caliber player, he would start at LT for almost every team in football...he is plug and play REGARDLESS of the system
This offense has way too many good working parts, not to add a vital a high quality starter to the mix.

So that he had an extra week to learn the playbook.
I don't think it will take him long to do what he does best .
The one comment from Mac is never say never even Jerry
was a little coy about the Chatter .
We will know by the end of the day tomorrow .
Maybe Cleveland caves and we get him for 3rd rounder .
Its pretty obvious this current o-line is not gonna get
us to where we want to be ....
What the heck is going on there? And if he couldn't/can't play why did we sign the guy.?

Because they had two tackles on the team and one went down. Hart was pressed into service there and has been adequate at best. And what if either him or Flowers went down while Newhouse was still hurt. Breath was never more than a mediocre starter. He missed a whole year and is north of 30. He also got a minimum offer. He's a cheap insurance policy who will be cut in a nanosecond if the Thomas deal goes through
But this is unlikely to happen. The more telling is that they are having the conversation and what it means for Flowers. I felt the language was not as strongly behind Flowers as a LT than we had heard in the past. This coming after a week of self scouting is telling.
And this team needs to go against the grain a bit more.
Middle round pick straight up is fine...

This is my point. The Giants obviously like Flowers right where he is and they may also like Hart right where he is.
Some of you might be able to convince yourself that Flowers isn't worth the trouble but the Giants must like him. Maybe he's not even the problem. Watch the games again and focus on him in every game. He's not always bad. If the Giants like him, this whole debate is a waste of bandwidth.
He is not the weak link of the Offensive line. Personally I think the Center Richburg needs to get stronger.
As for Hart he needs to lift more and to get better arm strength and lower body leverage.
Flowers needs to use his power to swat defenders off their path of attack, and learn the best techniques to utilize his strength.

Actually doesn't your description pretty much epitomize a RT?
