Q: The offensive line continues to get called into question. Do you feel that the communication has gotten better each week?

A: The communication is good. We’re not making mental mistakes. We’re not going the wrong way on plays. There’s none of that going on. Coach Solari does a great job making sure that we know what we’re doing. I think our communication has been good.

Q: What about execution?

A: We have to execute better as an offense. If you want to produce, it’s up to us to make sure we’re executing at a high level when Sunday comes around.

Q: What’s it like to be part of this game and rivalry?

A: It’s a big game. It’s a division game. Right now, we’re thinking about the next game which is our most important game. It’s against the Eagles and it’s a division game. It’s going to be very, very important for us.

Q: What makes Fletcher Cox so tough?

A: He’s strong. I think he understands the position obviously because he’s played for five years I guess. He’s smart, strong, disruptive. Just very disruptive. He poses a good challenge for us.

Q: Did you sense any heightened energy this week in practice in terms of coming off the bye?

A: Yes. I think we understand that we’re not out of this thing. We’re in a good position right now to make some moves. Coming out of the bye, a division game is huge. I think everyone here understands that.

Q: Did anyone mention that it’s midway through the season and you’re in that position, that sixth spot?

A: No. We’re talking about the next game. That’s how we attack things. We talk about winning the day. I think a lot of people use that expression. We’re trying to win every rep, every day. When Sunday comes around, win Sunday. We’re worried about Sunday and our opponent on Sunday.

Q: Does that take some of the pressure off of you? Not having to worry about being 4-3 and just focusing in the task at hand?

A: This is the NFL, there’s a lot of pressure. I think we’re able to focus on the correct things. Not add pressure that’s not necessary.

Q: The run game, what has given you confidence seeing this week and the adjustments that you’ve made?

A: We just have to pay attention to our details. That will make the difference between a big run and not. You have to continue to work each and every week on our little details. Technique, aiming points, things like that. That will help us spring big runs. We’re not just going to give up and say, ‘it’s never going to happen.’ We’re going to continue going, continue chopping at the wood, and it will open up.

Q: Do you look at the stats?

A: Nope.

Q: Is there something to the Eagles front that makes it more difficult for you to face?

A: It’s just a different look. They like to play those guys wide and keep contained. They’re a real penetrating group. It’ll be a real challenge for us to negate the things that they like to do.

Q: What is the most difficult thing about their front?

A: They’re good players. It’s going to be a good defense and like I said, a good challenge for us. It’s our job to come out, be physical, and negate the things that they like to do. Keep them from getting in a rhythm.

Q: Do you know what an Eagles versus Giants game is going to be like, long before you get into it?

A: I do. It’s one of the most intense games of the year, I feel like. It’s a division game and there’s lots at stake. We want to win and they want to win. It’s going to be a dog fight.

Q: Was there anything during the bye week that you were able to identify that can help this run game get better?

A: From our standpoint as an offensive line, we have to keep going everyday and work on the tiny details. Fix those details, and make sure we have everything in line and in order. Ready to go so when it comes to game time, we give our running backs a good look, and open up some holes for them.

Here's my question which I wouldn't get a straight answer from,
Big Blue '56 : 11/2/2016 4:47 pm : link
but I would ask it anyway as a reporter:

Q: We all self scout ourselves, be it in life or on the football field. It's been alleged that you've regressed from the last year, taken a step backwards. Assuming it's not injury related, how would you account for that? What is your self assessment?
Its not communication and its not mental mistakes. So that seems
Jimmy Googs : 11/2/2016 6:41 pm : link
to leave us with lack of ability and/or physicality.

I think I would feel better if Richburg said it was communication issues...

Completely agree. I think this is the kind of question most BBIers would want to ask. However, when a Giants player's performance is clearly down have you noticed how rarely that kind of question is asked? Wonder if it's an unwritten rule but I think we would all like to hear that straight up question to Eli, OBJ, Flowers and others. Not the fluff we normally get (and some of them have valid reasons such as OBJ perhaps) but really, "Do you feel you're performing at your expected level and if not, why not?" Strange that even the hardened reporters don't go there.

Yeah, never understood that..My guess is that most fans who they cater to are casual fans, so they most likely wouldn't even have noticed any possible fall off in Richburg's game..
He's young. It's mid way year 3. He has regressed but..

He still is, and will continue to be, a good player for us, hopefully for a long time but IMO our O-Line is lacking in leadership along the front more than anything. It's year 2 they have had time to gel, it's now or never for this O-Line.

if a reporter asked questions like that or framed in that way they would be quickly blacklisted and ignored as much as feasible. I've seen more open ended questions like "how would you rate your play this year?"

I still think the OL is getting adjusted

to the new scheme. New coach, new scheme, new way of doing things called into question by struggles early on. I'm hopeful they pick up a bit after the bye.
