Roger Lewis Jr...what are we thinking?

redbeard : 11/7/2016 10:07 am
Whats BBI's thoughts on this kid? Ran a nice route on his TD and then turned around later in the game and dropped a big third down catch that could have been a back breaker.

Are we thinking this kid becomes another undrafted gem at wide receiver? or is he a JAG?

The drop was

inexcusable...
Lewis seems..
FatMan in Charlotte : 11/7/2016 10:08 am : link
to have good rapport with Eli. Obviously, you don't want to see the drops, but at this point, he's getting open better than Cruz.

Old Dirty Beckham : 11/7/2016 10:09 am : link
Deserves more reps. Players drop balls. In limited snaps he's managed to get behind the defense for two semi-long touchdowns.
Catch the dam ball!

Thats what I am thinking.
Back to back drops
averagejoe : 11/7/2016 10:13 am : link
that kill an important drive is not the way to get yourself more playing time. He made a nice adjustment on the deep ball but didn't make the play. He followed that with a big third down drop.

Think he has some talent but he needs to make plays when he is in there.
Risk-Reward
LG in NYC : 11/7/2016 10:13 am : link
same with playing Perkins over Jennings IMO.

is the upside of playing these younger, faster players greater than the risk that they are going to mess up occasionally?

I vote yes personally.
He is getting open...
EricJ : 11/7/2016 10:14 am : link
to me that is most important right now.
Who knows
ZogZerg : 11/7/2016 10:15 am : link
He has to catch the ball when given the opportunity.

He looks promising though.

It's not like Cruz doesn't have his fair share of drops.
He's Mr. 50-50

I was saying the same thing to the TV set but- I honestly think he's going to be a good one. OBJ and Cruz have the dropsies at time too.
Lots

of promise. He gets open and has downfield speed. Don't excuse the drops, but he should play more. His ascent from rookie UDFA to the third or fourth WR is remarkable.
He got wide open a number of times
Patrick77 : 11/7/2016 10:20 am : link
And had two big drops. If he can get over what I assume was nerves he could be a prettty good receiver for us.
Right On...!

Look we all love Cruz deservedly so but Victor has had his
fair share of drops and he rarely gets behind the defense
anymore . It may be a blessing in disguise ..
The drop was in a very key situation but if you take into
account the number of attempts that have gone Lewis's way
and the fact that he is a very good gunner on special
teams whats not to like about this kid .
Has great downfield speed.
WideRight : 11/7/2016 10:21 am : link
Better than Cruz or Sheppard. So he takes some pressure off of Odell. He fits in with the group very well.
The question is are the drops because
BillT : 11/7/2016 10:23 am : link
He's just getting used to real game action or does he have questionable hands. No way to know that right now.
He doesn't always catch the ball
Giantology : 11/7/2016 10:23 am : link
But when he does, he prefers touchdowns.
In fact,
Giantology : 11/7/2016 10:24 am : link
Maybe he can only catch touchdowns?
I am good with Lewis getting more snaps.
Jimmy Googs : 11/7/2016 10:26 am : link
I noticed Harris on the field towards the end which was a surprise...did Lewis get "benched" b/c these drops?

Anybody?

Lewis was in for Beckham while he was hurt
I think Harris was there
PEEJ : 11/7/2016 10:30 am : link
for better blocking
He has already contributed more than I expected
pjcas18 : 11/7/2016 10:32 am : link
from a rookie UDFA WR on a team where WR is a strength in terms of personnel.

Hope he continues to develop, it would be nice to have some insurance against injury to Beckham, Cruz, or Shepard

was recruited and committed to Ohio State but some trouble with the law (charges were later dropped) led to both sides moving on before he landed at BG.

Bad drop yesterday but for an undrafted FA he's made a nice impact.
He dropped as many passes as OBJ...
BamaBlue : 11/7/2016 10:33 am : link
and on the bright side, didn't lose a takeaway interception!

What the Giants have is a very good #3 WR with upside...

Early impression is that the kid is better than the present Cruz. Seems to be somewhat of a natural.

Not enough playing time to know whether the hands are a problem or an outlier.

Bingo. And at times he is wide open! Cruz I hope is ok because he is clutch but Lewis might be a player better suited to complement obj on the outside. (That does not mean I think Lewis Jr. is as talented as Cruz I just think Cruz is not an ideal outside WR)

Harris is an excellent blocking WR. They brought him in as a blocking WR in three WR sets for Perkins to run the ball in the 4 minute offense.

This. They did this last game too.
i think
Les in TO : 11/7/2016 10:56 am : link
he can be an x factor on this offense and I like that he's getting more involved.
Meh
Jim in Fairfax : 11/7/2016 10:57 am : link
All he does is catch touchdowns.
He has some size
Carson53 : 11/7/2016 10:59 am : link
he has some skill, just hold on to the damn ball.
I know I rather see him than Harris, boy he sucks this year!
I think Rainey should return kicks, just let Harris return
punts, don't trust Rainey fielding punts.
He's got potential
Sonic Youth : 11/7/2016 11:12 am : link
But those drops were brutal. They could have been game changing, and we're lucky they didn't cost us the game.
He gets good separation but those drops can't happen

He beat press coverage on one play. Looks to be a physical receiver and I agree that is something that has been missing from this offense.
Not bad for a 4th WR
Mike in Long Beach : 11/7/2016 11:32 am : link
He's had some moments... but yeah, that drop tho :(
He's worth giving more time to
jpennyva : 11/7/2016 11:34 am : link
in order to better evaluate if he'll contribute significantly. The drops were unfortunate but, as others have pointed out, it's not as if OBJ and Cruz don't drop critical passes from time to time either. I think he will work on it and will improve.
Giants are actually set up well with their WR corp
Mason : 11/7/2016 11:45 am : link
don't forget about guys like Davis and Powe on the PS. I think those two guys could make the roster next season.
I was waiting for this thread.
giantgiantfan : 11/7/2016 12:01 pm : link
He had a nice TD, but then two brutal drops that ended what would have been a scoring drive. I hope those drops are just jitters from his first real big shot. You put him out there again and see how he handles it. Even Odell has had some big drops.
If you're going to be a pro,
PEEJ : 11/7/2016 12:05 pm : link
you have to make the easy catches. If you're going to be the physical big-body receiver, you have to make the contested catches.

Jury's still out
Two words re Lewis's drops.
CT Charlie : 11/7/2016 12:13 pm : link
Cruz. OdellBeckhamJunior.

The drops are frustrating,
Mad Mike : 11/7/2016 12:14 pm : link
but I think he's clearly a promising player. He looks like a guy who could become a nice part of our offense if he becomes more reliable in catching the ball.
I don't know why people think he's so fast.
Ira : 11/7/2016 12:24 pm : link
His times at the combine were anything but. Maybe it's time to see more of Dwayne Harris.

The kid just catches Touch Downs!

Seriously, I think it is too early to tell. Accept for the two drops yesterday, he has done well in his limited role (played way less minutes than Cruz, but I believe he has more TDs than Cruz).
More time with JUGS machine
CRinCA : 11/7/2016 12:27 pm : link
Less time with the damn choreographed TD celebrations.

Yeah I know get off my lawn.
not sure what the 'issue'
giants#1 : 11/7/2016 12:28 pm : link
is this year, but Beckham dropped only 2 pass in 2014 and 5 all of last year. He's definitely was not a WR with drop issues before this year.

Remember when Amani Toomer (and even Jerry Rice) ...
Manny in CA : 11/7/2016 12:35 pm : link

Used to drop a lot of balls (when they first got to the NFL) ?

They both WORKED hard and got over it.

Lewis, I think has that "something" (not just speed or route running), that lets him get open. The last Giants player like him (with less speed than Lewis) was Mario Manningham.
Gotta go with him
gmenatlarge : 11/7/2016 1:05 pm : link
instead of Cruz on the outside, Cruz is more of a slot receiver.
it's

the 82......makes you drop the ball. The kid should get a new number.
