Janoris Jenkins is really good

Keith : 11/15/2016 5:12 pm
I don't think enough is said about this guy. He's up there as one of the best in the league. We ask him to cover the oppositions #1 every game and every game he competes and makes it really hard for the guy. The signing didn't really make a ton of sense to me at the time, but IMO, he's been the best of the group. A top notch corner and the biggest improvement to this defense.

In comparison with Norman, Jenkins is better. He's asked to do more and he's better at it.
As is Vernon and Snacks

but I feel like Jenkins was the best signing of the group and the one I had the least hope for.
Yeah

team flaws aside (and yeah $$$ helps) but the scouts did a great job identifying players worth laying out big coin for. This team has flaws but I think all in all Reese and Co. had a pretty awesome draft/off-season all things considered.

Where?
I think he has gone a long way toward answering the criticism in StL..
Big Blue Blogger : 11/15/2016 5:31 pm : link
...that he gambled too much and consequently gave up too many big plays. Look at how few passing TDs the Giants have allowed this year, with a stopgap free safety and Jenkins covering the top dog pretty regularly.

Jenkins was probably the FA signing that was met with the most resistance from fans. A lot of people thought it was a big time overpay and that the player wasn't that good. He's been outstanding. He's playing the best football of his career right now. And yes, he's better than Josh Norman.

Say what you want about Reese but the man had a pretty damn good offseason. His FA signings are all having major impacts on the team, he has draft picks who are contributing on a weekly basis and even got a hold of a guy like Adams as a UDFA who has filled in admirably since we lost DT.
Jenkins said in an interview that he intentionally gambled

in St. Louis because their offense was so bad and had a hard time scoring points. Felt he wouldn't have to do that here and therefore no unnecessary gambles on interceptions.

this should have been our clue that Jenkins would excel...

This! I said it last night. Jenkins is better than Norman and I don't think it's that close, imo. I thought Green owned Norman a couple of weeks back. Granted was injured last night, but I don't think that happened until the play down the sideline in the 4th qtr where he seemed to land wrong. Prior to that, he was still kept in check for the most part.
Stopping the run and shutting down the number one WR

is one of the main reason why were 6-3.

We can thank Jenkins and Snacks for that. Also add the emergence of Collins and the unexpected improvement at linebacker, with Casillas and Robinson

We can say Vernon is the biggest disappointment out of that FA class, but he's been hindered by a wrist injury for most of the season. He's starting to show signs of coming out of it. So he gets an incomplete from me until we know he's fully healthy.

Some can say without regret, Reese has had an outstanding FA. Add me to that group.

Now, if the offense can figure out a way to put it all together, and start clicking on all cylinders going into the playoffs, we may suprise some people and go deep into the playoffs.

He's been very good.

And is certainly quite an upgrade over Prince, even with Prince being a decent player himself.
Vernon has done really well this year, and was

been really good. So have Snacks and Vernon. I am puzzled why we don't have more sacks, but there were some last night from good pressure. I assume part of this is that Vernon has a busted hand, and JPP of course is missing most of his right hand. It's really a miracle and a testament to their guts that they are playing. They also don't come out, which concerns me because they might get worn down by the end of the season.
What seems to get lost is with

So many new parts it would take time to come together. They were much better to start the year over last year and they just keep getting better. Sacks have started to come as well as the picks. The number one red zone defense who saw that coming. Spags called a great game last night, very aggressive even if they didn't get there they sure as shit affected the play. They are winning us games unlike the last couple years where I had zero faith in them

What I'm about to say can easily be addressed by saying, "you can say that about all teams," but as I rewatch the games, I am amazed how thisclose our guys are to finishing off sack attempts..The numbers would certainly be higher, but they are getting far more pressure than I noticed when watching it live..
Snacks deserves a lot of credit for the improved run defense

He played nothing like this for the Rams. He has been really good.

While I was a fan of Prince, being available each game is a big deal. He is there every week
Thanks, Reese!

Remember that first time around, defense took about

Half season to jell under Spags.

Although this is Spags second year of his second stint, most of the players on defense are new to his system.
I'm not going to pretend that I watched a lot of the Rams(who would),

but from everything I read and from the highlights(low lights?) that they've shown, Jenkins looked pedestrian. Then we gave him a shit ton of money. I never envisioned him this good, but he's really really good. Pretty soon he's going to get national attention and be in the conversation with the best. Not that it means anything, but I feel like most people are really aware of how good he is yet.
They had to sign the Best Guy they could

They moved on from Prince a #1 pick I don't know if that
was the plan knowing Jenkins would be available ?
They made sure with the big offer and it has paid off .
Jenkins is a playmaker that Prince wasn't .

But it's still collective. Football has and always will be a game of dominoes. When the front ones fall, the rest have no hope of standing.

Yep and after that he didn't have many opportunities anyway. Dalton threw a pick on one drive and got annihilated another drive. He even caught a big pass on a slant. I don't think his injury really made much of a difference considering that and how he was kept in check the rest of the game.
I know this is Jenkins' thread,
chopperhatch : 11/15/2016 9:54 pm : link
But was DRC's man even targeted last night?

Both of our corners are just terrific at their positions. Just completely erasing the other team's best threat. Would love to see DRC cover the TE on teams that have elite ones like Dallas and Philly.
can we please stop praising arc

Eli Apple ended up playing 100% of the defensive snaps yesterday. He, Collins, and Jenkins the only ones to do so.

Apple was underrated yesterday for shutting them down too. Gotta love the combination of youth, talent, and durability on defense right now...

A couple of Dalton's throws came close to the water cooler...

DRC left with a back injury and only played 14 snaps. Apple played every snap and was barely targeted too.

From PFF:
Quote:
The starting cornerbacks pair of Eli Apple and Janoris Jenkins were able to contain the Bengals passing game. Neither CB allowed more than 3.5 yards per target and the longest catch either CB allowed was 14 yards. Both cornerbacks were able to clamp down the Bengals WRs, giving very little room on targets and not allowing the Bengals offense to move the ball.

Also this:
Quote:

Green had just four catches on seven targets for 23 yards when covered by Jenkins, according to Pro Football Focus. Green's 13-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter came in front of Jenkins, who was in zone coverage.

Adams definitely looked like he bit on the play fake on the Green TD and wasn't able to get underneath Green.
