Predictions on how the Giants season will play out?

Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/26/2016 9:21 am
I'm probably being naive but I think we still have an outside shot at catching the Cowboys. I think we'll beat them in the Meadowlands. I hope that first Redskins game doesn't come back to haunt us.

But if the Giants make it as a Wild Card, who do you prefer we play in the first round?

I think our schedule is too tough..
Sean : 11/26/2016 9:27 am : link
I actually do think we match up well against Dallas but the final 2 road division games are just a brutal end to the season.

@Cleveland - W
@Pittsburgh - L
Dallas - L
Detroit - W
@Philly - L
@Washington - W

I think the way the division is shaping it is fair to expect splits with each team and a 3-3 division record.

I'll say 10-6 & the 5th seed. I'd prefer to play Detroit in the WC game, I think a road trip to Atlanta or Minnesota would be tough.

I can guarantee this though, Dallas wants no part of the Giants in the divisional round.
Things change quickly in the NFL

But catching the Cowboys will be tough after they beat Washington. I would feel better about it if the Giants were healthier on the OL.
10-6.

Once there, a playoff Eli on the road is quite comforting..I don't care who we play, even Seattle, as tough as they are at home
11-5, #1 Wild Card (unless the Cowboys falter)

Eric, I agree we still have a shot but the Thanksgiving win makes it
Ben in Tampa : 11/26/2016 9:42 am : link
Much harder.

Plus, consider this: Outside of the Giants, the Cowboys play the Vikings, Bucs, Lions and Eagles. All teams within striking distance of a wild card.

In some ways we want the Cowboys to win all those non-Giants games because it strengthens out chances to maintain the WC.

(If the Vikings somehow beat them on Thursday, all bets are off and we are going for the division title!)
We absolutely have a real shot at the division
bradshaw44 : 11/26/2016 9:43 am : link
That week one win keeps us in it until it's mathematically impossible. im not worried about most NFC teams. Any of us can beat any of us. I absolutely think we will beat Dallas on the 11th. And if two other teams can knock them off I think 12-4 wins the division.

Either way I think we make the playoffs. Maybe we will get Atlanta in round 1 like 2011. Give Ryan another beat down then head to Seattle or Dallas. Then face one or the other on the championship. Then take Brady down for the third time cementing Eli in canton.
Get Vereen back and any one of the three guards with no new injuries
Ivan15 : 11/26/2016 9:49 am : link
And this team could finish strong. 11-5 or 12-4 become possible.

Beat the Browns and get past Steelers (win or lose) without getting beat up and the Giants will roll The rest of the way.

Getting Vereen back could mean 2 more wins just because they can control the game and 3rd down.
I think we win the Wild Card
bceagle05 : 11/26/2016 9:56 am : link
and beat Detroit in Detroit, then upset Dallas in Jerry World before our season ends with a valiant effort in Seattle.

imo, thinking of Eli and what he did in 07 and 11, and now is not guaranteed of repeating. Different teams and a few years older. Can he repeat, it's hopeful, but not realistically expected to. He had better people up front (not the best, but better) protecting him. I'd feel more comfortable (now knowing) of what happened back then 5 years ago with him and etc, than now. JS jmo

Doomster : 11/26/2016 10:02 am : link
you seriously think the Giants can catch the Cowboys?

I don't think our OL can hold up for the rest of the season.....I think it will be 9-7, 10-6......

Our defense will be gassed by the end of the season......our offense just can't put teams away and this will come back and bite us in the ass......

This is not being negative, it's just a fact.....

We have been fortunate that our defense has played as well as it has, with the guys we are trotting out there at LB and FS.....our DL just does not have the rotation depth to keep our starters fresh....

Our offense, is still basically, OBj and Eli....take either out of the game and the offense sputters.....SS has played as expected.....he's a rookie, that is a little inconsistent....but his playing time this year will pay dividends next year.....Cruz is Cruz.....he is one step away from losing playing time....he also is not the VC we remember.....after these guys you have hit and miss receivers, including the TE's.....a TE and 3rd WR are needed next year....

Our running game shows signs of life, sometimes....but there is basically no speed.....the loss of Wilson, is so apparent, when you see Jennings rip off a run for 20 yards that Wilson would have taken to the house.....but when you absolutely need, a first down on 3rd and short, it's a coin toss....Eli has played well, for the most part, but we have seen how he reacts in games where there is real pressure.....and the way this OL is being shuffled around, he will be seeing more.....the OL has to be fixed in the off season....it's almost a number one priority, like the defense was last year, next year....

I think injuries are starting to become a factor on this team.....

We have a good chance at making the playoffs.....but how far we go, depends on how healthy we remain.....
I think the Cowboys will slip up vs minny next thurs
micky : 11/26/2016 10:04 am : link
whether Giants then take care of business the next 3 week (including tomorrow)..will tell. Right now that OL is pretty banged up and more concerning..Pugh may be out for awhile after setback

is it possible we could play the skins ?
I just think Seattle is going to win it all and we could falter
down the stretch if the injuries continue to mount .
I don't see us winning in Philly or Washington and Detroit
will also be a very tough match-up .
I feel that the O-line will be our undoing in the end .
Obviously Dallas isn't a given but I do think we match up
well with them ...

If this offense could score more and control the clock, AND STAY HEALTHY, then I would agree with you....

But after 10 games, I am disappointed in this offense.....it plays too conservative....it doesn't know how to go for the jugular, and puts too much pressure on the defense.....and the OL is just too suspect...

And one thing I forgot, and you know it's going to happen sometime, ST's will cost us a game.....
Hard to believe in a team that doesn't
joeinpa : 11/26/2016 10:16 am : link
Control the line of scrimmage on offense. 7 very close wins aided by clutch plays and some bad mistakes by the opposition does not elicit confidence either.

That being said I will hold out hope for division but not be surprised with 9 - 7 finish and missing play offs again. So probably 10 wins is my expectation.

Cowboys will collapse starting on December 11th. We will end up beating them three times once we meet them in the Divisional Round after they beat Detroit or Atlanta in the Wild Card Game. No One wants to see Eli, Odell, Shepard, Cruz, JPP, Vernon and this Secondary in the month of January. Giants Lose one of @Philly or @Washington and that's it.

People talk about not wanting to play the Giants in the playoffs
adamg : 11/26/2016 10:38 am : link
I don't think teams want to play us now. Everyone seems to acknowledge that our offense is playing at a fraction of its potential. Our defense has shown itself to be capable of special things. I would think teams deep down would be concerned about playing the Giants on the day Eli gets the offense firing on the level it can and should.

I think we go 11-5 and get the #5 seed. Dallas would have to have a major down turn in their play to flub the division. I think we may beat them though. Our team is built in a way that can subvert them.
Ryan, answer me this,
Doomster : 11/26/2016 10:39 am : link
do you disagree with what I have said? Then say so and back it up....

Do you remember our defense at the end of the 2008 season?

With the injuries, do you think our OL has improved?

Do you think we can run the ball when we have to?

Are you happy with the play of the TE's?

I am a Giant fan like you....I hope they make the playoffs, where anything can happen.....but that is tempered by the way this offense has played this year, and also by the injuries that are starting to rear it's ugly head....

This is a team that has not played well, since the second half of 2012.....it's not going to be fixed in one season.....if we can fix the offense next year, like we did the defense this year, then next year is most definitely, our better shot....

We are going to be 8-3. To say we haven't played well since 2012 is not true, unless your standard is winning every game by 25 points. Based on your comment, I bet you didn't think we played well in either Super Bowl year either.

in as the 5th or 6th WC. Who would we want in the first round however? I think that's a toss up and I don't think we'd match up well with either Atlanta or Detroit in their respective stadiums.

With that said, our offense needs to start exerting itself and start to make bigger plays. It's time to start ramping up to the playoffs.

Disagree at every level...We haven't been fortunate, we have extreme talent on the Defensive side and Will get better.
And no depth? What are you looking for all pros on the bench.? Wynn, Bromely, Odi (who is coming on now) and the kid from Notre Dame. I don't think anyone in the game can come close to that front 8.
I count six all pro types on the defense . And at the positions of extreme importance in today's passing game we have four all pro types. Vernon (who is over the hand and getting better), JPP, Cromartie and Janoris.
Kennard and Robinson give us more athleticism at LB'er than we've had since LT and crew retired.
Collins is emerging as a candidate for defensive player of the year.
Guys look at this cornucopia of riches and cry "poverty". " We're lucky to get this far, now we're sure to wear out,"

I said they haven't played well, since the second half of the 2012 season, 3-5...2013, 7-9....2014, 6-10......2015, 6-10.....so since the midpoint of 2012, the Giants are, 22-34, with a majority of those wins against bottom feeders....so they have not played well, until this season.....

Based on your comment, I bet you didn't think we played well in either Super Bowl year either.

How in the world, do you come off on a tangent like that?

I see stuff, written, that we are going to run the table the rest of the season.....that we are going to catch the Cowboys.....is it possible? yes....realistic? no....

I tend to look at the Giants more realistically, than most do.....of course, Christmas is coming, and if you want to send me a pair of the Blue Tints you wear, I'll give it a shot....
I hate saying this but....
Blue Angel : 11/26/2016 11:08 am : link
The team that worries me are the Eagles.......I could see them winning five of their next six and easily beating Dallas if Dallas plays their third stringers if Seattle and the Giants pose no threat to catch them. We better beat Cleveland tomorrow or I could see us going in a nose dive!
BBI is great
BigBlueShock : 11/26/2016 11:09 am : link
The only place on earth where being negative = being "realistic". You'd swear that was the dictionary meaning.

I think the OL has been showing improvement but the injuries have killed them. But these guys will be coming back, so that should solidify things a bit. The Giants also have far and away the best defense in the division. Winning the division will be tough, considering the schedules for us and Dallas, but it's still what we should be striving for. That's why I was hoping for a Dallas loss on Thanksgiving. It's an uphill climb, but let's enjoy the ride
Part of what makes this a tough prediction IMO
jogo1 : 11/26/2016 11:21 am : link
is that the Giants are 1-2 on the road (London was a pro-Giants crowd) with 4 still remaining.
Watching the opposition,
oldog : 11/26/2016 11:39 am : link
is the best key to the coming weeks. Cleveland are as much of a threat as anyone, because they have been close several times, and will be loosely seeking to get into the win column. Realistically, however, their record suggests a Giant win. Certainly the knowledgeable oddsmakers don't see the Giants losing that one. So, 8-3, Pittsburg next. The Steelers have looked vulnerable against stronger teams, and the power ratings almost all have the Giants moderately to significantly stronger, than they are. At home, they will be tough, but can be handled. 9-3? Could be. Then, as a probable 9-3 team we will face our divisional group, Dallas, Washington and Philly. 2 out of three. They, notwithstanding Dallas's record, all look flawed. Dallas, with its 4th round rookie QB and its weak secondary. So, 11-4, the other game might be winnable too, so surely a wild card, and there is always the possibility of a Dallas collapse. They appear to have had an extraordinary run of luck, but such things have a way of evening out. Defense, in December and January, has a way of proving more reliable than Offense. If we lose one of the divisional games, it would be best to lose the Dallas game, because we will in likelihood have to beat them in the playoffs, and like NE in 07-08, its much better to win the last one. Outside, there is no team that the Giants can't beat, and this year's team has been one that improves, and gets stronger as the season goes on. This year's Giants have shown that they want to win, and can execute. This season will remain interesting and entertaining until the end. Once there, I anticipate that Eli and JPP will know what to do. Collins and ODB too, would appear to be ready to provide the sort of leadership that winning teams need.
Agree, Giant defense is playing at a higher level than rest of NFCE
Jimmy Googs : 11/26/2016 11:46 am : link
and offense should be good enough to get us into playoffs as wildcard.

Think we have a great chance to beat Cowboys in NJ, but we will need them to slip elsewhere too as we aren't going to run the table.

In the playoffs, hopefully we have the O-line back healthy and Vereen and can make some noise against anyone other than traveling to Seattle...

AcidTest : 11/26/2016 11:51 am : link
and a WC. The banged up OL prevents a better record. We can't run, and have little downfield passing game. Eli and the defense will have to carry this team. We haven't beaten anybody by more than seven points, and have only scored four points more than our opponents. The good news is we are winning instead of losing close games, unlike last year.

I like the way the Giants are playing football -- they've been playing tough and gritty, and especially the defense seems to bite the bullet and ratchet things up in the second half of every game they play - I am loving the Defense!!!!

If they keep this up the Giants will make some noise and they certainly will be relevant through the rest of the season. If somehow the offense wakes up -- look out!!!

Relevant football - Yeah Baby - Go Giants!!!

to get to 10 or 11 wins. It will not be enough to take the division unless the Cowboys implode. I will say they will beat Detroit, Cleveland and the Cowboys and perhaps the Eagles. The Washington game will not matter.

The goal is to make the playoffs...as tempting as it might be to see the Vikings beat the Cowboys next week. I think we are better off with a Vikings loss to improve the chances of the wildcard berth.

But it's possible and I like the Giants the rest of the way if healthy.

Realistically, I see the Giants at 11-5 and a 5 seed. I'd prefer to play ATL or DET as I think we match up well with both. Road playoff games in a dome would help the offense.

The only team I don't want to see is Seattle. In Seattle would be tough and the defenses are similar. Their offense is playing better and they have a lot of playoff experience on their roster.

Likely need Dallas to lose at the Giants and 2 more losses to end up 12-4

Giants would need to beat Dallas and only lose 1 more to end up 12-4. Winning the division seems very unlikely.

11-5 and Wildcard seed 1 (5th overall), playing at Detroit is my guess / most reasonable hope.

9-7 will mean missing the playoffs. 10-6 is about a 50/50 shot; most likely the #6 seed and tougher division opponent.
