Predictions on how the Giants season will play out?

Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/26/2016 9:21 am
I'm probably being naive but I think we still have an outside shot at catching the Cowboys. I think we'll beat them in the Meadowlands. I hope that first Redskins game doesn't come back to haunt us.

But if the Giants make it as a Wild Card, who do you prefer we play in the first round?

I've said since week 3 the Redskin loss will haunt us all winter
The_Boss : 11/26/2016 4:32 pm : link
I'm not backing down:
Cleveland: W
@ Pitt: L
Dallas: L
Lions: W
@ Philly: L
@ Redskins: L

9-7. Been fooling around with The NY Times playoff thing. There is a very real chance the NYG are the only team in the East to not qualify for the post season. That Redskin game will be a "win and in" contest for both. I have DC winning. The Eagles go to Detroit as the 5 seed and the Redskins go to Atlanta as the 6. Flame away.
If we lose to Browns

Its over.If we win I think we get motivated to beat Pittsburg. Then we have good chance of getting 1st Wild card

Our demise will be Oline =Reese fault=Mara won't
fire him like most teams. We still have money. No reason
we couldn't find some talent .

And this is the other thing I've said since UDFA: the OL will hold this team back. So far, it's pretty obvious in our inability to run and beat the 2 deep safety looks just about every team employs vs the NYG. Unfortunately, when it's all said and done, The_Boss will look like a prophet once again.

So Annie, it is Reese's fault we are down to about our 4th String LG and each of our 3 OL taken in the top 2 rounds are underperforming?

It IS Reese's fault tho if Richburg proves to be the poor player at C he is now long term and if Flowers doesn't become an elite LT because he picked them. And yes, at 9 Flowers has to become an elite level LT in my eyes, especially with Todd Gurley still on the board. Sy'56 doesn't believe in Richburg long term and many outside talent evaluators think Flowers is ideally suited for RT. The only premium pick which has worked out, for the most part, is Pugh at LG.
Todd Gurley
Mike in NY : 11/26/2016 6:30 pm : link
Has looked like crap this year for Los Angeles. No guarantee he would do better behind our OL. Had we had Vereen healthy all year our O I think would be better because Jennings would be used less in the passing game. He needs to hold onto the ball better though.

While true, Barry Sanders would look like shit behind the NYG line the last 2 years, I would still rather have Gurley and whatever subsequent series of events along the OL Reese would have added since the 9th pick of 2015.
Strange how so many fans think the Giants will lose that
USAF NYG Fan : 11/26/2016 7:04 pm : link
Redskins game yet beat the Cowboys. The Cowboys are a much better team then when the Giants faced them week 1. The Redskins have improved as well BUT I don't think it's as much as the Giants have improved.

In the Redskins game the Giants gave up 11 penalties for 118 yards. Eli threw two interceptions (Could/Should have been 4) and had 2 fumbles. Vereen also had a fumble (for a turnover). The Skins had a crazy special teams run back and faked a punt successfully. Desean burned them on a very deep pass as well.

The Giants were undisciplined and all around sloppy which was clearly shown with turnovers and penalties. Did you know the Giants are now one of the least penalized teams in the league? Although still not great the Giants have broken even over the last 3 games on turnovers which is far better than the stats are currently showing over the course of the season. They were -2 after the Skins game. I think it's unlikely they turn it over as often as they did the last game.

Point being that I don't see the Giants making all those mistakes again against the Skins. I also think that some pressure from refs just shifted from Beckham to Norman. I even see some teams turning the tables on Norman and start getting under his skin instead. We will likely have Vereen back AND he should even be back up to speed by then (is my math wrong here?).

As for the Cowboys, I think the Giants match up well against them. However, the Boys are still playing strong, great, sound football right now. If the Giants can contain Elliot AND keep Dak in the pocket (don't leave him a hole to run through), I like the Giants for the win.

you seriously think the Giants can catch the Cowboys?

I don't think our OL can hold up for the rest of the season.....I think it will be 9-7, 10-6......

Our defense will be gassed by the end of the season......our offense just can't put teams away and this will come back and bite us in the ass......

This is not being negative, it's just a fact.....

We have been fortunate that our defense has played as well as it has, with the guys we are trotting out there at LB and FS.....our DL just does not have the rotation depth to keep our starters fresh....

Our offense, is still basically, OBj and Eli....take either out of the game and the offense sputters.....SS has played as expected.....he's a rookie, that is a little inconsistent....but his playing time this year will pay dividends next year.....Cruz is Cruz.....he is one step away from losing playing time....he also is not the VC we remember.....after these guys you have hit and miss receivers, including the TE's.....a TE and 3rd WR are needed next year....

Our running game shows signs of life, sometimes....but there is basically no speed.....the loss of Wilson, is so apparent, when you see Jennings rip off a run for 20 yards that Wilson would have taken to the house.....but when you absolutely need, a first down on 3rd and short, it's a coin toss....Eli has played well, for the most part, but we have seen how he reacts in games where there is real pressure.....and the way this OL is being shuffled around, he will be seeing more.....the OL has to be fixed in the off season....it's almost a number one priority, like the defense was last year, next year....

I think injuries are starting to become a factor on this team.....

We have a good chance at making the playoffs.....but how far we go, depends on how healthy we remain.....

I don't understand your comment a of the Giants defense 'being gassed'. If anything they are as healthy as we have seen them in years. Maybe you are referring to pressure, but I don't see what the defense has done thus far that has been a Herculean effort.
I have felt real good about this Giant team for weeks
steve in ky : 11/26/2016 7:09 pm : link
I see no reason why they can't win the division. They just need to pick up one game on the Cowboys and then win their home field game against them.

Will it happen, who knows but I feel good about their chances and like where they are sitting right now.

They are coming together as a team for a first year coach and look to be building towards peaking at just the right time.

If Giants are a WC, no way they can play the Skins in the first two rounds. Only time they could face each other if NFC title game.
A wild card
LakeGeorgeGiant : 11/26/2016 7:14 pm : link
means they play on the road against a division winner. Where are the Redskins predictions coming from?

They aren't going to play Washington. Realistic opponents would be Atlanta, Minnesota, Detroit....outside chance of Tampa.

Yes. There will always be two teams with higher seeds than 5 and 6 the first two rounds. Even if they both win in the WC round, the 1 and 2 seeds show up in the divisional rounds.
Got it.

it's very hard to make a counterpoint to someone who thinks his own opinions are facts - but sure I will respond:

Yes, I disagree with most everything you said about the outlook of the team. This whole "injuries rearing their ugly head" narrative is not only complete bullshit but also a pretty lazy analysis. What major contributor on the team (a good starter who we expected contributions from) is hurt other than Pugh? I'll give you Thompson, but Adams has stepped up really well in his absence and there hasn't been much of a liability from that position. So...no - injuries are not a problem with this team. We are extremely healthy.

You also said our offense is still pretty much all Eli and OBJ. Not true. We've won games this season without major contributions from Beckham. You say Shepard has been an "inconsistent rookie" - yet we've won multiple games this season because he has played extremely well and had more targets than any other receiver. He makes clutch catch after clutch catch that helps this team win games. That doesn't make him a factor in your eyes though. Not sure what you're watching.

You basically say that since we haven't beaten teams by a lot or haven't played consistently enough on offense that we somehow aren't a good team. With that theory - are the Seahawks not a good team? They lost to the Rams, barely beat the Dolphins at home, should have lost to the Bills at home, and at large have looked inconsistent throughout the year. The only problem? They win. They end up winning those games no matter how you slice it. You probably think that the Eagles are better than us or they have more talent or because they've beaten us a bunch of times lately that somehow they are a better team. Well guess what, right now they aren't.

The problem I have with fans like you is you have this perfect vision of what every aspect of the Giants roster should look like, or how every player or every offense, defense, and ST should play every single Sunday and if it doesn't live up to your standard even though let's say, they fucking win the game, you're disappointed. So you're basically forever a pessimistic fan and that really sucks mostly for you, but also for the rest of us who have to put up with your negative opinion analysis every week. That being said - I hope you are proven wrong about this team and you're man enough to come out and say hey ya know what - this team just MIGHT be good - if they continue to win games. The end.
It's just a matter of time before our offense really clicks...
Shockwave : 11/26/2016 10:37 pm : link
Not sure wtf is going on with it but we are not doing half as well as we could be on offense. Never mind the running game, that's a lost cause IMO and Jennings is horrible. Vareen is not a true 3 down back but if he comes back and plays like he was he first few games it could be a huge boost and turning points. Basically Jennings always turns nothing into nothing ...Vareen would always seem to scamper for 2-3 yards no matter what.

Defense is getting better but and hopefully it's not a fluke. It's really surprising that yes we could actually be the #1 seed, realistically it's in our hands if we want it.
Well, I will try to explain......

So you think this OL is healthy? Pugh is still out with a knee.....Newhouse has potentially an MCL tear....Jones has a calf problem....Beatty has not played all season.......what if there is another injury? And look at Vernon and JPP.....both are playing with injuries, because they have to....

You also said our offense is still pretty much all Eli and OBJ. Not true. We've won games this season without major contributions from Beckham. So SS has played the same way every game? He has had drops...some big ones....I didn't say he sucked, I said he was a little inconsistent....

You basically say that since we haven't beaten teams by a lot or haven't played consistently enough on offense that we somehow aren't a good team. With that theory - are the Seahawks not a good team? Where have I said this is not a good team? I said I thought this team would be 9-7, 10-6, and might make the playoffs.....you are the one fabricating stuff I have never said, and somehow you can read my mind and post what you perceive I think....

The problem I have with fans like you is you have this perfect vision of what every aspect of the Giants roster should look like, or how every player or every offense, defense, and ST should play every single Sunday and if it doesn't live up to your standard even though let's say, they fucking win the game, you're disappointed. All I have stated are concerns that just about everyone has stated.....but because Doomster dared to say it, it's the name that gets attacked, not the content.....I have read stuff that Eric and others have written, not favorable to the Giants, and most of BBI agrees or just accepts it.....and I know if I wrote the EXACT same thing, guys like you would have taken me over the coals for it....this team still has a way to go.....

As for those that don't think this DL is not getting gassed, look at time of possession and the number of snaps JPP and Vernon have on the field......because of lack of rotational depth, they have stayed out on the field too much......anyone that doesn't think there is a drop off when the likes of Bromley, Wynn, OO, and company come in, are crazy.....The same thing happened in 2008, when Strahan retired and Osi was hurt....guys like Tuck stayed out on the field too much, and by the end of the season, were gassed....not to mention the fact that, as I said before, Vernon and JPP are not 100%....
The truth is
AnnapolisMike : 11/27/2016 7:34 am : link
No one really has a clue.

They are 7-3....so you would think they will go 3-3 at the least. There are no Seattles or New Englands on the schedule that you can circle as a loss. But outside of today...any games you can circle as a win.

I'd be surprised if they do not get to 10-6 which should be enough for a wildcard. Losses to Minny and Washington could well come back to haunt them unfortunately.

Some thoughts
jpennyva : 11/27/2016 9:44 am : link
I don't think it is unreasonable to think the Giants might be able to catch Dallas. I think their rookies will hit a wall and once they face a couple of losses, who knows how they will react. No doubt Dallas will still go to the playoffs but I don't think they win out and I don't think they go deep into the playoffs.

I would not be surprised if Washington starts dealing with some internal strife if they continue to have games like the one they just played at Dallas where they generate yards but are undone by poor coaching mistakes such as icing your own kicker and poor clock management. The blame game may rear its head and they could falter as a result.

The Giants defense has been amazing and a large part of why the Giants are where they are. Hopefully, they continue to play well and keep the injuries to a minimum. While the Oline continues to be problematic, we know that the offense isn't even close to reaching its potential. Maybe they kick it into high gear to finish out the season which would definitely make the Giants a contender for the division if Dallas loses a few. I am hoping Vareen'ss return will help with the runnung game. In any case, I see they Giants getting into the playoffs. Of the remaining games, Detroit worries me the most. They are scrappy. I'd rather play Dallas in the first round.

I remain cautiously optimistic.
