Seriously? I haven't seen the dude smile in over 3 decades. He never looks happy to be anywhere, but there he is. He's always there. The only time I hear about him saying anything, it's always negative, a criticism, a gripe, ect.
When it comes to dusting off & propping up old sports heroes, I'd rather have Philly's Rocky statue. That thing at least looks to be kind of enjoying itself...or at least doesn't look down right miserable.
What's with the dude?
What the hell are you talking about, sonny?
Yeah, but without Tater Tots he'd be on suicide watch.
Can you say CTE?
Moody and demented wherever he goes
Hmmm...'I'm Gonna Git You Sucka' was ok.
Does he really bother you that much?
Does he really bother you that much?
Not bothered, just a curiosity. So it's an act?
Isn't that actually four words, LOL.
Met him a couple of times around the Combine - can't say he was either angry or happy - just really quiet, but the people I know say he's misunderstood because he isn't a typical star. Has always gone to the beat of his own drum - and was one of teh first black athletes to speak out about race (with Ali)
wanted a piece of him .He was to RB as LT was to LB ...
How dominant? Jim Taylor had Lombardi's schemes and four all pro players blocking for him.
In a 12 game season there's years where Taylor finished second with just over a thougsand yards. JImmy Brown was getting 1800 yards without a great line and if Taylor had Paul Horning to distract a defense , everyone concentrated on stopping Big Jim.
His records were eclipsed only because they went from a 12 to 16 game schedule. But his 5.4 yards per attempt still stands (tied by a QB).
They named the Browns after him so I guess he can go there when he wants. (Just kidding).
And you're wondering why they welcome back a HoF RB when all he has done is be cranky and outspoken?

Jim Brown's Best Sport? - ( New Window )
OJ finally crossed the line in a provable way, and once he gets out won't be getting many invitations, except from his parole officer. And he even smiles.
He did warm up to the conversation, which was mostly about Ernie Davis and what might have been. Couldn't stretch to say he was "nice," though. He was decent, which I took and ran! :)
I have, and on that occasion he was gracious, talkative and fucking huge.
Shucks ....one of the greatest athletes of all time...period.
That would have been a better question.
My two brothers 8 and 10 years old caddied for him, I just followed him around. He was extremely nice to my family and me.
He is also the greatest football player that ever lived.

I'll venture a guess that you haven't.

Yep. Sounds about right.

Yep. Again. Sounds about right.
I've met Mr. Brown on a few occasions at Syracuse and he actually played against my father in high school. He remembered my dad as they butted heads a few times.
For any of you who think he was just a dumb jock....go to Google and look up Jim Brown's net worth. You may be somewhat surprised.
On the flip side, he's done a lot of good. Watch his edition of "A Football Life". It shows both sides of the man. It's quite interesting.
No, and I saw your follow up post about a very positive personal experience that you had with him which is great. I do not think that I said the guy was an asshole nor did I say that he is never nice. In summary, my point is that he often has a chip on his shoulder.
Now, I have (like you) had personal experiences with others who were great to me as well. Mike Tyson, OJ Simpson, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, etc Many others too where others have had a far different experience than I did. A friend of mine is a well known sports autograph collector and when I was younger, I used to go with him to meet the athletes. I cannot tell you how many times we had a great experience with a guy who was known for being an asshole and then someone who is portrayed as being great is the one who turns out to be that asshole.
