NFT: Just finished watching The Tudors

Very good. I don't know how accurate it is but what a great show. An amazing part of history that shaped the world for centuries.

At the same time, incredibly brutal. The way they executed and tortured people is awful.

Is there a show that depicts what came next?
It's fictionalized history

But it's still history. Elizabeth I came next after a few sidelights.
Punishments depicted on TV don't come close to the actual

English punishments. And you would not want to see it--well most of you, anyway.

I think the U.S. Constitutional prohibition of "cruel and unusual punishments" had those English punishments in mind as many of them carried over into the American colonies.

I loved it.

It did get a bit tiring as the seasons wore on. Really grabbed me from an historical and dramatic perspective.

Have you seen Rome ? It was my favorite historical drama series that I have seen so far. Just fantastic characters and story.

Right now, I am watching The Fall, which I had never even heard of. Not historical, but British Crime procedural involving a serial killer in Belfast. Starring Gillian Anderson as the head investigator. It's fantastic, yet difficult to watch at times.
On Netflix?

That gave me a unique perspective of this show. The actress who played Anne Boylen gave me the chills. She looks like a younger version of the actress that played her on "six wives" and they gave her the same personality. Neither of them look like the real Anne Boylen and who knows what she was really like. Also some of the scenes in which Thomas Cromwell tortures his victims were copied verbatim from "Six wives" One big difference between the two , I thought is that the "Tudors" is much more sympathetic to the Catholic church and Catholic characters. In "Six Wives" the Bishop Gardiner ( Catholic ) is portrayed as a blood thirsty madman and Mary ( Catholic ) is a psychopath. Archbishop Cranmer ( Protestant ) is a hero. In the Tudors Gardiner is portrayed sympatheticly as is the Spanish ambassador. Catherine and Mary also are portrayed favorably. Even Pope Paul IV is portrayed in a good light. Cranmer is portrayed as an opportunist bureaucrat.

At least they both characterized Cromwell as an arch villain.
I saw "Six wives of Henry VIII" decades ago

meant to be the title of the previous post.
Loved The Tudors, although it dragged a bit....

towards the end. When I watched it, I had just been in London and seen the Tower where Anne Boleyn was executed, as well as the graves of many of the characters including Henry VIII. It made the series come to life for me.
Great show.

I blew through it in a week or so when I was sick a few months back.
