Did anyone buy theirs yet? I don't get the impression it will be as heavily attended on opening night as Episode VII, last year (which makes sense).
I am about to buy only on Fandango. Is it worth doing the IMAX 3D or Digital 3D, or just standard better?
Also, will there be "assigned seats" for this on opening night, or is it first come, first serve like any other movie?
It won't be as crazy as last years release but you will still need to get there early for a good seat. I actually enjoyed standing in line with my kids last year and decided to do it again.
From a few people that have supposedly screened it already they say it is the second best one. They say it is better then last years for sure.
Do you research with 3D, if a film isn't shot in 3D and just post-rendered, its usually not that good. Movies like Avatar are filmed in 3D and are the only ones I'd bother to see.
I recommend IMAX 3D, and as to assigned seating:
Fandango will show you a map of the seats to choose from if the theater provides assigned seating. If you did not choose seats, be sure to get there and get in line at least 30 min early.

I actually disagree. IMO, IMAX 3D movies done in post don't really add anything crazy, but add just enough depth to make it slightly more immersive.
I saw Doctor Strange opening night in IMAX 3D and all of the psychedelic scenes were incredible. Saw it again with my gf's family over Thanksgiving on a regular DLP screen and didn't enjoy those scenes nearly as much.

every theater by me isn't offering IMAX without 3D so I'm just seeing it on a regular screen. If its good and the reviews for 3D are good, i'll see it a second time.

It's definitely a personal preference, I just find the typical overlayed 3D to be distracting and/or will give me a headache. I did hear good things about Dr. Strange in 3D, however, so I can't completely say I'd never do it, I just don't understand why its so hard to to find theaters playing movies in 2D IMax (my biggest gripe).
