Colin Cowherd calls NY Giants total frauds.......

sxdxca : 11/29/2016 11:36 pm
He says they are the worst team in the division. Says Eagles , Washington , and Dallas are all better. Cowherd says they should be 4th in there division. Starts laughing that they beat Dak Prescott in his first game for Dallas...That's how bad they are.

You can watch yourself , I posted the link below. Curious what you guys think of this person?

We are not the worst team in the division. That's silly. We're clearly better than Philly and probably better than Washington. The defense is the best in the division for my money. The offense might be the worst, but a better defense is more important.

Also, if we can get the running game going (and I think we can) then things change dramatically in our favor.
They aren't frauds

But their record may overstate their overall team strength.
That's just the reality we discuss on BBI every day.
Unless they beat Pitt this week his point will seem to be validated right away; unless they take 3 of the final 5 it will be at season end as well.
That said, at 8-3, fans expect a playoff, and any major fade that knocks them out of playoffs will be that much more a disappointment on this season.
The O really needs to improve the way the D seems to have. The O owes it to the D for carrying them this season. Mc and Sullivan better find something that works: these 5 opponents can tire out our D physically as well as on TOP.
All that said, the NYFG sure are learning how to win ugly and building some swag. Confidence helps win games.
In any case, at the moment, their record indicates they are what their record says they are.
These are the current bandwagon story for

The Giants and Steelers matchup pretty well. Our defense is a good and a real test for the Steelers offense. The Steelers defense isn't great and neither is our offense. The game may come down to coaching, where obviously Tomlin enjoys a big advantage in both experience and achievement and it may come down to Teams where our kicker is suspect and our punter has been a bit unpredictable (though I honestly don't know how Teams have been for the Iron City this year). Anyone who thinks this game is a mismatch hasn't been paying much attention to either team this season.

Anyway, Giants can only play the teams on their schedule. Not sure what Coward expects from the Giants.
Not an individual worth addressing.
Overseer : 11/30/2016 1:13 am : link
but what the hell...

"Total frauds". That's the phrase he emphatically chose. Let's be generous and concede that the running game sucks (it does), the Oline is suspect (it is), and Odell & Eli are overwhelming responsible for moving the ball on offense (they are).

"Total" frauds. Meaning complete, across the board. Has he not been watching the defense? JPP, Collins, Jenkins, Harrison...they are objectively playing great football (although Jenkins has cooled off a bit). Vernon heating up big time. And the defense is getting stops and making game changing plays...Collins v Rams & Eagles, JPP v Cleveland, the swarming Dline v Cincy, Hankins block/Jenkins return v New Orleans.

So he either doesn't know what he's watching, just utterly clueless. Or he's deliberately employing hyperbolic language in order to...

Oh fuck it...forget this entire post and just read my subject line.

Yuck. nothing new. The Giants always get dismissed by idiots in the media. That's the way it has always been since i've been around. Either way, guys like Skip Bayless, Colin Cowherd, Boomer and Carlton or whatever his name is are all just trolls making $ on trolling and talking in generalities. I've been in sports radio, it's pretty lame and I can honestly say I hate it now more than ever. SO boring. Who would listen to these people? It's about ratings and people sadly get suckered in.

We have one or two posts like these every month about what some radio guy said. If I remember correctly Colin was stroking his bone over Chip Kelly constantly, all day everyday when he was coaching the Eagles. His radio shows are so fucking boring.

The Giants were most intimidating when the offense with Eli and the 3WR sets were doing damage, like in 2011/early 2012. Defenses on average get stronger in the playoffs, which was enough back then for the Giants to beat teams.

Giants defense is currently good, but it will need to become top 5 shutdown IMO if the Giants are going to be a high level NFC threat in the postseason based on the current offense.

I honestly think the Giants biggest threat in the postseason isn't Seattle, but maybe Atlanta or another NFC East team.

Seattle is definitely a team to beat, not sure if they are the end all be all, but they have a defense, a QB that is very tough to bring down and can carry that team, a Tight End that could shred us, and if the running game gets going a long with a game in Seattle...good night most teams.

That is a very difficult team to beat and it kicks up a notch in Seattle. It could very well be Dallas/Seattle in the NFC Championship.

Though if the Giants defense continues its upward trend and the Giants can start mustering a better offense we can hang with anyone, anytime, any place.

I disagree. The best way to shut them up is to ignore them. Don't watch, don't click, don't retweet. It's a Cartesian thing: we look therefore they are.

As for some talking head calling the Giants frauds, who cares? The first three months of the regular season are for accumulating wins and filling airtime. If the Giants have been a relatively unimpressive 8-3 team, the quality of their play through November is now relevant only to the extent it suggests how they are likely to perform in December and beyond. Obviously, the offense needs to improve. Vereen, Pugh and others offer some hope on that side of the ball, and there's always a chance Eli will go on a tear. The defense needs to cut down on big plays. Maybe Adams will step up as he settles in; maybe the pass rush and the four bigger names in the secondary will cover up his deficiencies better. The more of these variables that break the Giants' way, the better their chances of making some noise down the stretch.

The whole "fraud" thing is silly. The Giants don't claim to be anything they aren't. Calling them a fraud is just a click-bait way of saying that from week to week, they haven't looked like most people's idea of an 8-3 team. So, in a parity-driven league, what's an 8-3 team? It's a team that's within a few bounces of being 3-8... or 10-1.

You realize the Giants have the number one or at the very least top three defense in all the league in goal line defense. They were number one for most of the year. I don't think they have dropped off much if any at all. With that said I think that is even more important the their overall ranking.

As for Colin Cowshit, if you listen to the guy he is the most opinionated asshole I have ever heard, no pun intended, on the radio. This is the NFL. Lest he forgets that old axiom on any given Sunday if you you don't come out to play you will get beat.

To compare opinions Francesa's take has really surprised me with regards to the Giants. He sees a team that he believes for all its imperfections is ascending in that it is not satisfied and knows they can improve as they navigate their way to hopefully a playoff spot. So it keeps them from becoming complacent.

I fully expected him to lambaste the Giants for their effort against the Browns. But that wasn't the case. He likes what they are doing apparently, and feels they are having a terrific season and are a team that bares watching.

We all know Mike is cantankerous and opinionated himself but he sees something in the Giants and obviously would not characterize them as frauds. Which is stupid because you have to earn every win in this league. And that's just what the Giants have been doing. So for mister Cowshit, I'll see you in my vegetable garden next spring as I ready it for planting.

Cowherd story again. We were at a sales meeting in Naples, FL working out before the day started and Cowherd comes into the resort gym. Starts preening in front of the mirror and then gets on the treadmill. I'm with 3 co-workers and we are chatting about sports. Cowherd realizes he's not part of the conversation, so he tries to angle in asking if we saw a NBA game the night before. We replied no - we were watching hockey and kept about our business. At this point, we have no clue who he is - and it would have stayed that way except - - -

He starts asking why we were watching hockey and making jabs. Finally, one of the guys I'm with is like, "Cool, dude. Thanks for the input". But Cowherd kept going and eventually pulls out the card - "Do you know who I am?"

None of us did, so he said, "I'm Colin Cowherd. ESPN. The Herd." Same guy in our group was like, "Cool". That's the last thing we said to him. Funny thing is one guy in our group didn't hadn't even heard of him. And another guy was a former NFL kicker and all he said was - you don't see me going around telling people who the hell I am!

While I am certain he was going for shock value, I do not view him as anti-Giants. I know plenty of Giants' fans who are not impressed with the way this team has been playing. The offense has been poor to average all year. The OL is hurt and even when healthy not very good. No TEs. Special teams are a disaster waiting to happen each game. The defense gets pushed around until the red zone and late in games. Yet, they are winning. That is really what matters.

It is encouraging to me that they win while playing poorly. They win with young players who will get better and with a veteran QB who has not played particularly well yet, but goes on streaks when he can be among the best. The OL will get healthy and the RBs will improve with repetition. At this point my only concern is with the coach and the ultra-conservative approach on offense. That is where I see potential disaster lurking.

The Giant's offense is scary, to Giants fans. It does say something that they couldn't put up 300 yards on the Browns. The Giants run game is non-existant, and they do make a lot of mistakes. 9 punts? Wow.
The bright side is that they have won a lot of games they would have lost last season and the season before. They have always played to their competition, so I could see them beating Pittsburgh, or at the very least, losing by less than a FG.
I like it. these clowns love shocking takes, they take a little bit of info and make teams either overrated or phony world beaters. They have done that with Dallas for years. The year Dallas is finally good, they can't give credit to anyone else. They're phonies.

I hate listening to Cowherd....but he has never had an anti Giants bias. I've been hoping the Giants have been sandbagging on offense a bit. The Pittsburgh game will be a nice yardstick to see if they can turn it up a notch. Win and the playoffs are more of a lock....a loss combined with Minny and Washington wins will mean panic on the streets of BBI.

What the fuck does that mean anyway. No team is a fraud. It's to convenient to simply say something so opaque. You want to say I don't think they can get to where they want to go because the offense stinks fine. But there are three elements to every team. Were the 2000 Ravens frauds because they hadn't scored an offensive touchdown in their first six games! Shit, the won the Super Bowl for crying out loud. They had a killer defense.

In a sport like pro football to call a team frauds is about as obtuse an opinion one can give. And if it is to attract attention to yourself to make you look like a higher authority then he's the fucking fraud.

but there are many of us here who are, rightfully, imo, skeptical as to what this Giants team can achieve over the next five weeks...and beyond? AnnapolisMike's signature thread yesterday, which excited some opposing views, Mike in LB, Jeffrey, bceagles, etc., we're not Giants bashers.

The eye test goes a long way, and the offensive struggles are hard to stomach, game after game, until they disappear for a series or two, enough for OBJ to perform some of his magic.

Someone above called our d "great" and compared it to the Ravens' d in our SB against them. Really? Our d has improved a lot, but it still cannot defend the crossing routes and good TEs on seam routes because our LBs, while improved as a unit, are still quite challenged in coverage and our FS position is, once again, up in the air.

Yes, most teams are flawed and not 100% sound in all phases, and we have more than our share of warts. It's not a giant leap to remain skeptical and still want the best outcome.
We will all find out in the next five weeks.
rocco8112 : 11/30/2016 10:25 am : link
This D looks legit to me. They are scoring, making plays and getting stops to win games and hold leads when the offense is shitting the bed for long stretches.

Granted, the competition level is about to rise, but I do not think this defense will be getting steamrolled anytime soon. Looking forward to Sunday, if you listen to the media you would think the Steelers were some unbeatable juggernaut. Absurd, the Giants can definitely pull this one out on the road. They could lose it to, but I do not think the Giants are going to get exposed as a paper tiger and get blown out of the stadium this Sunday.

In AFC, he seems to have predicted correctly on Raiders, Pats, KC and Steelers. Missed on Colts and Jets

In NFC, he has Cowboys, Seattle and I will give him Minn. Missed on GB, Carolina and Arizona.

not too bad...

If the Giants really have a top goal line defense that is impressive. We saw how a good goal line defense saved the Seahawks from losing to the Cardinals and a few other teams.

I know the Seahawks all too well. They were "scary" in 2013, half of 2014 and maybe even a chunk of 2015.

What hasn't changed is their fight. They are unbreakable spirit wise.

But you can move the ball on their defense these days, even in Seattle. Not move the ball at will with ease, but better than what it used to be when top offenses would get embarrassed regularly in their stadium.

Wilson is ok and can make plays, but won't frighten you if you have a decent defense. Their run game is not as consistent as it used to be.

Saints, Dolphins, Bucs, Rams all made them look ordinary offensively. That's what the Seahawk offense will look like in January much more than what it did recently in New England, against Philly, against Buffalo.

I had never heard of him until he was brought up here

And since I never watch or listen to ESPN I still wouldn't know who he was except for reading about him here.
Giants wins are not coming very easily

but I keep remembering Phil Simms statement when he said that fans don't really understand how hard it is to win a game in the NFL...
The problem I have is that when he gives his top 10 teams,
shockeyisthebest8056 : 11/30/2016 4:54 pm : link
not only are the Giants missing from that group, they're 2-1 in their 3 games against those top 10 teams. He likes to think he's on a different intelligence level when looking at these things when he's just like everyone else. He's going by a completely arbitrary eye test.
the only thing that matters

and will define the Giants for who they are the remaining opponents on the schedule and if we can beat them.

One of the great things about football, a score and record is kept and as someone use to say, you cannot hide from your record.
I just hope we keep winning

by the slimmest of margins and they keep thinking we "just got lucky"

My dream is, following the Dallas game, the experts are calling us the worst 10-3 team in the history of the NFL.
Year after year we fall into the same trap of "style points".
Ten Ton Hammer : 11/30/2016 7:00 pm : link
Don't understand it at all. The last fanbase that should care about the look and feel of wins, or the idea that "style points" can predict future success, are Giants fans.
The Giants didn't hang 300 yards on the browns
djm : 11/30/2016 7:18 pm : link
And that concerns you?

They didn't have to hang 300 yards on the browns. Doesn't that matter? In my opinion it most definitely does.

The Giants offense was good enough during this 6 game winning streak. That's all that fucking matters. Until the offense loses a game I'm not going to condemn them.
get to the playoffs and we can answer questions there
chris r : 11/30/2016 7:21 pm : link
you can say that winning a lot of close games involves luck and does not necessarily reflect how good the team is. You can also say that winning a lot of close games prepares a team for the adversity they may face in the playoffs.
I just hope
JOrthman : 11/30/2016 7:22 pm : link
I just hope we are able to make the BCS title game.
And if the Giants are "frauds"
djm : 11/30/2016 7:25 pm : link
Then every team not named Dallas, pats and maybe KC and the Raiders are frauds.

This shit is pointless it means nothing but it sucks that there's very little actual worthwhile NFL content on the air. I can get more from the hammer drunk Dallas fan in a bar down the street.
