Very interesting Gidie..
EricJ : 11/30/2016 7:33 am : link
I know what we saw was just two clips of him dominating in that situation. If there are no instances of him getting beaten and exposing Eli, then I really think he will have to be the starter by the end of the season.

How could the coaches not promote him if he is carrying the ball better than Jennings, he is doing well receiving and turning those opportunities into yards... and now pass protecting well?
here's another angle

The coaching staff is doing well with the rookies, IMO
jcn56 : 11/30/2016 7:35 am : link
Apple has played well with some blotches here and there. Shepherd has 5 receiving TDs if not a lot of yards, Thompson was promising until he was injured, and Perkins and Adams have come along well for later round picks.

If we could see some development out of Goodson this would really have been a great year for talent infusion/development.
Because Jennings
UConn4523 : 11/30/2016 7:49 am : link
will be splitting time anyway, why demote your veteran starter who's going to still get carries? Jennings has complete trust as well, especially from Eli I'm guessing.
Great find

Surprisingly, the Giants allocated the 6th highest cap space to HB's in the NFL. Perkins stepping will likely force Vereen to take a pay cut. All space helps.
Yes, He PANCAKED a defender on one play
ZogZerg : 11/30/2016 8:06 am : link
It sounds like he is making some real progress.
Really 6th highest? I guess Vereen and Jennings
Jimmy Googs : 11/30/2016 8:06 am : link
do make decent money as they have been around the block a bit.

I suppose they earn it though, running behind that O-line...
OK, maybe the defender tripped
ZogZerg : 11/30/2016 8:08 am : link
But, Perkins caused it.

Note the awesome hook/hold by Jerry when his man spins.

Equal credit should go to Richburg for being bullied and pushed back. Perkins only walks the defender across the back of the line of scrimmage and the defender trips on Richburg.
I saw one where he just pancaked a blitzer

Gidie - i think this is a different play than the first one you posted. Same theme though, Perkins doing a good job in pass protection.

And sadly, one or more O-lineman not...
That is how you earn game reps

good stuff and great to see. this is how rookie RBs

get playing time.
sorry, JonC already said that.

we regret the error :-)
What I like
PEEJ : 11/30/2016 8:41 am : link
is that Perkins is aggressive going after the blitzer. He doesn't wait to engage, he delivers the blow. He's got some "sand in his pants"
The best rb at picking up blitzers was Brandon Jacobs.
Ira : 11/30/2016 8:44 am : link
Opposing linebackers didn't want a piece of him. It's good to see Perkins doing well at it, now.
Tiki was pretty damn good at it too.
Victor in CT : 11/30/2016 8:45 am : link
but agree, Jacobs was like running into a brick wall.

Vereen's cap hit is almost $5M. Jennings is ~$2.8M.

Only AP ($14M) and McCoy ($8M) have a higher average cap hit than the 2 of them combined at the RB position.

I love watching Jacobs stuff Rodney Harrison's blitz in SB XLII on the TD pass to Plaxico!

They can move on from Jennings after this season, one notch
above a JAG. He is also not durable, contrary to what some
think on here. Last season was the first time he made it
thru a full season in his career!
He has missed what 3 games this year,
and about 5 games in 2014. They should draft another
RB later in the draft. They are paying Vereen a lot for a
3rd down back, can't see another signing.
this is why I found the

"Perkins is a poor blocker" in the preseason cringeworthy. there are 2 types of blockers - guys who are willing, and guys who aren't. Perk has the "will" to block - in preseason he just didn't know what to do because he didn't know the offense yet.

That said, this block is still not how you'd draw it up (he should've angled the guy outside to maintain the pocket) but you can't teach a guy to be willing to bury his helmet in a linebackers chest. Perkins is, and has been. The rest is just technique and a natural feel for the game and he has that.

Cause the Browns Linebackers are awful. Let's see some consistency. I hope you are correct and he is the starter
If Jennings was playing like shit the last 3 weeks
djm : 11/30/2016 12:11 pm : link
I would be screaming for Perkins to get more burn but Jennings have been effective lately. Let them push each other.
Not suggesting they overwhelm Perkins but
Jimmy Googs : 11/30/2016 12:20 pm : link
imv the Giants are being complacent with Jennings to some degree.

I thought there were some noticeable holes (particularly on left edge) versus Cleveland but Jennings is too slow to take advantage of it. Not saying Perkins is lighting it up out there yet but, with our O-line, you hate to miss any opportunities for some running production.

He's going to be our next
Damon : 11/30/2016 12:24 pm : link
Bradshaw... Love him.
There is no need to cut Vereen
SLIM_ : 11/30/2016 12:25 pm : link
He makes $3.1 in salary next year. Jennings on the other hand probably makes sense at $2.4. Both in the last years but Jennings is older and Vereen is a good fit for this offense.

Perkins has shown enough where you can go into next year expecting him to be part of a rotation with Vereen.

Darkwa probably goes. We would then draft a back or 2 and go heavy into the UFA or younger free agents with potential.
Anyone else see the facemask
giantgiantfan : 11/30/2016 1:30 pm : link
grabbing from the linebacker there? Shoulda been a 15 yard penalty on the LB. Perkins handled him.
Not Bradshaw.
x meadowlander : 11/30/2016 1:36 pm : link
Different style altogether.

Perkins is a smooth runner who looks slower than he is. Great vision, good power - but to me - lacks 'explosion'.

Am I wrong, or does he accelerate slower than most elite backs?

I watch highlights... I just don't see the explosion and the dynamite quickness I like in a back with Perkins - like Beckham - I see quickness and acceleration with Odell that I simply don't see with Perkins.

Can someone point me to highlights that prove me wrong? (I want to be wrong)
That was Jamie Collins though
Joey in VA : 11/30/2016 2:07 pm : link
Who despite his ability is one lazy ass player
I loved the way Jacobs would "chip"DEs ....
Manny in CA : 11/30/2016 8:50 pm : link

On the way, out of the backfield. He would literally rattle teeth, as hard as he would hit them ...

And blitzing linebackers, at 270+ he would destroy them.
