I thought about this after the Saints/Broncos game.
If a team is kicking an extra POINT, why should the team
who blocks the attempt, get TWO points by running it back?
Now, I can see if an attempt at a two point conversion is
intercepted and run back the other way. They should get two points, it was a two point conversion.
Initially, I thought they were reinventing the wheel so to speak by moving the extra point back, but it has grown on me.
I would like to see the Competition Committee tweak it slightly though, how about you?
Adds several exciting potential scoring plays every game and eliminates a still near automatic play.
Overall scoring would stay about the same (2 pt conversion is about 45% to 50% overall success rate).
You'd also get fewer tie games, less overtime.
I think it's a significant problem. They're putting more emphasis on the extra point so, like you said, the game/season, etc comes down to a person who really isn't a football player. Field goals are a huge part of the game yet I'm not a fan of tweaking this extra point.
It's not apples to apples but imagine a tight soccer game tweaking their rules and decided by somebody throwing the ball. Doesn't seem right.
The only thing I think would be interesting if you moved the XP back to it original spot and had the person who scored the TD have attempt the XP instead of the professional kicker I could support that then it would be a true attempt for a extra point by a player
For ratings, I'd have a separate day at the combine for dancing, evaluated by Judges, etc. Only makes sense the better dancers get drafted earlier.
Quote:
The kicking team should have to do an interpretive dance routine relating to how much they need the points. If the average score of five celebrity judges is over 7.5 on a ten point scale, the ensuing try is worth two points instead of one.

In this scenario the refs should be able to overrule the judges in case the dancers take it to the point of being offensive by current NFL standards. Also watch for helmets being removed.
He can also dunk a basketball, saw it with my own eyes.
A buddy of mine went to BC back in the day. After he
was done matriculating, they allowed (back then)
the grads to play hoops at their gym/arena.
I got to play some hoops with Flutie, great athlete.
Also, I played some Junior College hoops back in the day.

Because if it's a bad snap and the holder is forced to scramble for the endzone, it would count as two points for the kicking team.
True, but if the kick is blocked, not a fan of the other
team getting two points by running it back.
If the kick goes thru the uprights, it's one point.
I feel that's the part that should be tweaked.
The game I mentioned on this thread, pretty crappy way
to lose a game right?
I like it this way.
This is really silly. You need to drop the high and low scores because there is always at least one crooked judge.
I like this the best. Use historical 4th down data to find where the 2 point los should be.

Team can choose 1 pt conversion from the 2 yd line or 2 pt conversion from the 7 (or whatever yard line)

Might as well get rid of kickers and FGs entirely under this approach.
The soccer analogy above is really poor - yes let's emulate a sport that decides world cup playoff matches via skills competitions (e.g., penalty shots).
Not to mention who says kickers arent "real" football players? Kicking is a part of the game. You could say "team picked him up day before" about any player on the field. Didnt Pittsburgh's practice squad RB join the team in the playoffs last year and fumble the game away against Denver?
1. Kick it from the 10 for 1 pt
2. Score from the 10 for 3 pts
And more so if he is cap friendly.
Anyone have a master list of kickers salaries?
