Jints 6.5 pt dogs in rainy Pittsburgh this Sunday

Cruzin : 11/30/2016 10:16 am
4:25 game

70% chance of rain

6 mph winds

High 45, low 37

That sounds about right, I'll take the Giants 45, Steelers 37
Don't love the matchup
JonC : 11/30/2016 10:17 am : link
given Steelers really need a win, and NYG's got bigger fish to fry a week later.
Rainy?
bouchy24 : 11/30/2016 10:18 am : link
A solid run game would sure be lovely.
Short passing game works well in the rain
Cruzin : 11/30/2016 10:23 am : link

Timmons and Shazier will have to react to the ball carrier who knows where he's going.
I'd like to see more 6 OL sets
sjnyfan : 11/30/2016 10:27 am : link
like the Eagles game. That would help for a rainy day but it's also good to run the clock and keep the ball out of the hands of Pittsburgh's offense, no matter the weather.
Giants 45?
x meadowlander : 11/30/2016 10:28 am : link
That's a 2-week total for this offense.

We win if we hold the Steelers under 20. Doable. Not likely, but doable.

So far this season, the Eagles, Dolphins, Patriots and Ravens have held Pittsburgh under 20. So I REALLY like the Giants odds of being able to do that.

But can we score over 20?

So far this season, the Cowboys, Eagles, Dolphins, Patriots and Ravens have scored over 20 against Pittsburgh.

Again, I really like our odds.

GIANTS 23, STEELERS 20.
Yeah,

Cruzin : 11/30/2016 10:33 am : link

I would have said Jints 35 Steelers 27 but that would have meant freezing rain or snow. Rain is better than snow.

6.5?
Chris in Philly : 11/30/2016 10:39 am : link
That's a Steelers line if I ever saw one. Damn...
JD, yes,
ColHowPepper : 11/30/2016 10:42 am : link
that's what I was going to respond to cruzin's post with re. "short passing game works well" in the rain and Timmons and Shazier having to contend. Ours LBs are not so swift a group, in coverage or quality.
Answer for Bell
Cruzin : 11/30/2016 10:45 am : link

Keenan Robinson and Landin Collins.

With the exception of the Cowboys game,
DonQuixote : 11/30/2016 10:47 am : link
the Steelers have been winning big or losing big. It is tough to know which team will show up. This is obviously a big week for the Giants.
Time to surprise some people and win another one against
yatqb : 11/30/2016 10:49 am : link
a decent team. WE can do this: 27 -23.
Spread is from Westgate Superbook
Cruzin : 11/30/2016 10:50 am : link

You can get 6.0 and 5.5 elsewhere.

O/U steady at 49
I haven't watched Pitt too closely,
NoPeanutz : 11/30/2016 10:55 am : link
but I'd think that they're more dependent on the deep passing game than the Giants. They HAVE to run Bell in the rain, to one of our strengths. The Giants, against a weak Pittsburgh Defense, may have a chance to establish the run in the rain (which they might otherwise be tempted to avoid) and open up the passing game underneath. Ben extending plays with his size isn't going to worth as much when the rain hampers the deep ball.
bad for the Giants if the weather is bad. Pittsburgh can run it.
Victor in CT : 11/30/2016 10:55 am : link
The Giants can't.

If they have to lose a game this is the one that hurts least since is out of conference. The rest are all NFC, with 3 in the East, one against a possibly WC rival vs. DET.
Giants and 45 shouldn't be in the same sentence.
Victor in CT : 11/30/2016 10:57 am : link
just silly
Take the Giants
rdt288 : 11/30/2016 11:07 am : link
We have lost our last game.
Hate that line....
Britt in VA : 11/30/2016 11:21 am : link
not liking our chances.
45 what?
Jimmy Googs : 11/30/2016 11:30 am : link
This team had like 12 first downs against the winless Browns.

I agree we have a couple of players that can get into shoot-outs, but that point total presumes the Steeler's safeties never heard of a guy named OBJ...
Remember when
NYBEN1963 : 11/30/2016 11:34 am : link
Giants fans prayed for bad weather because we knew it would be our kind of game ...
Are there any events on the field on Saturday?
Diver_Down : 11/30/2016 11:34 am : link
Steelers field gets torn up especially if it is wet. In years past, they have held other events on the field before the week's game.
Shazier
Damon : 11/30/2016 11:40 am : link
Scares me... The Giants D will be up for this one... Bell will likely do more as a receiver than on the ground... But every time I watch the Steelers... Shazier is a beast.. Some stupid tipped INT or a forced fumble will be the thing that swings this game... Need to be perfect with our quick passing game.
We win this and sky is the limit IMO
bradshaw44 : 11/30/2016 11:43 am : link
This will show this team has grit and can win on the road against a good desperate team.

I like Shazier, but he plays with reckless abandon that has hurt him in the past. I think he was out earlier this year for a concussion.
Cowherd isn't wrong either, much as I hate to admit it
Ivan15 : 11/30/2016 11:54 am : link
Giants need a "signature" win to prove to everyone that they are a playoff caliber team.

If they don't do it this week, they will need to win the next two to prove they aren't frauds.

Being an underdog in bad weather is not a bad thing.

....and if they lose on Sunday, are there any more fish left to fry the following week?

The Giants have 1 chance to make next week's game important..they have to beat Pittsburgh AND most probably every other game on their schedule.

I don't know if they are capable of it, but if the players allow themselves to overlook any team, this season can turn to crap in a hurry.

The positive out of playing poorly the last 2 weeks (and still winning) is that the team did not give themselves an excuse to get cocky....I hope.

It's been a fun season so far. I hope it continues, and the team's performance improves.

The Cowboys game doesn't mean as much if we lose ground by losing to the Steelers. No reason to look ahead.
The last time the Steelers beat a halfway decent NFL QB

Serious question....have you picked the Giants to win a game this season? Or better yet, have you picked them to even be competitive in any game?
6.5 dogs
blueblood'11 : 11/30/2016 4:00 pm : link
I have know idea what the people who made those odds see that would lead one to think the Steelers are that much better then the Giants. Their defense is not that good. And about the only advantage they may have, and it is not a substantial one, is their running game which has not produced that well in recent weeks either.

The Giants are good against the run and other then their all world wide receiver, which oh by the way, we have one too, I think the biggest factor is Ben's ability to keep the play alive. 6.5 is a huge number in NFL parlance. It suggests the Giants are more Cleveland Browns then a solid NFL team driving for the playoffs. I will be shocked if this isn't a field goal game. I don't think the Steelers are the better team either. I've watched them and I'm not that impressed.

As for Shazier
blueblood'11 : 11/30/2016 4:08 pm : link
Yeah he's a beast. But so is JPP. And Landon Collins who is making the case for being the best safety in the league. And Vernon is coming on strong too. So Shazier may scare you. But our guys should scare the hell out of the Steelers fans as well. JPP has been a beast. And the Steelers will have their hands full with him.

Well, if you believe the number is off, there are places you can go to put a few bucks down and see if you are correct in that assessment.
I don't know
djm : 11/30/2016 5:13 pm : link
I feel like the Giants need this game every bit as much as Pitt does. If anything we are splitting hairs. Pitt is in a pretty average division this season and currently tied for first. Granted, they lose tiebreakers to the Ravens but they play each other again. I know the WC teams all look to be coming out of the AFC West but Pitt could lose this game sunday and wake up Monday still tied for first. And the Ravens schedule is not easy here on out.

I don't like to put too much stock in the whole desperate team thing but I think NYG and Pitt both have an equal amount at stake this Sunday.
This game is important..
Sean : 11/30/2016 5:31 pm : link
there is not one gimme on the remaining schedule & it will be very tough to beat a 10-1 Dallas team twice in the same year. While this game is tough, if they lose this game we could very well be staring at 8-5 with a must win against a dangerous Lions team. Let's say we beat Detroit, then we have a must win against either Philly or Washington on the road.

Wins are very important, the faster to 10 the better.
Too many points, Pitts is not that good and we get no respect

I think the Giants win a close one, but comfortably.
VKS
Simms : 11/30/2016 6:05 pm : link
This type of game reminds me of the Giants vs Viks matchup, but worse.

We have to play the best game of the year to win this game.

Agree some could be looking ahead to Dallas too, just because.
If are real this game is our chance to step up. Especially how we played down a level against the Bears and Browns.

Bell, Browm, their TE ... our hands are going to be full. Need to be furious and (I know) turnover free.
2 TEs
Cruzin : 11/30/2016 6:26 pm : link

Jesse James and LaDarius Green, the latter just rounding into football shape after missing most of the year so far.

They'll be dangerous on 3rd down conversions and in the Red Zone.

Can't forget about Eli Rogers either. I wonder if there have been any NFL games with 3 Elis playing before this one.

Pitt's got a lot of weapons but nothing a pass rush won't take away.
If Dallas loses 2 in a row
x meadowlander : 11/30/2016 7:28 pm : link
Will fans start calling for Romo? :)
Hmmm, I see the point
JonC : 12/1/2016 7:24 am : link
But by the end of the season, an AFC loss tends to mean little. On the whole, this is the game remaining they can most afford to lose.

The Turf
pivo : 12/3/2016 2:52 am : link
Playing Surface: The turf is a blend of four varieties of Kentucky Bluegrass, covering just over two acres. The soil is a twelve inch, sand-based rootzone, meeting USGA specifications for particle size. Under the rootzone approximately 40 miles of ¾ inch piping heat the soil. Below the heating system there is a four inch layer of pea gravel that contains drain pipes that empty into a 22 inch collector pipe that surrounds the perimeter of the field.

Shouldn't be a mudbowl. Good to know in meets USGA specifications though...
