but he does seem to be improving, as does Hart. If Richburg and Flowers can play near a level representative of their draft position, we might be OK when Pugh returns. Easier said than done though.
RE: Send all of our offensive linemen to LeCharles Bentley.
Because Jerry is so soft in run blocking, he would be a better fit at LG than RG; and on this team Pugh is the LG. Long term, Jerry's role on this team should be as a backup, and the team should look for a road grader to play RG (something the team has been lacking since Snee retired).

Agreed Jerry played at LG with Miami but Pugh is also a better fit at LG.
Pugh is our best lineman and it isn't close. Even with Pugh out Richburg has stepped it up from a slow start. Jerry is a decent pass blocker but his run blocking sucks. We're one of the worst teams in the league when running to the right side.
Jerry has done an admirable job since he's been in blue but he was brought in as a backup and in an ideal situation that's where he would be now.
or that he is the best? Very different statements.
How different? He said he's been our best OL this year.
That isn't what you said in your OP which is why I asked to clarify.
It actually is what I said. But ok...
I won't get into a semantics battle. Point is Jerry may be playing some good football, but there's no way he's our best linemen and I'm guessing there's no way Diehl actually thinks that.
In fact our lines biggest weakness is at the Tackle spot but even that could improve if Flowers keeps blossoming. We have a chance to come together kind of like the line did at the end of 2011 which was a big factor in our playoff run.
He isn't very good blocking straight up in the run game
Jerry was a decent pass blocker who is absolutely massive that previously had sucked at run blocking. He in the past would inexplicably utterly shit the bed on random plays as well. The offensive line has regressed at spots and been injured at many others. The offense in general can't run the ball or keep Eli consistently clean for long-developing plays.
So John Jerry being the best of a below average bunch that has had a lot of struggles in 2016 makes a lot of sense.
Richburg has had a subpar season for him.
Pugh has been hurt
Hart is a rookie
Flowers has alternated between serviceable and atrocious
Newhouse has been hurt and struggled
The rest are depth guys
and productive on traps run left OT and when he pulls, mostly left, on modified sweeps. He has been taking good angles and seems to have his assignments down pretty darn well. As noted, he's less productive on straight-ahead blocking in the run game. It's been a bit of a mixed bag, but when the Giants run those inside traps two or three times a game, more often than not there is a good hole inside of where LG (whether Pugh, Jones, or Gettis) has moved to seal.
but I have said for the past 2 1/2 years that Jerry has been one of our top 3 lineman for each year he has been here. This is despite getting constantly crapped on.
That lies the problem, he is a journeyman type player. He'd be fine as your 5th lineman, could probably have a good line with him as your 4th. As a 3 or better, your line probably will struggle to be acceptable.
When he is your 1 or 2 and you don't have a experienced tight end who can block, no full back and small wide receivers; you are going to struggle to run the ball.
Around here. He has been much better this year than last, at least at run blocking and pulling. I think Pugh is better but I would put him as next followed by Richburg, Hart and then Flowers. Athletically speaking, Flowers if he cleans up his technique could easily become our best lineman. IMO.
Is it a concern Jerry is better than Weston Richburg?
The market has spoken on Jerry: we signed him cheap, then re-signed him cheap. 2 years, $3.3M, $1M guaranteed.
since Pugh went down and we had the carousel of replacements? Overall, I think not.
Best OL on the Giants is a mighty low bar this year.
Ha, sadly it's tough to argue this... though I do really wonder how much negative focus would be taken off of the OL with better (well, more creative) play calling, Nikita Whitlock/Will Johnson, and better blocking from the TE spot.
With him, I have been watching Richburg closely and he gets pushed into the backfield way too much and I am really disappointed in his progress or lack of progress, Flowers is simply not a very good left tackle and I hope he really improves next season or we need to go get a left tackle, Hart has been pretty darn good, and to be honest, I thought Newhouse did good at left guard as did Jones. So I have to say that Jerry has been the best and most consistent this season.
Be careful Giantology I got called out for calling someone Brain Dead

Anyways I think PUGH has had the most consistant season and
Jerry has played well at least he made the attempt to work
on his trade .. Richberg has problems with the bigger DT's
he doesn't get a hell of a lot of movement on run plays
and gets pushed back more than he should I mean how often
do you see Eli be able to take his drop and step into his
throws ? When he does good things usually happen .
Flowers has trouble with speed rushers but is getting better minus the holding calls and I would argue that he
doesn't get benefit of the doubt . Last week or the week
before he tossed some one down got flagged in no way any
different thaen Tyrone Smith does 3-4 times a game .
He's been one of the best pass blocking guards in the NFC this year and his run blocking isn't great but isn't bottom of the barrel atrocious like it was last year. Jerry has only had one or two subpar games all season, Rams and Bengals. Bengals especially he failed on a couple ugly blocks/whiffs on Burfict and Atkins but also had some nice blocks down the stretch to help seal the game. Hart and Flowers have been up and down, Richburg has really struggled, Newhouse has looked really good as a fill in in limited snaps, Pugh has been elite as a pass blocker and pulling guard but has also struggled to get push as a run blocker and missed a bunch of games. Jones has looked good in limited action but hasn't played enough to make an accurate assessment. Given all of that Diehl's statement isn't far fetched at all. The LeCharles Bentley work is ironically paying off a lot more for Jerry than it is for Richburg who's having a really rough season right now.
Diehl obviously has more experience than me, and I respect his opinion, but I don't think Jerry is our best Olineman. If you are talking about "right now", that depends on what you mean by right now.
Right now we have Flowers and Gettis on the left side. Jerry has played better than both of them. I think Richburg and Hart have both played better than Jerry, not by a ton, but better if you look at the whole season. If by right now, he means the last game, then I'd say those 3 were all about equal, and I wouldn't argue against someone who thought Jerry was the best. I think Pugh has been our best lineman by a pretty good margin. If he just means since Pugh went down, I'd still say Hart and Richburg have looked a little better, but I wouldn't argue much with the statement.
If he is saying that Jerry has played better than Pugh this season, I would strongly disagree with that. I would be shocked if that's what he was trying to say.
How different? He said he's been our best OL this year.
He said Richburg still needs to build up leg strength to be able to handle big DTs and NTs.
He implied JJ is playing better than Pugh and everyone else.
Thats probably because Richburg saw my comments about his poor play on Facebook and decided he needed to step it up.
You're welcome.
Well Richburg went there and most think he's regressed this season...

Yeah, same here. Good for him if he's grown up since his Dolphin days.

Pugh is injured and not much better. Maybe our C is best.

Haven't exactly gone against a group of world beaters in the time he's been out. I guess we'll find out more this weekend.
The only thing I can say after reading the OP is that I'm saddened to learn Diehl is hitting the sauce again.
