giants offense

blue1986 : 11/30/2016 8:38 pm
Will the return of Vereen jumpstart the offense and was him being missing the problem? He was having a good season running and catching the ball before getting injured. Your thoughts, please.
Mac is waiting til the Playoffs like a good General

Jints OL
ChicagoMarty : 11/30/2016 8:51 pm : link
struggled early

Jints TEs really struggled early in terms of blocking

Rashad Jennings has slowed down markedly at rb

Jints offense was/is very predictable in terms of formations and play calling

Eli has been somewhat inconsistent at qb

Jints wars other than Beckham struggle getting separation which might explain some of Eli's inconsistency

Vereen's return will help a bit assuming he doesn't put the ball on the ground like he did
Go rewatch the Bengals game.

Giants came out sharp and dictated to the defense and went right down the field.
If that last comment was directed to me
ChicagoMarty : 11/30/2016 9:07 pm : link
I would suggest watching the whole game and not extrapolating based on one possession.

Jints eked out a one point victory over a piss poor team

They had interceptions and punts (at least six) and general ineptitude with the exception of maybe two drives one of which you dwell on

How many injuries have we had since that game?
Is Eli injured
ChicagoMarty : 11/30/2016 9:15 pm : link
How else do you explain his maddening inconsistency as exemplified in the Bengal game you reference.

He throws for three tds but also two interceptions

Every team has injuries

Not every team has the worst or second to worst running game in the league

How many teams line up in the same formation 90% of the time?

I shudder to think what would happen to the Jint offense if Beckham was unable to play

And then spend the next 3 quarters struggling to regain that....

Please do not put injury in the same sentence with OBJ ...
Were toast without him . Again in the Browns game we ran the
I guess its the 11 formation nearly every play of the game.
My guess is Mac is trying to keep the offense simple to
minimize turnovers and keep it simple for the WR's so that
when Eli knows where to go with the ball depending on the
pass rush he is getting .
I really think Mac will start implementing more of the playbook.
I am sure there are a number of plays that he will use but
there involve a bit more risk . I am a bit puzzled as to the number of touches that the TE's and the WR's got ..
I hope like hell they start to challenge the seam a bit more and get enough of a run game going to get the safeties to respect . Seems to me King showed he could
play a bit and is a Vet . We should not have had to punt
the ball 9 times against the worst defense in football .
Playcalling
ChicagoMarty : 11/30/2016 9:52 pm : link
is a head scratcher that I noted above

Why Shepard got no receptions last game is puzzling

Tye had a measly two receptions

The default target in the offense appears to be a long pass to a wr which is really the lowest percentage play in the book.

We need some imagination and creativity in the play calling

We need some short and intermediate zone passes that are easily completed

particularly on third down rather that launching forty and fifty yard heaves on go routes down the field imo
You know that Mac
shelovesnycsports : 11/30/2016 10:16 pm : link
Scrips the first two series of the game. You realize that once the defense adjust to it its over and you have to change to other formations. Bengals were not playing a 2 deep zone like everyone else has us and paid for it in the first two series.
You understand the Offense is built upon what the defense gives you. What set the defense is in and what play will be more successful.
Great plays that destroy a 2 deep zone are
A mobile QB who can run.
A te who can catch on the run.
An Offensive line that can beat a 5-6 man Dline with strength or ability to block in space like Dallas does when they move the whole line east and west.
A fullback who can be the 6th lineman and open holes.
A running back that can catch on the run and can run screen passes.
Now we don't have any of that. That's why other teams run the 2 deep zone. Mac needs more tools to do what he wants and tear up this league. He is doing the best he can and will have a winning season because of it. This team is also learning to win the tight games which is something you need in the playoffs and beyond.
You Understand we run the same formations
Bluesbreaker : 11/30/2016 10:30 pm : link
95% or more it doesn't take a genius to narrow in on what we
can run from said formations .
Its been written about all year long from every aspect of
Football experts . I think you could count on your fingers
offensive plays that we have never seen before . Other than
the occasional end around they look mostly vanilla and tend
to get even more conservative once they have the lead .

That's the grouping that puts the most play-makers on the field. Also they are challenging you to run and beat 6 or 7 defenders.
They should be getting 5+ a click out of that formation with the LB safety dropping deep.
Problem is Jerry and Hart get no push. On the other side Richburg and Whoever is at LG get no push.
If you go under center you can't get off the quick accurate throws you need without the line getting killed something the Mac has disguised very well this year is how bad the line play has been.
What Playmakers ?
Bluesbreaker : 12/1/2016 1:05 am : link
OBJ and Who ?
So your saying we did a lousy job putting an offensive line
together that does not utilize the strengths of the someday
HOF QB because we can't run the ball ...
Eli for all his greatness is not the best short game passer
never has been great at screens touch passes to RB's . At some
point in time we need to be more creative in getting OBJ
the ball more as we did this week . All I am saying is were
not hard to game plan for . Cleveland the worst Defense in
football and we had to Punt 9 times ..
I would bet dollars to donuts
shelovesnycsports : 12/1/2016 1:47 am : link
that OT was the draft pick until Tenn blew it up for us. Then we blew up Miami and took Apple.

This is not the line they had in mind.

more like

Flower Pugh Richburg Hart Conklin was the plan.
Jerry Newhouse Jones as Back ups.

Regardless this is who they have so we have to find a way to victory with them.

That's why you see a lot of 11 formation or as you call it shotgun with 3 WRs. Eli calls the hand off because in most cases there are 6 guys to beat so our 5 and te should be enough to power for 5 plus yards. instead we get 1-2 because our guys can't win a one on one.

Call me crazy

But I think Cruz and Sheppard should switch spots

Yes Cruz over the years has made some plays on the outside

But he's a beast in the slot.

And I think it's time we put him where he belongs.

That doesn't really match what we know, at least with regard to the RG position. Jerry started there from Day 1, even when Hart was available (before he replaced Newhouse).
Maddening thread

Started out as a little discussion about Vereen before Marty hijacked it to discuss offensive ineptitude.

I don't mind either topic except that we have had daily discussions of both.
I don t understand why people get defensive

When some Giants fans make an objective observation about the offense

It s not good and it remains to be seen if the offensive production will be good enough in these last 5 games to make the playoffs. If they miss the playoff it will be considered a total collapse.

Truth is, at least for me I have no idea what the Giants will do to close out this season. 0-5 wouldn t shock me, 5-0 would. We ll see.

The offense is average
djstat : 12/1/2016 10:53 am : link
People think because were not scoring 38 points a game its a bad offense. There are issues. Eli is not hurt. He doesn't trust the line. The offense is getting better and making plays. We have three slot receivers. no real outside wr.
Yea,
Glover : 12/1/2016 11:21 am : link
I liked McAdoo becoming the HC to keep the consistency on offense, but now the offense doesnt look so great. Beckham is great, he is the type who can turn a 7 yard completion into a 70 yard TD, but who else is there who can do that for this offense? This offense needs a Marshall Faulk, and Vereen is not that guy. Sheppard could be what Cruz used to be, I hope so. Improvements on O line, only so many more years of Eli. Gotta make something happen next year. This year will be playoffs, but I dont see how they make a sustained run.
Hey Ivan

Review the OP

Giants Offense

Is Vereen the key to jump start the offense?

The Giant offense has multiple problems that Vereen cannot begin to address

I think the discussion is right on

Where do you see any hijack?
