Luxury tax expected to rise progressively, to $195 this year and ultimately ending at $210. NO change to rosters, no 26th man.
Harder caps on IFAs seem likely...

$5-6 mil a year either firm or with stiffer penalties.

Rather, no first round forfeiture. Likely a lesser pick.
Good for baseball

a work stoppage would have been devastating to the game.
A lot of moving parts...
Dunedin81 : 11/30/2016 9:18 pm : link
Later pick forfeiture but apparently only for teams over the threshold. Hard cap for IFA, likely similar to the draft pools. Luxury tax has a second tier for teams that go way over, and it'll be 90%.

Pick compensation will be 2nd & 5th...

If you're over the luxury tax, 3rd if you aren't.

And will go into effect NEXT year.

Why's that? The Mets aren't likely to be over the lux tax threshold so they'd only give up a 3rd for anyone FA that they sign.

rules were changed to benefit players. It's probably something the players wanted to change for some time.

Are we sure about that? Only thing confirmed is what teams will give up to sign a QO guy.
Comp picks should still be a one...
Dunedin81 : 12/1/2016 12:56 am : link
Only the forfeited pick has been changed. What if anything a second signing does is anyone's guess.
A number of additional features...
Dunedin81 : 12/1/2016 8:23 am : link
All Star game no longer determines WS homefield.

The comp pick issue might actually mean that the losing team gets the forfeited picks, or picks in that round range, rather than picks at the end of Round 1.
Also, minimum DL stint is now 10 days, not 15...
Dunedin81 : 12/1/2016 8:29 am : link
which is actually a significant change.
Some good progress
MetsAreBack : 12/1/2016 9:12 am : link
but i would have liked to have seen both sides agree to more (weeknights) days off and fewer overall games (to 144). Do we really need our teams playing every monday and tuesday nights? Sans PEDs, players have shown they can't handle this workload.

Also would have liked to have seen shorter gameday rosters but with an inactives like the NFL and NHL have it - say 20 man teams on gameday with 5-6 inactives (usually the 4 other starting pitchers + another player or two)

But as always money talks i guess.

The ASG change is a long needed one.
WS home field advantage

So does that mean it goes back to the way it was, with the leagues alternating? Or best record?

luxury tax paying teams forfeit $1 mil of IFA pool money when they sign a qualified free agent.

I was getting pretty tired of every US sports league going on lockout to squeeze a few sheckels from the players.

{quote]Teams that lose a free agent who rejects a qualifying offer will still get a draft pick. The details: For most teams, that pick would be a sandwich pick immediately following the competitive-balance picks that are awarded after the second round. However, if that team comes from the 15 smallest markets and is receiving revenue-sharing money, and it loses a free agent who signs a contract worth at least $50 million, that pick would follow the first round. And if the team losing that player is over the luxury-tax threshold, the pick would follow the fourth round.[/quote]
