NFT: Yanks talk 12-1

superspynyg : 12/1/2016 8:55 am
Are the Yanks able to sign IFA's? Or do they have 1 year left on the ban?

I hope we go with the young team. Its time to see what some of the other young kids got. I still want to add a FA SP (I would love Hammels). I don't mind over paying for a top closer like Chapman (young and dominating). a 4 year 75 mil deal would be ok with me.

Just saw that Beltran signed a 1 year deal with the Astros...

Bummer, I thought he would be a good fit for some lefty pop at the DH slot.

Lindgren will probably be resigned to a minor league deal

The Yanks need 40 man roster spots and there is no way Lindgren will be ready to go after missing all last season. The Yanks need to protect players that will get snapped up in the Rule 5 draft.

Pretty surprised by that. Makes me think the Yankees are really in on Encarnacion. I don't think if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
I don't know

if that's a good thing or a bad thing, that should say. Haha. Depends on how many years he gets from whoever signs him.
I hope they don't break the bank

on a multi-year contract for an aging Encarnacion, Bautista, or the like.

I would rather they sign whatever veteran lefty has some power and is looking for a 1 or 2 year deal at a higher AAV.

I assume that both Bird and Sanchez will cycle through the DH spot during the year to get breaks from the field, anyway.

The time has past

for protecting players from the rule V draft.

Is reporting Hill back to the Dodgers 3/40. Nice to see the rest of baseball cooperating with our youth movement.
Lindgren signed by the Braves

The Braves announce they have signed lefty Jacob Lindgren.

Shoulda dfa'd Hicks instead.
We didn't need to DFA anyone...we were at 40.

Makes me think that the Yanks want to be players in the Rule V draft; otherwise why release Lindgren now?
Did the coaches mess him up or was it just an unfortunate break?

Mid-90's lefty with a wipeout slider sounded pretty good, but then didn't do anything after a couple of rough outings with the bigs.
I guess you have to assume they were OK with this possibility

It's a shame, though. Remembering the talk at the time he was drafted sounded like we were getting our closer of the future.
Yanks have plenty of bullpen arms.
shelovesnycsports : 12/4/2016 2:06 pm : link
They need starters. Severino will end up just like Mariano mark my words. His stuff is better out of the pen.
Severino/Betances will the one two punch to close games in the future.

I agree with you and said that during the season. At worst he is a end of game if not closer BP pitcher.
