NFT: Nevis and St. Kitts

anyone ever been?

Am thinking of taking family there on vacation. Not a huge fan of the large commercial islands in Caribbean. This appears to be a smaller quite island with great beaches, etc.

Any opinions are greatly appreciated....thanks in advance.
I think Nevis is basically the Four Season

the whole island revolves around that resort, and it's one of the best in this hemisphere. Just a beautiful area. Wanted to go for honeymoon but it was after a hurricane had completely wiped it out.
We went on our honeymoon

Stayed at the 4 Seasons in Nevis. The cast of the Sopranos and Sex in the City were there for a big HBO shindig and it was during the fateful Giants loss to the Ravens in the SB game (2001).

It's a beautiful island. Not a ton of things to do. The beaches are ok. Not much as far as waves go, but I think they are better on the other side (windward/east), tho I recall not being too sandy.

It's very low key, but much less touristy than a lot of the caribbean islands.

The diving is very good I believe. I'm more of a deep sea fishing person (had a pretty good day with the biggest wahoo I have ever caught and lots of smaller stuff).

We actually ended up doing some type of thing at the 4 seasons for the week that included meals, so we only got out for a few restaurants.

There was one or two highly recommended places we went for lunch. It was so long ago I can't recall and I just googled a list and nothing made any hits with what is left of my brain.

There seem to be a fair amount of great choices for such a small island though. I'm sure if you do your research, you'll be in great shape.

If you are looking for a laid back

St. Kitts is one of my favorite islands. Not overrun with tourists like some of the others. And it is easy to stay away from the ones that are there. Just stay away from the one major resort (a Marriott) and the main town of Basseterre when cruise ships are there (think only a couple days a week, unlike some more commercial islands which are every day).

Southern part of the island is dry and has excellent beaches, many with a nice rustic caribbean bar/restaurant on the beach. Northern part of the island is wetter with nice rainforest, a cool fort (Brimstone), and a few great old plantations that have been converted to great restaurants that offer awesome brunches, etc. (Ottley's, Rawlin's, and Golden Lemon). They also have rooms if you wanted to stay there too. I rented a great house there for just my wife and I, nice pool overlooking the water. And central location, so easy to get to everything.
St Kitts was probably our least favorite

On a five island cruise. Brimstone Hill is an interesting stop. But the best beach according to the locals was pretty unimpressive compared to everything else we saw in the Caribbean. Maybe staying there is different.
Andy, don't listen to a cruise tripper...

When it comes to travelling anywhere. They get released with thousands of other people (most of which are not experienced travelers) and get taken to the most touristy places somewhere. They get very little of a true experience with everywhere they go.

Ha, we've been all over the world, including other Caribbean islands on stand alone trips. We avoided all the cruise excursions and planned our own itinerary on each of the islands. I'm sorry I don't share your enthusiasm for St Kitts. You can do better.
