Giants control their destiny for No. 1 seed if Dallas loses

federer70 : 12/1/2016 4:21 pm
is this too early to think about? :-) (and didn't see any other threads on this issue). guess I figure if ODB can talk SB after the Cincy game, then we can talk No. 1 seed. just get it done after hopefully minny takes care of business tnite :-). it's going to be 23 degrees in minny tnite - not sure what that means for a climate controlled stadium, but assume it's not going to be warm and toasty in there else what's the point of playing in minny :-). would assume our team has to be pretty jacked up if we go into sunday controlling our destiny :-)
awasom thread :-)

you really put a great effort into it :-)
Dallas loses tonight...

...then they lose to the Giants Sunday, THEN a Cowboy QB controversy begins that derails them.

I can dream. :)
Dallas isn't losing tonight..

Bradford and diggs are banged up, so after tonight, they'll be a little more separation between us and Minnesota for the time being.
I think Dallas
GmeninPSL : 12/1/2016 4:34 pm : link
does lose tonight! I fully expect a big game from the Vikings defense and the offense to just do enough to win!
So does that mean they don't control their own destiny?

- not sure what that means for a climate controlled stadium

Climate controlled means same temp inside regardless of outside temp. Why is this remotely relevant?

Minnesota DC Zimmer's absence is much more of a factor.

NYG

If NYG wins out...life will be pretty.
Giants will do well to go 3-2
AnnapolisMike : 12/1/2016 5:09 pm : link
They are not winning the division. It's more likely the Giants miss the playoffs entirely than win the division.
I REALLY BELIEVE....
Blue Angel : 12/1/2016 5:10 pm : link
It would help the Giants MORE if Dallas wins tonight...first it will be harder for Minnesota to catch us and they do have the tie breaker over us and if Dallas loses then we win our next two games I could see the Giants getting over confident and getting smoked by Detriot and us losing to Dallas in the playoffs...it is very hard to beat a team three times in a season.

Maybe, maybe not? But I doubt when they were 2-4 you thought they would win their next six in a row either so who knows?

I still think the division is possible.

LOL, not sure why I did that.
We don't need Dallas to lose tonight

just a few broken bones and torn ligaments will do fine...
Fans expectations

Are so different. You are talking about 1 seed, I m thinking the Giants team I ve watched will be pressed to win 2 of final 5.

Hope you re right.
This scenario where the Giants control their own destiny
j_rud : 12/1/2016 6:11 pm : link
more or less requires that they win out when their toughest stretch of games is on the table. Even if Dallas loses to Minny and the Giants I just don't see it.
Tell the Giants ...
BronxBob : 12/1/2016 6:33 pm : link
... they "control their destiny" for something and panic usually ensues. They would usually rather be scrambling to make it. And for the life of me, I don't know why psych factors like that run across different generations of players, coaches and front office.

Minnesota isn't very good right now
81_Great_Dane : 12/1/2016 7:08 pm : link
but they're a tough matchup for Dallas because their defense looks like a potential match for the Cowboys' rushing attack.

Dallas' defense isn't great but the Vikes' offense is pretty bad these days. I think the Vikings can win if their D gets turnovers, maybe scores.
I fully expect the Cowboys to win

I mean it's, you know, destiny.

Well the flip side is that you are just assuming Dallas will automatically win fifteen in a row.

Anything can happen at this point and the Giants do have a chance. They are essentially one game out have having won in Dallas and the Cowboys still have a rookie QB who has never faced the pressure of an NFL playoff race.

Will be an interesting December.
I'd imagine
jpennyva : 12/1/2016 8:32 pm : link
That all of the Giants coaches and players are well aware of what the different scenarios mean for them. I don't think a Dallas win or loss tonight will change the Giants' preparation for the Steelers on Sunday. They'll take each game one at a time because looking too far ahead just makes you lose focus on the immediate task in front of you, which is winning the next game. The goal needs to be getting into the playoffs, regardless of seed. Winning the division would be gravy, IMV.
Don't get me wrong, I want the Giants to win the Division
Jimmy Googs : 12/1/2016 8:45 pm : link
but there was absolutely something behind the whole underdog theory when they faced the previously undefeated Patriots and the 15-1 Packers.

If the Cowboys win out, so be it. Just hope we can face them in playoffs if that is the case...
The Cowboys are losing

their next 3 games, starting tonight.
Thinking about the division title right now
eclipz928 : 12/1/2016 8:48 pm : link
is a set up for disappointment. It's still within reach, but I don't think it's realistic to think the Giants will go the necessary 4-1 or 5-0 to finish the season and overtake Dallas.
So I guess, even winning 11in a row, the Giants wouldn't control their
Doomster : 12/1/2016 11:45 pm : link
own destiny....
What is disturbing is,
Doomster : 12/1/2016 11:48 pm : link
good teams find ways to win.....Dallas did not play their best and won....

There is only one problem....the winning streak.....if they go into the playoffs winning 15 in a row.....the Patriots felt the pressure in 2007, because of it.....the same can happen to Dallas....can you imagine winning 15 in a row, and then be one and done in the playoffs?
They're a pretty good team.
Dave in Hoboken : 12/1/2016 11:50 pm : link
Time to accept it. Doesn't mean the Giants can't beat them in 2 weeks, though. Hell, they already have. Just win this Sunday first.
