Dak Prescott's throwing selection

Daniel in Kentucky : 12/2/2016 9:37 am
Does anyone have access to a completion/incompletion throw map of where Dak's throws have been delivered.

I re-watched the Giant game and last night's game and Dak seems to throw a lot of throws under 15 yards. I would guess over 90%.

Anyone have a visual of where he has thrown the ball this year.

Thanks.
Yeah, a heat map would be nice...
Dan in the Springs : 12/2/2016 9:40 am : link
I've watched all the Dallas games, and at first the thought was that his weakness might be the deep ball, because of all the short attempts. However he has made plenty of nice completions deep as well (like the one to Dez yesterday).

He's physical, fast, accurate, and pretty smart for a rookie. And I hate to admit it.

Having said that, we don't know how he's going to handle adversity. I'm hoping we see that on the 11th.
No, but you can bet
Big Blue '56 : 12/2/2016 9:40 am : link
the Giants certainly do..😎
He doesn't take a lot of chances at all.
Keith : 12/2/2016 9:41 am : link
He doesn't make mistakes, but mostly because he's only throwing really high % throws. Makes sense being that he's a rookie and they have a real good running game, but they will be beatable in the playoffs because they aren't explosive in the passing game.
It definitely helps
Johnny5 : 12/2/2016 9:41 am : link
... when you routinely have 5 minutes to go through your progressions and then throw a pass.

He is good though for sure.
He reminds me a lot of Russell Wilson...
BamaBlue : 12/2/2016 9:50 am : link
I think he's that kind of a QB. Smart, makes good decisions and will elevate his game when necessary. The Cowboys hit a homerun with this kid... ugh.
Russell Wilson will throw the ball deep pleny.
Keith : 12/2/2016 9:51 am : link
He reminds me of a smart Donovan McNabb. His body style, how he runs is identical. McNabb wishes he was as smart, cool, calm and collected as Prescott though.

What a steal

as a 4th round pick. For a rookie with his composure
and performance is unbelievable. Where the hell was
Reese and his scouting staff?

It's always a crapshoot.......where we're the other 30 teams you could ask, as well. There's a reason he dropped to the 4th round and Dallas thought enough of him to take him there. I give them credit, as much as it pains me to say it, however, we'll see what happens with him. Remember RGIII also looked like the real deal his rookie year and got Washington into the playoffs too. How'd that turn out?

For comparison the giants have 47 attempts over 20 yards (with one fewer game)

I would disguise coverages and blitz a ton. From many different spots. Even if we get burned a few times I would still bring the heat every chance I got.

he didn't look that great week 1 when we took away his run game. 20-19 Giants, at their place.

People like to talk about how it was their 1st game. Our whole team was new, too. We are much improved. Haven't been looking forward to a Cowboys game this much since the '11 Season finale. Have a similar feeling we will smack them again.
It's a very simple formula.
Keith : 12/2/2016 11:35 am : link
Dallas isn't going to be explosive in the passing game. You let him dink and dunk all day and outscore them. You take the running game away as much as possible and you give deep help. This team isn't winning the SB unless they get very lucky. I just don't see them winning the playoff games without being able to pass deep.
Beasley and Williams
old man : 12/2/2016 12:58 pm : link
are quick to their open zones and Zak gets great passing lanes from that OL, then has JW and Dez to look for as a fall back(if they arent the target).
Like any QB, you have to get into his head early. Zaks OL, and his feet have helped keep him upright, but put him on the ground a few times and he plays a little scared on passes(aka what we see from Eli due to, well, you know).
If spags can get 11 to play like 12 or 13, or not leave the middle open on a 3rd and long blitz package while using 2nd strings DL more to relieve starters effectively, Giants will win that game.
He played really well last night
Go Terps : 12/2/2016 1:01 pm : link
He made a couple back breaking runs that either changed field position or helped put them in position to ice the game.

Good rookie QB
montanagiant : 12/2/2016 1:05 pm : link
But it has to be taken into account that Beasley's YAC greatly helps Dak's stats

Prescott played an absolutely average game, including a bonehead decision to slide before the marker that was tantamount to a runner deciding to step out of bounds before the first down to avoid being hit.

If not for an absolute choke job by Vikings special teams, that would have been a 10-point effort at max, and likely a loss.

He's an efficient, young, poised QB. I think he's going to be a good not great NFL player.

Said this after game one and have not seen evidence otherwise - he cannot get the ball across the field with zip and accuracy.

Maybe it's mechanics or a physical limitation.

He's got to prove he can get the ball to the outside or everyone's going clamp down on the middle of the field like the Vikings did.
The decision was smart,
Keith : 12/2/2016 1:40 pm : link
but he should have dove head first. He's a heady player for sure.

Running for the first down was obviously the right decision, dropping on his ass before he got to the marker was idiotic.
I expect us to stay disciplined up front, so sack #'s likely won't be
David in LA : 12/2/2016 2:17 pm : link
there when we play them. Shut down Zeke, stick JJ on Dez, and have Collins tee off on Witten, and Beasley.
How many QBs now
Gman11 : 12/2/2016 2:59 pm : link
throw a lot of long balls? How do you think the average completion percentage is about 65%? Just about all the QBs throw mainly short passes with occasional long ones. The days of the Mad Bomber are long gone.
Taking nothing away from DP
David B. : 12/2/2016 4:42 pm : link
He wouldn't look as good as he has a rookie if he were playing behind the Giants OL this year. And FWIW, neither would Elliott.
Was not Prescott's best game
joe48 : 12/2/2016 5:12 pm : link
He had the fumble. Only had the pass to Dez for 56 yards. His ability to pick up big chunks of yardage running is a big asset. Has great poise. Playing behind that OL is a QB'sw dream. I wish he was on our team. He should develop into a fine QB for the next 15years.
Lol don't open that can of worms

Same could be said for Brady ...
they took Randy Gregory in the 2nd round hows that working out.
Anyway Nick Foles looked like the 2nd coming Johnny U so I
can't even stand Zak's face either I still think he is
playing a bit over his head but then again the Cowboys set
the Offense up well for the next 6 years they probably
trade Romo to Cleveland for half there draft and make
there Defense top 10 J/k
11-1 and he's being criticized for not throwing it deep more often??
Jimmy Googs : 12/3/2016 1:23 am : link
Clearly they don't want him to otherwise he would. It's not like Dak doesn't have the time. Sure his accuracy will get worse but they don't need him to do it.

We should be happy he won't throw deep on our FS.
