and I too worry about Gould. Heinz is notoriously tough to get footing, and it will be dark.
They can win, but will need to be perfect. No penalties, no turnovers, protect Eli. And they need to be + performers on STs. I would love to see Beckham returning punts on that slick field.
They've been stomped on this season. Miami just walked all over them. And Heyward is out making the Steeler front even worse. Shazier is great in space. His speed allows him to make a lot of splash plays but he's really light in the ass.
If Giants had a strong running game we could dominate this defense. But we don't so they had to win with Defense and Beckham. Steeelrs offense is a tough matchup for most with Bell, Brown and TE Green but we have the players on defense to handle it.
Ben is going to get hit s lot. Jenkins can match up with Brown. If Giants can score 20 we win. My prediction: Giants 23 Steelers:17
Nice review. Agree with just about everything you wrote.
I would note however that Jenkins mentioned in an interview this week that he has not practiced against Beckham since pre season. He does NOT in fact practice against Beckham every day.

Wow... I didn't know that. I figured based on the side Jenkins lined up and how they practiced at camp, that would have continued. To be honest, that doesn't make sense to me. I'm not sure I buy that.
and to have uncertainty at kicker sucks. I certainly think the Giants can pull this one out. I am not saying I expect a win, but I do expect the team to play well and have a good shot at a W.
Amazingly, it is the defense that give me the confidence. What a turn around from last season. This D is getting better and it is standing up and answering the bell when needed. Now, I do know the Steelers are step up in offense from the past few weeks, but I think the D will play well and make some plays.
Very excited for this Sunday, I wish the Cowboys would have lost last night.
I think some here are buying into what the media is selling on the Giants. I think the Giants will be fired up for this game, being 6 1/2 point dogs, and will battle the Steelers to the end. I will be surprised if the game isn't close in the 4th quarter.
I don't get why everyone on BBI is afraid of the Steelers... maybe I'm way off on this one.
I agree Eric. I said this on another thread. Teams have had trouble running against us and we should we should be able to pass on them. If our defense controls Bell I think we win.
As long as it doesn't rain, I think the Giants can win a tough, gritty game. My hope is that special teams and stupid penalties, especially stupid penalties on special teams plays (block in the back, anyone?) won't be their downfall.
Given where the Gisnts are in the standings and in the season, I think the stage is set for Eli to lay his annual egg. Eli has to expect early pressure hidden coverages late.
Then we are both going to eat crow Mon. Pitt is a 6-5 team. We are on the road that's the tough part. They need to play better than they did against Min and GB earlier this season
as they match up well.
Giants run D vs Bell: Keep Bell "contained"
Jenkins vs Brown: 50/50 I will take that anytime against Brown
D ends vs Big Ben: JPP and Vernon coming alive, think Ben is running for his life!
Eli/Beckham vs Pitt pass D: Think Jints have the edge here
My main concerns is ST, kicking/return coverage and turning the ball over. If we go back to giving TO and we surrender a return score I think they lose.
Giants D knocks Ben out of the game. Not sure if we win but I see that happening.
Steelers home-road splits on offense are pretty substantial. Should be a good test for the defense. Offensively, the Giants should be able to score points. Steelers defense is trash.
Because the Giants have not won many games of this stature in a while. In fact they haven't been in many. Closest thing this year were the Green Bay and Viking games. Most pundits felt the Giants would have difficulty, and they were right

29 ppg at home this season. D will have to hold them to a lot less than that to have any shot. all we can do on offense is hope they don't start as slow as the did vs. the browns.
the Giants can win this one - I think they match up well here -- it's going to be a tough close game and that kind of game seems to favor the Giants this year
I don't get why everyone on BBI is afraid of the Steelers... maybe I'm way off on this one.
The Steelers aren't a powerhouse. They are 6-6, lost their last two home games, and their last two wins were against Cleveland the and the Luck-less Colts. Giants can win this game.
I agree with Paul Schwartz that the Giants should remember that the
strength of their offense is the downfield passing game and Eli should chuck it downfield more often. With the Giants the weakest team in the league running the ball, and the Steelers' run defense ranked high, I hope I don't see the offense running the ball up the middle for two yards on nearly every first down play.
You hear it all the time that the offense must continue running the ball even if they are having no success to "keep the defense honest." I can see this if the other teams' defense is running loose in the Giants' backfield and hitting Manning. But Eli's protection has been better than expected. Does everyone tell the Patriots that they have to keep running the ball the keep the defense honest.
By throwing the ball deep you not only play to the strength of Eli and the offense by picking up large yardage in one play, but Beckham will draw a flag every game. And the combination of Beckham, Cruz and Shepard will often draw another flag.
Please don't tell me that they're going to be running the ball up the middle for two yards on nearly every first as well as on many other downs.
skeptical we can win since it's an away game, and we run the ball so poorly. Pittsburgh can protect its secondary by doing what everybody else has done, playing its safeties back. Running the ball and having a TE who can threaten the seam would get them out of that defense, but we can't do the former, and don't have the latter. I would at least use Perkins more, and throw more on first down. Use short passes as a run game.
phone with a friend of mine who is a diehard steelers fans and has seen all the steeler games. He's not confident and thinks Beckham will have a monster game.
Well, I take confort in BBI exuberance about this game.
The Giants should be motivated by the spread and the usual
Bspn and other pundits show no respect ..
I took the Steelers this week mostly because they are
desperate at home and the Giants might be looking ahead
no matter what anyone says . On the other hand we might even
dominate them ....
But when you play them. Giants aren't going to luck out and catch the Steelers in a stinker like Philly. They're going on the road facing a charged up Steelers team who's had an extra half a week to rest up and prepare. This does not play out well for us. No way the Giants win this one playing like they have the last couple weeks. Their offense needs to pick it up and at this point I'm starting to doubt if that is going to happen this season. They are what they are, most likely this week it's not enough.
more Perkins to start the game and less Jennings.......we need to start off this game strong and not get behind. Feed the ball to OBJ all game and let him do what he does.....he'll be feeling competitive moreso in this game with AB on the other sideline, as well. Lastly, this is a game where S Shepard should be able to take advantage of some things. Hopefully the Giants won't have to rely on Gould's leg to win this, but this would be a nice game for him to get redemption however.

I may be eating crow on Monday, but we'll see.

And yet, I bet it will.
3 missed PATs in 2 games. Is there really no one better out there?
Once again, good job and thanks, Eric.

Giants win 23 - 13
And really - he's a big part of the equation. 3 and out's aren't the end of the world when you've got a big leg on 4th.
Just don't turn it over, D hold them under 20, should come out with our first 9 win season since 1925.
At least it feels that way. :)
I agree Eric. I said this on another thread. Teams have had trouble running against us and we should we should be able to pass on them. If our defense controls Bell I think we win.
Sounds like the DBs are licking their chops ready to face Big Ben. Time to eat. I think Jackrabbit scores this week.

This post here gives me more confidence that the Giants will win. Listen to what this guy says, and then pick the opposite to happen.

Yep. He also predicts Philly will win out.

The boss is just a patient troll. He's playing the long game but all he does is disparage the Giants in a mostly delicate manner.
