Who does Plax want throwing him the ball Eli or Big Ben?

GloryDayz : 12/2/2016 8:18 pm
He picked.......... Eli.

I found that surprising. I never really thought that he and Eli got along much (personalities wise... so different), and thought he may go with Ben based more on a personal level.

He also picked the Giants to beat Pitt, and thinks they can beat Dallas & go on a run.

Funny how plax and shockey

Go out of their way to wax nostalgia about Eli.

Not sure I'd lump them together in that regard - Plax was certainly selfish, but he didn't have any animosity toward Eli, that was reserved to Tiki and Shockey.
Eli Manning is a very good QB and teammate.

Plax could have bailed in the 2008 post season but didn't.

I didn't think he would be the gamer he turned out to be.

I never blamed him for making a stupid mistake. Unfortunate that it happened in NYC.

I will never forget his monster game in the NFC Championship game against GB in 2007 playing on a badly injured ankle.

You're right I was going to amend my post. Plax threw his arms up a few times but wasn't nearly as animated or abusive as shockey was.

Best years were as a Giant and he won a title with us. I'd be surprised if he didn't choose Eli.

Didn't Plax name is kid after Eli?
Kulish29 : 12/2/2016 8:35 pm : link
Everything I remember about his time w/ the Giants was only positive when it came to his and Eli's relationship.
Plax is still connected to the Giants

Last year I went to a game, and Plax was there and he was on the field.

I was really surprised.

By his game-deciding catch in the Super Bowl that brought down the undefeated Pats. Why wouldn't he pick Eli.
I don't remember any angst between Plax and Eli
mfsd : 12/2/2016 9:32 pm : link
Sure, they were very different personality wise, but I think both knew they needed each other to be successful

I remember Toomer grousing about the decision to give up on Collins and draft Eli, at the time he thought going with a rookie would hurt his chances of winning a SB. Eli sure proved that wrong
Plax.
Rick5 : 12/2/2016 9:34 pm : link
He is definitely one of my favorite Giants' WRs ever. I never shared the hatred towards him that a lot of other fans seem to have. The good always far outweighed the bad to me.
Why are you guys dicussing a couple of Head Cases?

Both very talented football players who turned out to be less than assets to the NY Giants.

Strongly disagree (unless SB wins are irrelevant). Without Burress in GB, there almost definitely was no SB win in '08.

You're joking, right?
Couple years back (the week of the NBA ASG) I was at Chelsea Piers
LI NHB : 12/2/2016 9:49 pm : link
to bowl with a group of buddies. There was a long wait for lanes, so we used that time to get in a round of laser tag, because obviously.

Plax was in town for the ASG, along with a bunch of other people who were in the private section for an All-Star event. He ended up taking his son into our laser tag game.

I will never forget how amazing the irony felt...to be running around like a child, actively shooting guns with Plax on the island of Manhattan.

He was on the opposite team and we won. Ipso facto, I am a super bowl champion caliber athlete. Good day.

how close we came to Plax *not* becoming a Giant? the '05 offseason is when I first found BBI and it happened to end up as one of the most influential offseasons in team history (Plax, Pierce, McKenzie)

i came here for updates several times a day. i remember we had brought Plax in, but then he left with no deal and I was bummed because i thought that was that. but if memory serves, Plax then changed agents, came back, and we signed him. the rest is history.

i don't recall whether there were any other big name FA WR's, but i remember thinking Plax would be an excellent fit. on the other hand, I think both Pierce and Kendrell Bell were the "big name" FA MLBs.

At around 56:15 of this video, Ernie Accorsi has a good story about the courting of Plax.

Accorsi interview

Plax made some noise when he got out of prison about Eli never reaching out to him, but I think they always had a healthy respect for each other. Eli would always praise Plax's preparation and football smarts.

Couldn't have said it better. Plax was selfish in his own right - but never got the impression he threw eli under the bus. Shockey - absolutely.

Also worth mentioning...
ChaChing : 12/2/2016 10:46 pm : link
Eli to Plax was 2nd only to Brady to Moss in TDs over a decent stretch of like 3-4 seasons. Dont remember the exact time frame or # tho

Also did he win a ring in PIT? If not, again, it's kind of obvious / almost default he'd say Eli

wow, nice find! glad to see my memory is still semi-sharp at least in some areas :)
i met shockey in a bar in miami years back
Tuckrule : 12/2/2016 11:24 pm : link
i asked him about eli. He was kind of tipsy and told me he loves the dude. Huge heart good guy, the best teammate. Then i asked him about barber he looked at me, laughed, and said whatever i told you about eli just think the opposite.

Did he not have some issues when he got released or the Giants
just sign him . I mean the dude changed the dynamics of

That's a great story and I believe it.

There is a great George Young and Gil Brandt story at the 106: 01 section about drafting LT.

Great listen, thanks DieHard! I'll never forget that free agency period, I remember listening to updates on WFAN every night. "Plax is in the building right now!" "Plax is on his way to Minnesota" Craziness
Still Mad at Plax
Samiam : 12/3/2016 10:59 am : link
I appreciate all he did before he shot himself. And it was way more than the SB TD. I remember he destroyed a good GB CB in a playoff game . Plus Plax worked hard as a WR on the field and played hurt and studied big time off the field . But in 2008, the Giants looked like they were the best team in the game by a wide margin. I remember thinking we could win a few SBs, they were that good . Bringing the gun into the nightclub changed the karma of this team for years and I'm still pissed

This is my attitude also. As the years have passed I've softened and now remember Plax for his great play here but for a good 3-4 years after 2008 I really looked down on the guy.

When I tell my kids one day about Plax I am sure I will only tell them the good with a quick passing mention of the bad.

I never hated Plax... but him shooting himself was one hard pill to swallow. The 2008 season looked so special, and I think he stole at least 1 more SB run from the Giants.
