Samaje Perine, RB, Oklahoma

George Adams : 12/3/2016 4:03 pm
Watching the Oaklahoma, Oklahoma St game, couldn't help to think how Samaje Perine would be a nice addition to the Giants backfield assuming he comes out as a junior in 2017. Jennings is playing well, but is 31 yrs old. Perine is a big, tough running back who would be a nice compliment to Perkins and Vereen. Below is a write-up from Walter Football who currently have him ranked as the 10th running back (link below).

Samaje Perine*, RB, Oklahoma

Height: 5-11. Weight: 237.
Projected 40 Time: 4.58.
Projected Round (2017): 2-4.
12/3/16: Perine has averaged 5.2 yards per carry in 2016 for 735 yards with 10 touchdowns. He has 10 receptions for 106 yards, too. Perine is a physical, tough runner who has been banged up this season and also split the workload with Joe Mixon.

9/3/16: Perine averaged 6.0 yards per carry in 2015 for 1,349 yards with 16 touchdowns. As a receiver, he had 15 catches for 107 yards with a score. Perine was a freshman sensation in 2014, racking up 1,713 yards and 21 touchdowns. That worked out to an average of 6.5 yards per carry. Perine set the NCAA single-game rushing record with 427 yards against Kansas that season. He also had five touchdowns in that contest. Perine is a hard-nosed physical running back.

I like Perine

But if we are gonna go after an Oklahoma RB we need to go after Joe Mixon. His game translates much better IMO.
I'd take Perine

Also like the WR Dede Westbrook, who took a big hit today.
We will see how he times

He looked slow to me today.

I like Perkins a lot. Id rather not draft an RB this year.
If the Giants

select him, lets pray Reese doesnt take him the third round.
Big OU fan and have seen Perine play in person

And he's a horse. Either he or Mixon would be great additions but I don't see a RB as that a high priority for the Giants. Now, Westbrook, who is projected to run sub 4.4 would be nice, even at 5' 11".
Agree with you XBRONX

but if hes was sitting there in Round 4 or 5, I think it would be a great pick. Would help the Giants in short yardage and to control the clock late in the game, two areas the Giants need vast improvement.
Giants blow every 4th round pick. They need to trade down.

Get a fifth and sixth.
I really don't want a RB either
Big Rick in FL : 12/3/2016 8:29 pm : link
I have no problem going with Perkins as the #1 with Vereen as the 3rd down back and Darkwa/Rainey as the 3rd & 4th RBs.

We need to address TE, OL, DL & LB.

Too slow. Oft injured.

Mixon much better. Westbrook is thr must have.
The guy you want is Cook from FSU

Don't know if he will last to our first round pick but if he did Reese should think long and hard that one.
Perine

Is the guy who would do well behind a dominant power blocking offensive line where he can power through holes and punish guys at the second level. With all the injuries he's racked up in college to this point, he's no longer fast enough or elusive enough to thrive behind a so so run blocking unit like the Giants. He'll look like a slightly bigger Andre Williams crashing into a wall for one or two yards.
Mixon
MookGiants : 12/3/2016 10:42 pm : link
is a guy that may not be on many teams draft boards after the domestic violence stuff with him
If Perine can block, he might make a good fullback.
Ivan15 : 12/3/2016 10:55 pm : link
A shade small for fullback but a shade slow for running back.
I would hope this offseason

Is all about the OL. I would think the NYG could land a solid RB in the 3rd round, no? OL and TE are bigger need areas. We can't continue to have zero run production and run the WC offense with substandard TE's.

So he'll be a Cowboy or Bengal? It's funny, he's someone who should be mentioned with the top 3 running backs in the draft, but his off the field issues are pretty damaging, even if it was a one time incident.
Perine
