That is some sad shit, but I guess that's all they got.
Some people like to act like they should have won... if it just wasn't for that bad kick/luck. Like it was a chip shot. Forty-Seven yards has never been an easy or automatic. Should have gotten it closer and not put the game on one tough kick. Oh, right, they couldn't.
or anybody who's been in a crucial situation and failed -- for whatever reason. Him, Donnie Moore, Billy Buckner and going further back, Ralph Branca. Incidentally I believe Mookie would've beaten that ball to the base even if Buckner had fielded it properly.

Norwood was 0-6 in his career at 50+ (at the time), his career long was 49 in '88 on turf, his long for the year was 48 on turf and the 47 yard wide right was his longest attempt ever (at the time) on grass.
I don't think people realize how at the edge of his limit things were, then consider the circumstances...
I think people look back and see kickers today making it look easier than it was for him back then.
I heard that when Buffalo wins a Superbowl, they will
invite Norwood and let him take part in the parade, although they better hurry-up, no one is getting any younger.
"when" I like the optimism. Poor Buffalo fans. I was rooting for them hard in all, but 1 of those Superbowls, of course. Damn skins and boys. One of the most painful 4 year runs in sports history.
It was plenty long enough. He just chocked it wide.
The numbers say it was considering his career long was only 2 yards more, his long for that year 1 yard more, and 0-6 beyond those. There is more to the idea of him being at his limit than distance. He did miss after all. One could argue he was over his limit when considering pressure.
Yeah. If they had won.

More sad shit. He was a great player and played great in that game, but it still wasn't enough.
"don't leave it up to the ref" - UFC
"don't leave it up to the kicker, but if you do don't make it 47 freaking yards on grass with the superbowl on the line" - Scotty
Agreed.
